Chapter 313: Combo Spells Are Too OP!

Rank No: 70

Name: Uhtred

Race: Human

Scenario Points: 217

━━━━━━━━━━━━━

Two hundred and seventeen… So, the Apetitan was worth twenty-five points, Uhtred mused. It was a significant increase compared to the Tempest Panthera he had fought earlier. That beast had been powerful too, but only worth seventeen points.

In any case, whether it’s the Apetitan or the Tempest Panthera, I’ll still have to kill a ridiculous amount to come close to that number one guy…

Already, the top rankings had changed again. Within the timespan Uhtred had taken from the gateway outpost to this point, the number one ranker, Ignis The Mighty, had gained a hundred more Scenario points, bringing his total to 98,490.

The rest of the rankers were the same. Although none had gained up to a hundred points in the same timeframe, they’d all seen minor increases too.

“All the more reason why I should just focus on improving my spells instead of rushing for points…”

With his mind made up, Uhtred ventured deeper into the forest, retreating to a secluded area to recover for a bit before setting out to hunt for more beasts — specifically focusing on testing his new Railgun spell and Lightning Battleaxe construct in battle.

Half a day later…

Uhtred had hunted the whole night. He lost himself in practice, enjoying the process of refining his new spells.

He didn’t really make much gain in terms of the raw power output of the Railgun — no significant gain could be made in that regard overnight. Instead, the main areas where he had seen significant improvement were in his casting time and flexibility with the spell.

Unlike when he had just created the spell, he no longer took a long time to conjure the Railgun construct. From a seven-second casting time, he had shaved it down to four.

The difference didn’t seem like much, but those four seconds were only for when he wanted to charge the lightning projectile to its maximum level. If he simply wanted to cast the most rapid version he could muster, he could do it in two seconds.

Aside from his Railgun spell, his lightning battleaxe construct had also seen significant refinement. Not only was it more solid and durable, but its lightning effect was more pronounced.

Each strike with his lightning battleaxe carried a continuous shocking jolt, making his attacks deal nearly double the damage.

Then there was also one last improvement…

A loud screech resounded through the forest as Uhtred’s lightning battleaxe landed with a sickening crunch, digging deeply through a dinosaur-like avian beast. The beast plummeted straight to the ground, seemingly dead before it even touched ground.

Uhtred watched it fall from about a hundred meters away, where he stood. Then, instead of rushing toward the beast to claim its core or to retrieve his lightning battleaxe, he simply stood still and stretched his hand forward in a grasping motion.

In the distance, the lightning battleaxe began to vibrate. It shook with a slowly building intensity, prying itself out of the flesh of the beast. Then, in a sudden burst, it sped straight toward Uhtred like a homing missile.

With a wide grin breaking across his face, Uhtred growled with excitement, then sped forward to meet it halfway. Just as man and weapon were about to clash, Uhtred suddenly altered his momentum.

Stretching his hand, he grabbed the charging lightning battleaxe midair, fluidly matching its momentum and feeding it into his own.

At the exact same moment, he activated Slipstream Stride, but instead of moving across the ground, he launched himself forward and into the air.

He urged cosmic essence into the lightning battleaxe, charging it until it glowed and crackled brightly with lightning magic. Then, with a wild roar, he descended straight at the “dead” beast like an incarnation of a god of thunder.

The beast that had supposedly “died” suddenly jolted. Horror colored its avian face as it hastily tried to scamper out of the way at the last second. It turned out the damned beast had been faking it after all. Uhtred’s earlier hit had truly been fatal, but not enough to kill the beast in one strike.

Just like the Apetitan, this beast was also decently intelligent. It had played dead, expecting Uhtred to walk up to it, hoping to use that moment to launch a surprise attack. But Uhtred had seen through its ruse perfectly.

He descended, roaring with wild excitement, and delivered a shocking final blow.

A resounding crack like a thunderclap cut through the air. The earth shattered on impact. Violent lightning tore through the air, showering a five-meter radius around Uhtred with crackling currents. A heavy dust cloud shrouded his figure and the beast that had been trying to escape.

“Hahaha!! This is what I’m fucking talking about!!” Uhtred’s voice came from the shrouding dust. He waved a hand, using air magic to clear the area, revealing his figure along with the aftermath of his strike.

Nothing was left of the avian beast — not even its essence core or a trace of its corpse. All of it had been obliterated in that single strike, leaving only a charred crater beneath Uhtred’s feet.

“Bloody hell! Perfectly timed combo attacks are really too overpowered!” Uhtred guffawed, taking in the carnage he’d wreaked.

This was the last improvement he’d made over the past day. He wasn’t able to improve the individual power of his new spells significantly, but he’d figured out a way to make at least one of them way more powerful by combining it with a different technique entirely.

He had used the momentum of his returning lightning battleaxe and fueled it further with Slipstream Stride to create a result that was more than double the normal damage.

“I wonder what other kinds of combo attacks I can cook up with enough practice,” Uhtred muttered, a sinister grin on his face.

Suddenly, he tilted his head, his ears picking up something like the sound of voices in the distance.

Humans? He frowned. Have I gotten so close to human territory already?

Sorry for the single-chapter releases yesterday and today, guys. I’ve been busy with some irl duties. In fact, I had to rush to put out this chapter just so there’d be an update today. But I’ll be free to write again starting tomorrow, so I’ll make up for it with three chapters!
