Chapter 744: 743, I’ll take you home first
In G City, inside the Dean’s office at Kangning Hospital, Gu Kai is brainstorming over a medical case with his father, Gu Yan. Suddenly, the ring of his phone interrupted their discussion.
Upon seeing the caller ID, he raised an eyebrow.
Seeing Gu Kai squinting at his phone, Gu Yan casually inquired, “Ah Kai, who’s calling? You look disturbed.”
Gu Kai chuckled and nonchalantly replied, “It’s Ah Jin.”
As he answered the call, his voice was even more indifferent, “Hello.”
“Ah Kai, I just saw the woman you were searching for at the police station.”
On the other end of the line, Wen Jin’s voice filled with excitement transmitted across.
Ever since he offended Gu Kai the day he drove him back to the hospital, he had been considering whether he should help him find that woman.
He had even visited the mall where they had run into each other to request to see the surveillance footage, but by sheer coincidence, the footage from those two days was corrupted.
Gu Kai’s eyes flashed subtly, but his voice maintained a lazy tone, voicing doubt about Wen Jin’s statement, “You’ve never met her. How can you be sure it’s her?”
“I am sending you a photo right away, you can confirm it.”
Immediately after Wen Jin spoke, not even two seconds passed before the photo arrived. Gu Kai saw the silhouette in the photo.
He sprang from his seat and said to Gu Yan who was behind the desk, “Dad, I need to step out for a bit,” and then hastily walked towards the door.
Once he was out in the corridor, he immediately questioned, “Where is she now?”
“She just left. I came to see Zhiyan at the police station and happened to run into her outside. She seemed like the person you were looking for, so I snapped a photo. Ah Kai, is it her?”
“Yes, it is.”
There was a tint of annoyance in Gu Kai’s voice. That woman had managed to elude him on three occasions.
Aside from the first instance which happened outside G City and in the countryside where he was volunteering as a doctor.
The other two times were in G City, suggesting that she could be a local resident.
“Ah Kai, since I found her for you, I don’t owe you anymore. Do not grudge me any longer. You can track her down by her license plate number.”
“Who knows if the car is even hers. What was she doing at the police station?”
With his mind racing, Gu Kai hastened his strides.
“If you want to know, I will make some inquiries and call you back later.”
After ending the call, Wen Jin entered Lu Zhiyan’s office, buried in a pile of case files.
Lu Zhiyan packed up the files and stood up to pour water for him.
Sitting on the sofa, Wen Jin initiated the conversation as Lu Zhiyan poured the water, “Zhiyan, I want to inquire about someone.”
Lu Zhiyan handed him the cup of water and seated himself on another sofa. Casually, he asked, “Who?”
“This woman. I saw her leaving as I was entering, I wondered if you recognize her. Can you look into it? I am interested to know why she came to the police station.”
As Wen Jin spoke, he handed the photo he had just taken to Lu Zhiyan, his eyes filled with curiosity.
Lu Zhiyan glanced at the photo on Wen Jin’s phone. His eyes flickered, “Why do you want to know? She came to visit Fu Jingyi.”
“Visit Fu Jingyi?”
Surprise spread over Wen Jin’s handsome face. He thought he had heard wrong. Good Lord, the woman who repeatedly made a fool of Gu Kai is related to Fu Jingyi?
Lu Zhiyan nodded, amusingly looking at the surprised Wen Jin, “What’s so strange about that? Could it be, you know her?”
Wen Jin shook his head hurriedly, “No, I don’t. A friend of mine knows her. I just thought she looked familiar, so I took a photo just to confirm. By the way, how is she related to Fu Jingyi?”

All evening, Gu Kai waited for the “I will call you later” that Wen Jin promised, but the call never came.
By 9:30 PM, Gu Kai dialed Wen Jin’s phone number himself.
After many rings, Wen Jin’s voice came through the receiver. Gu Kai jumped straight to the point, asking, “Have you found anything? What’s the woman’s name? What was her business at the police station?”
On the phone, Wen Jin remained silent.
After more than 10 seconds, just as Gu Kai was ready to prompt him once again, his voice came across the line, “Ah Kai, you’d better stop looking for that woman, she’s Fu Jingyi’s rumored daughter.”
“What?”
The apple Gu Kai had just picked up slipped back onto the fruit tray, his voice suddenly raised several decibels.
“You say that woman is Fu Jingyi’s daughter?”
He asked disbelievingly, how could this be? The woman, no matter how detestable she was, did not resemble Fu Jingyi.
“Yes, she indeed is Fu Jingyi’s daughter, I heard that she is not close to Fu Jingyi. She lived with her mother since young. Fu Jingyi disliked them, he only provides them with a yearly allowance. She didn’t come to the police station to visit him, but to gloat.”
Gu Kai’s face slowly changed while a wave of irritation swelled in his chest. He finally stated coldly, “Alright, I got it.”
“Ah Kai, are you okay?”
Perhaps detecting his unusual tone, Wen Jin asked, sounding a bit worried.
He did not know what relation Gu Kai had with Fu Jingyi’s daughter, but if she was someone for whom Gu Kai would go to the lengths of chasing into a mall, then their relationship was something extraordinary.
He was incredibly shocked when he heard that the woman was Fu Jingyi’s daughter.
Just like Gu Kai, he thought that she looked nothing like Fu Jingyi.
Gu Kai took a cigarette from the coffee table, lighting it and sticking it between his fingers. With a trace of indifference in his voice, he said, “I’m fine. But, you’re not to bring this up around Ranran.”
“Alright.”
Unexpectedly, Wen Jin did not ridicule him but complied with his request readily.
However, he felt that things between Gu Kai and that woman were not as simple as he described.

City C
Wen Ran was sitting quietly in the corner of a private booth, watching An Lin and Luo Haofeng perform a duet.
Having known Luo Haofeng for so long, she was still unaware that he sang so well.
Unconsciously, she began thinking about Mo Xiuchen. It seemed that she had never heard him sing before either.
“Wen Ran, you should choose a song too.”
From her side, a voice from Qin Mu broke the silence. Wen Ran turned towards him and offered a tiny smile, replying softly, “No need, I don’t feel like singing.”
A glimmer of compassion flashed in Qin Mu’s eyes. He could tell that without Mo Xiuchen around, Wen Ran was barely keeping her cheer up.
Even when she smiled, it was mechanical, unlike before when her mere simple smiles were filled with flavors of joy and sweetness.
Now, no matter how bright and radiant her smile was, he could no longer find that warm feeling in it.
It caused his heart to ache instead of warm up in response to her smiles.
“If you’re tired, I can take you home. An Lin may sing late into the night tonight.”
Looking up at the two people engrossed in singing, Qin Mu made the light suggestion.
Wen Ran was sitting here but her mind was elsewhere. He, himself, didn’t particularly like noisy places.
However, due to his health condition, he was somewhat fatigued and wanted to retire early.
“Are you tired?”
Wen Ran asked him in return. She was not feeling tired.
Having no mood to stay here any longer, the lyrics of those songs served to only stir up a string of melancholy emotions within her.
