From Human to Skeleton: Revived with Infinite System Crystals
Chapter 970: The Note Opens A Supply World
The worker raised a hooked knife toward the nearest fabric lung, and the woman in the tank missed her fourth pump stroke.
Her lower support kicked sideways. Glass rang against Kegaku’s severed graft while JJ caught the housing with both forearms. Kieran pressed her boot harder across the flute case. The open square in the funeral car wall narrowed to the width of her hand.
"Cut that lung and you lose the only account still offering payment."
The worker lowered the hook as far as his shoulder. Ivro Dask had been stitched above a repaired tear in his rib bag, which tightened when he answered.
"Your instrument took nine hundred measures after Earth stopped returning pressure."
Wind shoved brown grit across his platform. He leaned into it without wasting a hand on balance. Three workers behind him closed valves over their personal bags, while a fourth dragged a ceramic canister away from a rack with a torn seam.
Kieran had seen armies ration food, water, sleep, and truth. She had never watched a man decide whether one sentence deserved air.
"Show me the purchase and the buyer’s mark."
Ivro turned the slate against the storm. Each old tally had been scratched deep enough to survive wet grit. Beside the supplier punch sat Erebos’s three square buyer mark. Beneath it, one line joined Kegaku to Regaku Sarabi and continued into an Earth delivery column.
Pressure had returned through moved bodies, opened throats, heating pipes, and six command braces until the Earth line ended halfway down. Below the break, another worker’s cramped hand kept adding withdrawals.
Kegaku strained against the bed straps to read. "He promised your cooperative whatever the instrument made breathe for him."
"He promised the pressure would return after every completed field command."
Ivro spent too much air on the answer. His right rib bag flattened, and a younger woman behind him connected a reed hose before his next inhale. Sava was stitched across one of her smaller bags, both repaired at their lower corners.
JJ pushed the tank support back into line with her hip. "Neither patient entered that agreement, so keep their pumps off your slate."
"Our rule follows the instrument into whatever hands keep using it, because abandoned accounts still empty the same family bags."
Kieran lifted the flute case from beneath her boot. The first brace pulled toward the square route, but the gold seal across the second hole held.
"I inherited scars from this instrument, and nobody calls those a purchase."
Ivro looked at the gold crossing Kieran’s wrist. His knife hand eased another inch. Behind him, Sava replaced his empty rib bag and carried the spent one toward a rack marked with three black knots.
The tank woman’s graft scraped Kegaku’s name strip against the glass. Her living hand stayed under the shaking pump support.
"Take the commands stored inside the braces, then sell me a support that holds."
Ivro tapped the debt column twice. "Stored movement returns less pressure than living breath carried through it."
"Then you receive less than the account claims, because no person crosses."
Her pump missed again. This time the jacket twisted far enough to pinch the clear return hose. JJ drove two fingers under it and took the pressure across her knuckles. Blood gathered where the clamp caught her skin.
Erebos moved his bound wrist along Omina’s green bar. The archer’s violet line shortened before his fingers reached the route.
"The cooperative can price a living debtor above every damaged brace you possess."
Omina rolled his wrist into the rail until his shoulder followed. "You may identify the machinery you purchased, while your preferred payment stays aboard."
Kieran opened the case. Three repaired braces held the flute together. Kegaku’s strip lay outside the first one, flat beneath his torn fingernail. Breaking the braces would remove the commands and the only clean path into the supplier account.
Toward a second column, Ivro slid his slate and brought six crossed household marks into view, including the mark worn by Sava as she carried his spent bag.
"Your debt emptied our reserve during the last pressure lull. Six homes lost their night share, and everyone on this rack spent the morning replacing pressure your field work consumed."
Kieran looked past him. A child near the platform shelter pumped a foot lever while an older man stitched a lung across his knees. The child’s eighth press collapsed the same patch again, and he started counting from one with Kieran’s thumb still covering the flute brace.
"Strip every stored command and credit the six homes before your company account."
Ivro checked the others with two fast hand signs. Sava answered by pointing first to the torn communal lung, then to the tank support shaking behind Kieran.
"We credit the homes first if you supply the opening breath yourself."
Kegaku pulled the name strip tight against the bed rail. "The strip remains outside, and every Earth movement inside the braces may go."
Kieran turned the flute until its supplier holes faced the square. Gold spread over the six finger holes in thin caps. The old scar beneath her breastbone tightened as each opening closed. Her right shoulder tried to roll into the angle Regaku had once forced upon it.
She drove that shoulder against the funeral wall and kept it there.
JJ opened the wash exhaust. Warm air moved through the first brace without touching either patient pump. Across the route, workers tied the torn communal lung to a copper intake and cleared the platform beneath it.
"One breath opens the account, and the wash line carries the return."
Ivro set his hook across the slate. "Hold one clean note until all three braces release their pressure."
Kieran put the flute to her mouth. The metal carried old tooth marks near the rim. She found one that belonged to Kegaku, shifted away from it, and set her own grip against the case hinge.
Her first breath stopped in the sealed holes and pushed back into her jaw. The scar pulled her shoulder from the wall. Kieran planted her heel against the floor drain, bent the second brace with her thumb, and forced the air through the supplier punch.
The note cracked twice and dragged along the copper pipe.
Inside the tank, Kegaku’s graft opened its fingers. The flute braces shook. A row of small dents rose through the metal where stored grips had been pressed into it, then ran toward the square route like beads under skin.
Kieran kept blowing while the instrument fought for her shoulder. The movement reached her elbow and tried to turn the flute toward Omina. She caught the tube against the case lid, letting the hinge bruise her palm while her fingers stayed off every command hole.
Across the opening, the damaged communal lung filled. It took shape in ugly sections, one patch lifting before the next. Workers caught its lower ropes and tied them to the rack as the storm pulled.
The first brace split.
A strip of compressed air struck the copper intake and carried a dozen stolen hand positions into the fabric. Shoulder turns and forced breath followed from the second brace, scraping through the scar until Kieran’s air failed with the third still closed.
The tank woman slammed Kegaku’s graft into the wash tap. Its palm teeth turned the valve wider, sending funeral exhaust through the flute while Kieran kept the mouthpiece sealed between her lips.
The last brace gave up a child’s running rhythm, two adult neck turns, and Kieran’s own stolen reach toward Jade.
Kieran drove gold through that final movement, dividing it before it entered the communal lung.
Kieran lowered the flute. Her right arm shook from shoulder to thumb, but it answered her when she closed the case.
Ivro checked the six household marks. Sava removed the black knot beside her own and tied a plain cord through the hole.
"The stored commands clear six homes and leave one hundred twelve measures unpaid."
"Put those measures on the instrument, because its bearers remain separate people."
He scratched a new line while the younger woman rolled a curved support jacket through the square. JJ caught it against her chest, inspected both valves, and passed it into the tank through the service sleeve.
The woman fitted it around her lower pump herself. On the fourth stroke, the jacket held straight. She kept her living hand beneath it through the fifth before letting her wrist rest.
Ivro pressed two ceramic plugs against his slate. "Earth receives one closure plug, while you receive the unpaid route locator."
He dropped the first plug into a side pipe. The old Earth column drew it away hard enough to chip the rim. Ivro ran one finger down the slate as the scratch beside West Return Six stopped deepening and a new line reached its sublevel air return.
The second plug crossed into Kieran’s palm.
It pulled toward the funeral floor. Its other side dragged toward the open supplier square, forcing her wrist between both directions. A narrow shipping band around the middle carried punches for Account Five and the Two Down Exchange.
Ivro seized the far rope as every fabric lung on his platform leaned toward the same unseen road.
"Your unpaid account has already boarded the moving stake."
