Chapter 550 - 549: The Effort Behind the Scenes (Part 3)

Wu Sheng pinched his thigh. Only after confirming it was real did he start to dig in.

He watched Su Li as he ate. She sat across from him, focused on her food. When she noticed him looking, she placed some food in his bowl. "Eat up."

"You eat too." Wu Sheng returned the favor, putting some food in her bowl. "Su Li, did something happen today?"

"Nothing, I just wanted to come see you. You were always telling me about your colleague’s fiancée visiting and bringing him food, right? You seemed so envious."

Wu Sheng swallowed the rice in his mouth. "I’ve been saying that for months."

’So there must be something else, right?’

"I was just busy and didn’t have time before. Now, hurry up and eat." Su Li didn’t know whether to laugh or cry, and she quietly began to reflect on herself.

’It seems... I really have been neglecting Wu Sheng a little.’

Between Little Tang Mo, studying, and all sorts of other things, her schedule was always packed.

Though her feelings for Wu Sheng hadn’t changed, the time she set aside for him was far too little.

’It’s like we’ve skipped straight to the life of a middle-aged couple, years into a marriage we haven’t even had yet... Any free time I have revolves around my child...’

’And because of my personality, I’m not one to say sweet things often. No wonder a single phone call and one visit have him acting so incredulous.’

Su Li watched the overjoyed Wu Sheng and let out a soft sigh.

Su Li had brought a generous amount of food, but Wu Sheng was up to the task and finished every last bite.

"I’m stuffed." After he finished, Wu Sheng patted his stomach in satisfaction. "This is the best lunch I’ve ever had. It’s a hundred times better than the cafeteria food."

"I’m just glad you liked it." Su Li started to get up to clean, but Wu Sheng gently pushed her back down.

"Don’t move. I’ll take care of it."

After returning the lunch containers to the car, Wu Sheng took Su Li’s hand, his back ramrod straight. "Now, I’m going to show you where I work."

"Am I allowed to go in?" Su Li asked, curious.

"You can with me here. Let’s go." Holding her hand, Wu Sheng nodded to the gate guard and led Su Li inside.

"Normally, people aren’t allowed in, but don’t worry, I’m with you. I’ll show you the areas you’re allowed to see. It’s lunchtime, so everything’s fine."

He’d been waiting for what felt like an eternity for Su Li to visit, and now she was finally here. Of course, Wu Sheng had to show her off... no, take her for a walk.

Spring had arrived, and everything was a lush green.

Wu Sheng led Su Li inside just as everyone was finishing lunch and coming out of the cafeteria. They hadn’t gone far before they ran into group after group of people.

When these people saw Wu Sheng and Su Li, their reactions were all pretty much the same.

They stared intently at the couple, their eyes wide with a startlingly bright curiosity.

Su Li tried to pull her hand away, but Wu Sheng held on for dear life.

"Let go," Su Li whispered, unable to break free. She gave him a little pinch.

Wu Sheng endured the sting without letting go. "Just for a little while."

People kept greeting them along the way. Wu Sheng smiled back at everyone, repeating the same single phrase.

"This is my fiancée."

His tone was proud, his chin held high.

He was determined to show off his fiancée.

Su Li kept a smile plastered on her face the entire time, trying desperately to keep her cheeks from burning under the scorching gazes and the chorus of "Sister-in-law!"

"My office is up there. I spend about a third of my week in it."

Wu Sheng gave her a brief tour. "There are planes over there, but you can’t get any closer."

Su Li nodded. "That’s fine. I’ve seen enough. Let’s head out."

"What’s the hurry?" Wu Sheng felt the tour was too short, but he obliged and started walking back with her.

As they passed the cafeteria, Su Li saw that everyone inside was pressed against the glass, staring out at them.

Su Li glanced over and whispered to Wu Sheng, "What are they doing?"

The corner of Wu Sheng’s mouth twitched. "Just ignore them," he replied.

’These guys are unbelievable.’

’Have they never seen a person before?’

’But fine, let them look.’

’Su Li is so beautiful and capable. Let’s see who dares to spread any more nasty rumors after this!’

Wu Sheng held his head high and puffed out his chest, bursting with pride.

Su Li, on the other hand, felt a little awkward and started to walk faster.

"Sister-in-law!" After walking a bit further, Su Li saw the familiar face of Wa Wa Lian.

"Oh, long time no see, Zhang Ming." Su Li breathed a sigh of relief at seeing a familiar face.

"Hello, Sister-in-law!" Behind Wa Wa Lian stood a dozen or so men, who all shouted in her direction, completely ignoring Wu Sheng at her side.

"Hello, everyone." Su Li quickly inclined her head.

Other than Wa Wa Lian, Su Li didn’t know any of them, though a few looked vaguely familiar. Still, they all carried themselves with a similar air.

’One look and you could tell they were the men under Wu Sheng’s command.’

"What are you all doing standing around here?" Wu Sheng asked from the side.

Only then did the group turn to look at Wu Sheng. Wa Wa Lian, acting as their representative, replied, "Leader, we came to welcome Sister-in-law! It’s her first time visiting, after all."

The corner of Wu Sheng’s mouth twitched upward. He grunted in acknowledgement, seemingly satisfied.

Wa Wa Lian didn’t miss Wu Sheng’s expression. Suppressing a laugh, he said in a serious tone, "Sister-in-law, you might not recognize them, but they’ve all seen you before. Back at the hospital."

When Wu Sheng had been injured, they had all taken turns visiting him.

"Hello, everyone," Su Li said, inclining her head again.

"Sister-in-law, they’ve also had the steamed buns you bought for us before, so they all wanted to thank you," Wa Wa Lian added with a grin.

They were the ones who had gone with Wu Sheng to Wucheng. They all remembered how Su Li had chased after their vehicle to give them hot steamed buns.

The moment Wa Wa Lian mentioned it, Su Li remembered chasing after their car.

"Oh... I’m glad you liked them. Actually, I brought some more food today. I’ll give it to Wu Sheng in a little while. I hope you all enjoy it."

After Su Li spoke, not only Wa Wa Lian and his men, but even Wu Sheng was surprised.

"You brought more?"

Su Li nodded. "Mhm, it’s in the trunk."

Wa Wa Lian and the others straightened up, thanking her with pleasant surprise. "Thank you, Sister-in-law!"

"You’re welcome, it’s nothing." Su Li took a deep breath. "Next time... next time I visit, I’ll bring more for you."

’These are all Wu Sheng’s important colleagues. In the future, after I... ahem... marry Wu Sheng, I can invite them over for dinner.’

’If their families aren’t nearby, they probably don’t have anywhere to get a good meal besides the cafeteria. Having them over for a nice home-cooked meal... wouldn’t be a bad idea.’

Su Li blushed a little at the thought and said her goodbyes to Wa Wa Lian and his men.
