Chapter 98: Chapter 98: Whoever Tied the Bell Must Untie It

Qiao Suluo snapped back to her senses. Cupping her hands in a respectful salute, she said, "Thank you."

Without sparing another word, she hurried inside to find Que Hongjin.

Entering a room, she immediately spotted Que Hongjin lying motionless on the bed. Looking at his haggard and pale face, her heart twisted painfully. Her eyes burned with unshed tears. Quickly wiping the mist from the corners of her eyes, she steadied her mind and hurried over to check his pulse.

After feeling his pulse, a look of surprise washed over Qiao Suluo’s face. The poison in his body had mutated into something more severe. It seemed as though several different toxins had interacted, yet more than half of the poison had actually been neutralized and cured. Moreover, the rampaging aura in his Spiritual Sea had been suppressed.

His current physical condition was no longer critical. Knowing that Que Hongjin wasn’t in grave danger, the heavy stone hanging in Qiao Suluo’s chest finally settled. Even so, she infused her Healing Ability into his body, repairing some of the lingering internal injuries.

She asked the system, "System, why hasn’t Que Hongjin woken up?"

The system replied, "I don’t know about that. However, the Medical Skill of this Young Valley Master of the Medicine King Valley is evidently quite formidable. To have a way to cure such a severe poison... Following his methods, I believe it won’t be long before he completely detoxifies Que Hongjin.

"Furthermore, Host, I noticed many rare medicinal herbs in his bamboo basket. If we put those in the shop, they could be exchanged for quite a few points."

Hearing the system’s words, Qiao Suluo’s mouth twitched. "You’ve got your eyes on his herbs, haven’t you?

"I’m not going to rob him for you. This Young Valley Master of the Medicine King Valley saved Que Hongjin, and I need to thank him properly."

She was someone who drew a clear line between gratitude and grudges. Since he had saved Que Hongjin, she would show her utmost appreciation.

"Also, why is Yue Hanzheng here? Why didn’t you give me a heads-up?" she added.

Thinking of how Yue Hanzheng repulsed and loathed her, she felt incredibly helpless. With Yue Hanzheng acting like this, there was simply no way to win his heart, let alone complete the mission. No matter what she did, he would suspect she had some ulterior motive.

The system stated, "The reward from completing your mission was only enough to exchange for one information card. That allowed me to detect Que Hongjin’s location; naturally, I couldn’t track Yue Hanzheng’s."

When Qiao Suluo had entered the room to check Que Hongjin’s pulse, Bai Qianluo and Chu Moyuan had followed closely behind her. Thus, Chu Moyuan had taken in every shift of Qiao Suluo’s expression. He wondered if she was actually worrying about her Beast Husband. That moisture in her eyes earlier... was she crying? Chu Moyuan was thoroughly shocked. But did she really care about Que Hongjin that much?

Before long, Gu Songlan walked in carrying a bowl of medicine. Placing it on the bedside table, he said, "Since you are his wife, you should feed him this medicine.

"The medicine is a bit hot; mind the temperature."

Hearing Gu Songlan’s voice, Qiao Suluo snapped back to attention. She cupped her hands and bowed to him in earnest, saying, "Thank you for saving him.

"May I ask the Young Valley Master’s name?"

Gu Songlan replied faintly, "Gu Songlan."

Qiao Suluo’s expression shifted slightly. "Songlan is a beautiful name. Both its roots and leaves have medicinal effects. The green leaves of the Solanum nigrum can cool the blood and clear skin blemishes, specifically treating heat-toxin rashes, while the root can..."

She went on to explain the medicinal properties of the Solanum nigrum in detail, including its cultivation characteristics.

Gu Songlan’s eyes flickered. He hadn’t expected this female to possess such a solid understanding of medicinal herbs.

"Dongqing didn’t know you earlier. If he was negligent in his manners, please forgive him."

Qiao Suluo waved her hand. "No, it was I who intruded so abruptly.

"Young Master Gu has saved my Beast Husband, and I have no way to repay such a debt. However, I do possess a fine prescription that might aid Young Master Gu in treating others."

After checking Que Hongjin’s pulse and hearing the system’s remarks, Qiao Suluo knew that this Young Valley Master of the Medicine King Valley saved and treated people free of charge. He truly had the benevolent heart of a healer. With his high Medical Skill as well, she was more than willing to treat such a Beastman with utmost sincerity. He deserved to be respected.

Earlier, Qiao Suluo had been pondering how to express her gratitude. Yet this Young Master Gu looked as though he was uninterested in worldly affairs, carrying an air as clear as a gentle breeze and as bright as the moon. Despite his noble status, his attire was exceedingly plain. He didn’t wear a single accessory, and only a faint scent of herbs lingered on his person, indicating that he spent year-round working with medicinal plants.

Therefore, she felt that nothing could be more fitting than a medical prescription to convey her thanks.

"I don’t save people in exchange for gratitude," he said.

He simply enjoyed researching incurable diseases and complicated maladies. If Que Hongjin and Yue Hanzheng’s conditions hadn’t been so severe, he wouldn’t have bothered saving them.

Seeing him like this, Qiao Suluo realized she shouldn’t beat around the bush. She stated, "Mandala Flower paired with Aconite..."

She slowly recited the prescription for the Powder for Anesthesia.

"This is the formula for the Powder for Anesthesia.

"When treating a patient, you can have them consume the Powder for Anesthesia to render them unconscious. Treating them afterward will alleviate their pain..."

The reason she brought this up was that, based on the memories she had searched through and the system’s knowledge, such a thing as the Powder for Anesthesia didn’t yet exist in the current Beast World.

Hearing these words, a subtle shift occurred in Gu Songlan’s expression. He had treated many Beastmen in the past. Countless patients couldn’t endure the pain, but there was no alternative; they could only grit their teeth and bear it. Some Beastmen even went as far as committing suicide because they couldn’t withstand the agony. He never imagined a prescription like this existed.

"The entire Mandala Flower plant is toxic; its fruits and seeds are the most venomous, followed by its young leaves," Gu Songlan noted.

Such a plant wouldn’t typically be used to cure sick Beastmen, but utilizing it to temporarily strip someone of their senses was indeed a viable approach. This prescription was incredibly ingenious.

When Gu Songlan looked at Qiao Suluo again, his gaze was much more serious. "When I checked this young man’s pulse and examined his body, I discovered his wings were broken. They originally couldn’t be restored, yet there were signs of life at the fractures. I had my doubts before, but it must have been your superb Medical Skill that allowed his severed wings to regenerate.

"Furthermore, the poison he was previously afflicted with was You Vine Enchanting Dew, a lethal toxin that was lost to time hundreds of years ago. There’s no antidote, yet a portion of the You Vine Enchanting Dew in his system was cured."

Hearing Gu Songlan explain all this, Qiao Suluo was deeply astonished. She hadn’t expected him to be able to discern all of this. No wonder the Medicine King Valley was so renowned; this Young Valley Master’s Medical Skill was truly formidable.

"It was Young Master Gu who saved my Beast Husband in time. Had you not, he might have been killed," she said.

Gu Songlan explained, "Someone poisoned him anew. It just so happened that this toxin, combined with the You Vine Enchanting Dew, were two deadly poisons that achieved the effect of fighting poison with poison. Because of that, I was able to use acupuncture to force the majority out of his system, though a portion still remains.

"To completely detoxify him, I still need to conduct further research.

"But looking at it now, you might have a better method."

Qiao Suluo said, "It will take time to completely rid him of the poison, but his current condition isn’t actually that severe. Why hasn’t he woken up yet?"

Gu Songlan fell silent for a moment before replying, "Perhaps it is because he himself does not wish to wake up.

"He doesn’t want to face certain things."

Hearing this, Qiao Suluo was confused. "Why?"

Seeing her baffled expression, Gu Songlan said, "You can ponder on why he doesn’t want to wake up.

"The one who tied the knot must be the one to untie it."
