Su Li really didn’t know whether to laugh or cry.

Wu Sheng heard this and waved his hand. "Grandma, that’s not going to happen. She’s my wife, and she will be for the rest of our lives. We’re never going to be apart."

The old woman and the other people in the hospital ward ground their teeth as they watched the grinning, unrepentant Wu Sheng. They glared at him resentfully before turning to look at Su Li with an expression of pure exasperation.

If this were happening in a later era, everyone would have definitely cursed him out: "Psycho."

’Yes, to an outsider, Wu Sheng’s previous behavior really did seem crazy. But all Su Li felt was touched.’

’Overwhelmingly touched. Other than that, there was nothing else.’

After offering that one explanation, Wu Sheng turned back to look at Su Li.

"Does it still hurt a lot?"

Su Li hummed softly in response, and a complex mix of worry and happiness appeared on Wu Sheng’s face.

Su Li raised her hand to caress Wu Sheng’s face and murmured softly.

"You silly fool."

’But she really liked this silly, foolish man.’

’Wu Sheng was so silly because he liked her just as much as she liked him, right?’

Wu Sheng accepted Su Li’s "silly fool" label. Ignoring the stares of others, he reached out and scooped Su Li up into his arms.

"Let’s go home. We’ll get some rest."

"Okay," Su Li nodded.

"Zhang Ming, we’re leaving. You’ve got a half-day off tomorrow morning," Wu Sheng said to Wa Wa Lian before carrying Su Li out of the ward.

The moment Su Li and Wu Sheng left, everyone in the ward immediately began to sigh and curse.

"What a tragedy. Such a nice girl, and she has to marry a man like that."

"Isn’t that the truth? And he’s a soldier, too, but so rotten. Hey, kid, you call him ’Boss’? In the future..."

The voices from the ward weren’t very loud, but Su Li heard them.

Su Li looked up at Wu Sheng. If she could hear them, then he certainly could too. However, Wu Sheng seemed completely unaffected, simply holding her steadily in his arms.

Looking at Wu Sheng being badmouthed, Su Li was suddenly overcome with an impulse. As if possessed, she said something.

"Wu Sheng, let’s get married at the end of the year."

When Wu Sheng heard this, he didn’t register it at first. He took two more steps before it suddenly dawned on him, and he whipped his head around to look at Su Li.

His eyes went wide, as if he’d just seen a ghost.

Su Li watched him quietly, waiting for his reaction.

’She was a little shy and a little nervous. This was a marriage proposal, after all.’

’Even though there was no proposal ring, this still counted as a proposal.’

’And it was the woman proposing to the man...’

’But she didn’t regret it. She really wanted to get married, to marry this man.’

’It wasn’t an impulsive decision, either. Wu Sheng had proposed before, so it was only fair for her to do it once too... It was perfect.’

Su Li thought to herself as she waited for Wu Sheng to say yes.

But... after several seconds passed, Wu Sheng just kept staring at her, showing no reaction.

The smile on Su Li’s lips grew a little stiff.

’A song lyric echoed in her mind: *The worst is when the air goes suddenly quiet...*’

Su Li waited another two seconds before she finally couldn’t take it anymore. "Wu Sheng, you... you don’t want to get married?"

’Was her proposal being rejected?’

Wu Sheng’s frozen state was finally broken. He snapped back to life.

"You... you..." Wu Sheng swallowed hard. His legs went weak, and he nearly lost his grip on Su Li.

He quickly tightened his hold on Su Li, steadied his feet, took a deep breath, and looked at her.

"Su Li, slap me."

Su Li was speechless.

’It’s one thing to say no, but what was this all about?’

When Wu Sheng saw that Su Li wasn’t moving, he managed to hoist her up with one leg to support her, freeing a hand to give himself a hard slap across the face.

"It hurts... so, that means what just happened was real."

"You really just said you want to get married, right?" Wu Sheng’s face flushed red at a visible rate, and a second later, he burst out into a peal of laughter.

"HAHAHA, Su Li, you agreed to marry me! Haha! Yes! Yes! We’ll get married at the end of the year! HAHAHA!"

Wu Sheng roared with laughter.

This time, it was Su Li’s turn to be startled.

"You... you shut up! Wu Sheng, what are you doing? Stop shouting."

’Oh god, just kill me. Wu Sheng was letting out a yell like that in the hospital’s quiet zone. He was... he was practically suicidal.’

The words had barely left Su Li’s mouth when, sure enough, family members from various wards came out with furrowed brows, and the doctor and nurses on duty came over as well.

"No loud noises in the patient ward area."

Su Li wished she could find a hole to crawl into. Since there wasn’t one, she had no choice but to bury her face in Wu Sheng’s chest, deceiving herself into thinking that if she couldn’t see anyone, no one could see her.

’Su Li was dying of embarrassment. She was also dying of regret. If she had known... if she had known, she wouldn’t have said anything at a time like this.’

’Thinking back, it really was the wrong time and place.’

’She had been too impulsive, she hadn’t chosen the right place at all.’

’Proposing in a hospital, while being carried by Wu Sheng, when both of them probably smelled a little... it really wasn’t romantic in the slightest.’

Su Li thought to herself, wishing she could turn back time.

But time couldn’t be turned back, so she just played dead.

Su Li was overwhelmed with shame, burying her face, unable to look at anyone. Wu Sheng, however, felt none of that.

Even after being told off, his face was still glowing. "Sorry, sorry! I just got too excited and couldn’t help but let out a yell."

He laughed heartily. "It’s mainly because I’m finally getting a wife."

He was so overjoyed that the crowd, which had been somewhat displeased, was infected by his happiness and couldn’t help but start smiling.

"No wonder you were scaring people by howling in the middle of the night. Turns out you’re getting a wife. Ah well, forget it. We’ll forgive you."

Everyone saw that he was still carrying a girl, and they shook their heads, unable to keep from smiling.

"Thank you, thank you. Thanks, everyone." Wu Sheng thanked them all as he carried Su Li away from the hospital.

After carrying Su Li back to the car, Wu Sheng was still floating in a state of pleasant surprise.

It wasn’t until he had safely brought Su Li home and it was time to part ways that Wu Sheng finally snapped out of his daze.

"Su Li, I was being an idiot from happiness just now. I only just realized—I should have been the one to do this. I should have been the one to ask you to marry me. How could I let you be the one to say it?"

Traditionally, the man is the one who brings it up. He’d been thinking about it for a long, long time. Seeing that Su Li was about to officially graduate, he had even been secretly planning for a while, wanting to give Su Li a surprise to get her to say yes.

According to his plan, it would have been just a little while longer, but... but Su Li beat him to it.

"Su Li, I want a do-over," Wu Sheng demanded.

The blush still hadn’t faded from Su Li’s face. Hearing what Wu Sheng said, she shook her head.

"There’s no need. You already proposed once before, and I agreed. This time it was my turn. Isn’t that perfect?"

"That’s different. That was for the engagement. This is for the marriage," Wu Sheng said.

"Nope. You agreed, so it’s settled. I was the one who proposed this time."

Su Li smirked and said in a low voice, "From now on, you’re mine. You’re the one who agreed to become my man."

Wu Sheng, who had been smiling foolishly all the way home, so happy he felt like spinning in circles, finally washed his face and calmed down. And then it hit him.

’He had been roped in by Su Li’s sweet talk again!’

’How can she be like this? She always uses sweet words to bewitch me, leaving me completely defenseless...’

’Wu Sheng found it so strange. Su Li was usually so shy, yet at times she could be so bold, saying things that made his heart race.’

’Other guys’ wives were definitely not like this!’

Wu Sheng took a deep breath, and then another, trying to calm down. But in the end, he couldn’t help but break into a wide grin.
