Flash Marriage: My Penniless Billionaire Husband
Chapter 361: He Would Never Choose Career Over Family
After hearing what Nathan said, Christopher smiled. He had already guessed the purpose of Nathan’s visit this time. It was exactly what he had expected. He snorted, "Do you want my mother and me to vote for you so badly?"
Nathan said, "Of course, only with your two key votes can I remain on the board." Nathan was telling the truth. At the last shareholders meeting, he lost the election because he missed the two most important votes of Christopher’s mother and Christopher. This time he had to fight for it.
Of course, Christopher knew how important his and his mother’s two votes were to Nathan, which was exactly why he would not easily agree to him. "Do you think I’m so interested in that project?" Christopher sneered lightly.
Hearing that, Nathan stared at the expression on his face, slightly hesitant, "You mean, you don’t want that project?" Christopher only fiddled with the mobile phone in his hand and did not answer. Nathan was less confident now. He knew that his son always liked to work against him. Moreover, he couldn’t talk any sense into Christopher sometimes. He could do nothing about it.
This time he had no other choice but to do so, but Christopher showed no interest at all. It frustrated Nathan. He paused and said seriously, "The Bateman Group is the hard work of my life. I want to be a shareholder for the good of the Bateman family. Chris, you are my only son. The Bateman family property is going to be yours in the end, so do you want to fight against me with your mother?"
Christopher didn’t believe Nathan’s statement. Indeed, he was the only son of the Bateman family and probably the only heir to the Bateman family property. But he didn’t want it. He can earn what he wanted. Besides, unlike Nathan, he would never choose a career over family. "You have said so much, and it is nothing more than the transfer of benefits. I’m not interested. You can leave."
He got up, walked to his desk and sat down, ignoring Nathan’s presence, and began to work. Nathan stood there for a while, then shook his head disappointedly, and walked towards the door. "There is still some time before the general meeting of shareholders. I hope you can give it serious consideration." He stopped at the door and walked out.
After he left, Christopher slowly raised his head. He suddenly thought of something, and then made a call, "Send more men to the Allson family." After hanging up the phone, he narrowed his eyes coldly. It was useless to talk about interests with him at any time. In the villa, Janice woke up to find that Christopher was no longer there, and saw a note on the bedside table.
He had gone to the company and asked to take care of herself. Janice frowned and put the note aside. She dragged her cumbersome body out of bed and went to the bathroom. When she was standing in front of the sink and brushing her teeth, something suddenly occurred to her.
How long hadn’t she visited Old Mr. Allson? It was almost two months. Thinking about this, she quickly finished washing, went downstairs to eat breakfast, got in the car, and asked the driver to take her to the Allson house. When she arrived at
Allsons’ villa, it was already ten o’clock in the morning.
...
She had thought about it. She would call Christopher in a while to tell him not to go back to the villa to have lunch with her, because she was going to stay in the Allson house for lunch It had been a long time since she had eaten the food made by Nanny Daisy, and she was drooling. She opened the door and got out of the car. Just as she was about to walk towards the door, a black Phaeton stopped not far away. Janice heard the sound of the car and glanced over there subconsciously, only to find that it was Nathan’s car. She couldn’t help being startled.
She hadn’t seen her father-in -law for a long time, and she was surprised to see him here. Could it be that he also came to visit Old Mr. Allson? Janice thought about it for a while and thought that maybe there was only half the possibility. Her mother-in-law was here too. She had heard Christopher talk about the divorce between her in - laws. After all, it was a matter between the elders, and it was inappropriate for her to ask about it, so she didn’t know what the situation was.
When Janice was thinking about it, Nathan had gotten out of the car, followed by Uncle Charlie, and the two were walking over together. Nathan had not recognized her as his daughter-in-law, but as a well-educated person, she decided to greet him anyway. So when Nathan walked in front of her, she politely nodded at them. He had never admitted recognized her, and she couldn’t directly call him father or something like that, so she could only nod at him politely. Nathan didn’t say anything. When his gaze flicked over her pregnant belly, he was slightly surprised.
He had been busy with company affairs recently and rarely paid attention to his daughter-in-law. She was so pregnant now. When Uncle Charlie saw her, he stepped forward respectfully and called her "Mrs. Bateman". However, Nathan glared at him when he heard it.
Uncle Charlie quickly lowered his head and took a step back. Janice stood there and saw the small movements between the two. She wasn’t very interested in being called "Mrs. Bateman", but Nathan’s reaction made her feel disgusted. That being the case, she didn’t have to respect him as her elder. She turned around, walked to the door, and rang the doorbell. It didn’t take long for the door to open. Nanny Daisy walked out of it and saw Janice standing at the door with a surprise on her face.
"Mrs. Bateman, nice to see you. Come in." She supported Janice and walked in cautiously.
Janice thought of Nathan who was standing behind her, so she winked at Nanny Daisy to suggest that there was someone behind. Nanny Daisy now noticed Nathan who was standing on the other side, but was startled, "Mr. Bateman?"
Nathan stepped forward slowly and glanced at Nanny Daisy, "I’m here for Wanda. Is she here?" Nanny Daisy remembered what Wanda had told her, and said hurriedly, "Wanda is out."
Nathan knew she was lying just by looking at the expression on Nanny Daisy’s face. He said, "Then I will go see Mr. Allson first." He was going to go inside. Nanny Daisy hurriedly stopped when she saw this, "Mr. Bateman, you can’t go in."
Nathan squinted at Nanny Daisy with sharp eyes, "Step aside!" Although Nanny Daisy was scared, she didn’t move.
"Mr. Bateman, I’m just following orders." Nanny Daisy said imploringly. How could Nathan listen to what a servant said, and he was about to rush in. Suddenly, a few people in black appeared out of nowhere.
...
They blocked the door to stop Nathan from going in. Nathan knew what they were doing. It wasn’t something a servant could do, and he knew who ordered it. It was a critical time and he couldn’t do things aggressively, so he said, "I’m not going in, but you go in and tell Wanda, I’ll wait for her outside the door."
With that, he turned and walked towards the car. Nanny Daisy was relieved, "Mrs. Bateman, I will help you in."
Janice saw everything. Although she did not understand why they didn’t allow Nathan to enter the house, she could see that the relationship between her in-laws had reached a white-hot stage. She was helped to the living room by Nanny Daisy. "Mrs. Bateman, please sit. I’ll go upstairs and tell Wanda. If she knows you are here, she will be very happy."
Nanny Daisy hurriedly walked upstairs. It didn’t take long before Wanda hurried down from upstairs. Seeing Janice sitting in the living room, she was excited beyond words, "Janice, why didn’t you make a call in advance so I could send someone to pick you up?"
"I decided to come over temporarily, so I didn’t call. Mom, how are you and Grandpa?"
"We are all fine. Look at you, your belly is getting bigger." Wanda sighed, then calculated it secretly, and said, "You will give birth to the baby in two months."
Janice nodded, "Yeah, I just want to come over and see you and Grandpa while I can still walk around now, or it will be inconvenient when the baby comes." Wanda thought she was very sensible and caring.
"Come on, sit down." Wanda helped her sit down and said, "Nanny Daisy, go and get the chicken soup that was just cooked in the morning."
"Yes." Nanny Daisy turned to the kitchen and brought a bowl of chicken soup. Wanda took it, checked the temperature, and found that it was just right. She hurriedly took a spoonful of it and said, "Come on, drink it while it’s warm."
"I’ll do it myself." Janice took it quickly. How could she let Wanda feed her? "I will do it. You’re so pregnant now, and it’s uncomfortable for you to sit."
Wanda had already delivered the soup to her mouth. Janice ate it obediently. "A few days ago, I told your Grandpa that I wanted to visit you sometime, and you came here unexpectedly," Wanda said while feeding her.
Janice was embarrassed. She had been busy with her father’s illness during that time, and indeed she hadn’t come to see them much. She felt guilty when she thought about it now. "Mom, I’m sorry, Chris and I should have come to see you and Grandpa more often." Janice looked guilty.
Wanda hurriedly said, "It’s not your fault. I specifically told Chris to keep you from coming back very often. The main reason is that it will be inconvenient for a
pregnant woman to go back and forth. Your grandfather and I can’t wait to see the baby." The two chatted briefly.
Nanny Daisy stepped forward, "Wanda, Mr. Bateman is still waiting outside..." The smile on Wanda’s face disappeared as soon as she mentioned Nathan, and she said, "Send someone over to tell him that I won’t see him today and ask him to go back." Nanny Daisy turned and walked away.
Wanda only then gathered her emotions and smiled apologetically at Janice, "I’m sorry." Janice shook her head. She understood Wanda’s feelings very well.
