Flash Marriage: My Penniless Billionaire Husband
Chapter 385: We’re Good
She didn’t know what Grace meant by detrimental consequences. Was there anything else that she didn’t know apart from the mystery about her mom?
Just as she was wondering, her phone rang again. It was James, asking how long it would take for her to get to the office.
Only then did she realize it’s been a while and said, "Immediately."
She hung up and walked toward the office.
For the entire morning, she was very absent-minded.
Grace is not saber-rattling.
Since she said so, it must be true.
However, she did not know what other tricks Grace had.
"What are you thinking about?"
When James had finished what was on hand, he looked up and saw her in a daze.
She did not even notice the water seeping out of the cup.
He quickly rushed over and pulled her aside, preventing her from getting scalded.
Only then did Yvonne wake up from her daze and saw the mess she had created.
She was shocked. She quickly took some napkins to wipe off the water on the table.
"I’m sorry."
She wiped in a hurry.
He frowned, pulled her aside, took the tissue from her hand and said, "What’s wrong with you? You’ve been out of your wits all morning."
His face was full of doubts.
After answering the call, he felt that something was wrong with her.
She was afraid that he would see through her, so she quickly shook her head and said, "It’s nothing. Oh, right, I suddenly remembered that I need to go out for a while. Don’t wait for me to have lunch."
After that, she turned around and hurried out of the door without waiting for his reply.
He had wanted to stop her to ask if she needed his help, but before he could, she walked out.
He frowned. What exactly was going on?
He rubbed his glabella and felt uneasy, so he called Rob in.
"Go check on the White Enterprise. See if they had made any moves recently."
Rob left to check what’s going on.
James was still worried. After a while, he took out his cell phone and sent a WhatsApp message.
"Is your wife by your side?"
It was to Chris.
When Chris saw the message, he was rubbing Janice’s belly.
Before that, for some reason, she was complaining that her stomach was bloated and uncomfortable. She and Chris both thought that she was about to give birth, but after going to the hospital for a check-up, they found out that it was the baby turning and engaging its head in the pelvis, which meant that it would be born within one or two weeks.
Hearing this, Chris was so nervous, he didn’t want to go to the company.
When he saw James’ message, he frowned. He told Janice that he needed to make a call then left the room to call James.
"What’s up?"
His message implied either he was bored or there was more than meets the eye.
As expected, James said, "It’s nothing much, just that my wife has been worried about your wife, that she is going to pop soon, so she wants to go take a look."
Chris knew it.
He asked, "Are you bored?"
As soon as Chris heard this, he knew that he was talking nonsense. He frowned and said, "Or did you quarrel with your wife? Come on, fess up. What are you digging at?"
Hearing this, James was speechless, he was kind of frustrated. Why does he need to find out what’s going on with his wife by WhatsApp-ing someone else, and he couldn’t even ask directly about it. It was so embarrassing.
"Can’t you wish me well? The two of us are doing just great."
James awkwardly brushed his hair in embarrassment.
...
Chris thought to himself, "I don’t know how many times you have inquired about it in public and in private."
He said, "Alright. If that’s the case, I’m hanging up." "No, you haven’t answered me yet." James hurriedly stopped him. Chris frowned.
"Where’s my wife? She hasn’t given birth yet, but she’ll give birth soon. As for you, I can only tell you that she has been staying at home every day recently and has never seen anyone."
After that, Chris hung up the phone.
"Hey hey..."
Hearing the beep from the other side of the line, James couldn’t do much. He didn’t get to ask what he wanted either.
What a meanie.
James threw his phone aside.
Thinking of Yvonne, who had left in a hurry, he sighed helplessly.
"Who was it?"
As soon as Chris returned to the bedroom, Janice asked.
He walked over and continued to rub her belly, "James."
"Was it about Yvonne? Did they quarrel again?"
She pressed on.
He saw that she was worried so he shook his head. "Don’t worry. I don’t think so."
Hearing this, she relaxed. She glanced at her belly, which felt much better, and said, "I wonder when the baby will come out."
"What? You can’t wait any longer?"
Hearing her words, he asked.
She replied, "That’s right. I can’t wait to meet the baby. Hubby, do you think I have twins cos I’m so big?"
Hearing this, he stopped what he was doing and said, "It’s possible."
"But we have been checking for this long, and the doctor hasn’t told us anything. If it’s twins, they would tell us."
"Maybe the doctor wants to give us a surprise."
She glared at him and smiled. "How is that possible? One is good enough. We can focus on bring up the child. If there are two of them, I’ll probably be in a mess."
Hearing her words, he was full of smiles. He didn’t answer, but the chaotic scene of her taking care of two children, involuntarily floated across his mind.
He decided, forget it.
He didn’t want her to be so tired.
Moreover, he wished that they can have more alone time for each other.
He was going to make up to her after the baby was born.
In the famous Domini Bansel Bakery of Tomaville.
After Yvonne had left the office in a hurry, she came straight here.
Before that, she had called Aunt Lisa to ask her out for a meeting.
When she recalled that Aunt Lisa liked the Cronut here most, she decided to meet at this bakery.
When Yvonne had arrived at the bakery, Aunt Lisa wasn’t there yet. She found a quiet table and sat down to wait for her to arrive.
While waiting, she tried to recollect what had happened when she was a child.
She remembered that Aunt Lisa was one of the few relatives who interacted with her mother when she was still alive.
Although, within the rich and powerful families, relationships between family members were complicated, she believed that if she had to find someone who knew the inside story, then it had to be Aunt Lisa.
So, when she decided to figure out the truth behind the Whites, Aunt Lisa was the first person who came to her mind.
Just as she was thinking about it, Aunt Lisa walked over.
"There’s a traffic jam on the way. Yvonne, you’ve been waiting for a while, haven’t you?"
Aunt Lisa said apologetically.
Yvonne shook her head and said, "No, I’ve just arrived too."
...
"That’s good."
Aunt Lisa sat down, but she couldn’t help looking at Yvonne, who was seated across her.
Times have changed and the status of her niece was now different. After marrying into the Taylors she is the young daughter-in-law of the Taylors, and her status was completely different from before.
Even though she was her aunt, she now had to show some respect to her.
Yvonne met Aunt Lisa’s gaze and said with a smile, "Aunt Lisa, let’s order something. I heard that the Cronut here is pretty good, so I have ordered a set for you. Take a look and see what else would you like to have?"
As she spoke, she handed over the menu.
Hearing that there was Cronut, Aunt Lisa was naturally very happy. When she was looking at the menu, she found that dishes were quite pricey, and her eyes instantly lit up.
It should be noted that due to the lack of funds in recent days, the Whites had been living a rather pauper life. Not to mention such an expensive restaurant, even small restaurants were rarely affordable. When she saw the prices on the menu, she couldn’t help but be envious.
Nevertheless, she still knew what was appropriate behavior.
After all, the current situation was different from the past.
With that thought in mind, she put down the menu with much pain and lied.
"It’s enough. One set of Cronut is enough. I can’t finish more than that."
Yvonne looked at Aunt Lisa’s polite demeanor and could not help but frown.
In the past, every time she saw her, she gave Yvonne a hard time. But this time, she was actually polite to her.
She said, "How about this? If you can’t finish everything, I’ll ask someone to pack and doggie bag for you to bring home later."
"Oh, that’s just too kind of you."
"Think nothing of it. We’re all a family, please don’t stand on ceremony with me."
After hearing what she said, Aunt Lisa did not decline further.
As they spoke, the food came.
Yvonne sat as she watched Aunt Lisa enjoy her food. She was thinking about how to approach her with the topic in her mind without appearing abrupt.
When Aunt Lisa was almost done eating, she asked, "Aunt Lisa, actually, I have
something to ask you."
Aunt Lisa was happily eating her food. Hearing her question, she naturally played along. "Go ahead."
"I wonder if you know about what happened to my mom back then."
She immediately stopped when she heard this, and a trace of uneasiness flashed across her face. But it was quickly concealed as she said, "Your... mom? What’s wrong with your mom?"
She seemed to be a little cautious.
Yvonne nodded and said, "Yes, I don’t know why, but I’ve been dreaming about my mom recently. Every time in the dreams, she tells me that she died unjustly with tears in her eyes. You know, when she passed away, I was still young and couldn’t remember a lot of things, so I just wanted to talk to you and see if I could recall anything."
After saying that, Yvonne deliberately stared at Aunt Lisa’s reaction.
Aunt Lisa’s face turned pale. It was obvious that she was frightened, but she quickly hid her emotions. However, she still stuttered when she spoke, "Is... is that so? But...
Yvonne, it’s not that I don’t want to tell you, but it’s been so long. I don’t really remember exactly what happened to your mom."
Aunt Lisa’s eyes were evasive. Obviously, she was avoiding something.
Yvonne saw her reaction and said.
"That’s true. After all, it’s been so long. It’s normal that you don’t remember."
