Chapter 2582 - With Care for Each Blade of Grass
Chapter 2582 – With Care for Each Blade of Grass
The middle-aged Daoist, Zhen Yang, said seriously, “At present, none of the False Eternals of spacetime forbidden zones can enter the world. Under the circumstances, you’re unquestionably among the strongest people in the God Domain.
“We’re inviting you to join us because we want to borrow your prestige. We want to make sure that the Heavenly Court of the Five Sovereigns doesn’t dare to underestimate us.”
He was being quite forthright; he made no attempt to disguise his intentions.
Their goals were simple to understand. They wanted to borrow Su Yi’s prestige at the Jiuhua Dharma Assembly!
But Su Yi couldn’t help but shake his head slightly. “It’s not that I don’t want to, but I’m afraid that going with you would only hurt you.”
The group was briefly stunned, but then, Su Yi recounted the time he’d slapped Taishu Gong, the Celestial Polarity Great Sovereign.
Gasps arose on all sides. Others might not have known who Taishu Gong was, but how could Five Lightning Temple not have known?
He was one of the pillars of the Heavenly Court of the Five Sovereigns!
He was a rare, unparalleled powerhouse among False Eternals, and he occupied an incomparably lofty position in the Heavenly Court of the Five Sovereigns.
Who could have imagined that Su Yi had slapped him across the face several years prior? It was far too shocking.
And it was the Heavenly Court of the Five Sovereigns that had called for the Jiuhua Dharma Assembly. What would they think if Su Yi accompanied Five Lightning Temple there?
How would Taishu Gong, the Celestial Polarity Great Sovereign, feel about it?
“Of course, if you’re not worried about all that, I’ll naturally accompany you,” said Su Yi, cracking an uncharacteristic joke.
Zhen Yang, Zhi Shui, and the others exchanged glances. They couldn’t help but laugh bitterly. None of them brought it up again.
Su Yi and the Heaven-Swallowing Toad Ancestor bade farewell shortly after.
Hong Taiyu watched them fade away, then whispered, “Fellow Daoist Su might be proud and aloof, but his breadth of spirit and bearing are unique and unparalleled. It’s just a pity…”
“What’s a pity?” whispered Zhi Shui.
Hong Taiyu hesitated, then said, “He’s… embroiled in far too many disasters.”
The whole group fell silent. They understood Su Yi’s past accomplishments, and they knew that he’d been declared the common foe of every god and Buddha beneath the heavens a long time ago.
They also knew that many of the experts of the River of Destiny were targeting him.
Now that the Dark Days of Legend had arrived, Su Yi’s power of reincarnation and Epoch Spark were far more tempting than Fragments of Heaven’s Will.
All of this meant that more and more disasters were sure to befall him!
“Is it a pity? Not necessarily.” Zhen Yang shook his head. “So long as those disasters don’t crush him, he’s sure to use them as stepping stones to propel him higher and further!”
He paused, then murmured, “I actually rather hope that when the Battle for Order begins, Fellow Daoist Su emerges as the ultimate victor!”
“Is that possible?” Zhi Shui couldn’t help but ask.
“There’s at least a chance, isn’t there?” asked Zhen Yang.
The others exchanged glances, strange looks on their faces.
If Su Yi really managed to emerge victorious in the Battle for Order, it would be far too astonishing. It would be an absolutely groundbreaking accomplishment, an unprecedented miracle!
But could something like that really happen?
At the very least, neither the top experts of the River of Destiny nor the factions of the God Domain would agree.
Many of the factions of other spacetimes would strongly object, too!
……
“Brother Fuyou, I’ll brew your tea for you and work like a horse if need be. Come on! You really won’t reconsider?” pleaded the Heaven-Swallowing Toad Ancestor.
After leaving the Barren Mountains of Divine Calamity, Su Yi announced his plans to set off on his own. The Heaven-Swallowing Toad Ancestor was extremely reluctant to part ways.
“‘Work like a horse,’ huh? Yeah, right. You obviously just want to stick around for the free food and drink,” laughed Su Yi. “Hurry up and go!”
“Heh.” The Heaven-Swallowing Toad Ancestor grinned. “No one understands me better than you, Brother Fuyou! Alright, then. I’ll leave, for real this time. Take care of yourself.”
With that, he waved, turned, and left.
Su Yi watched the Heaven-Swallowing Toad Ancestor disappear over the horizon, then took out a jug of wine.
It wasn’t that he didn’t want to take his friend with him, but that he knew that doing so would put the Heaven-Swallowing Toad Ancestor into unpredictable peril!
By now, everyone knew that Su Yi had returned to the God Domain. Who knew how many enemies were watching his every move?
Given the circumstances, Su Yi would rather travel alone to avoid implicating the Heaven-Swallowing Toad Ancestor.
I’ll actually be interested to see which of my enemies jumps out in the open first, thought Su Yi. He’d already stepped onto a little flat boat, which carried him into the distance.
……
Su Yi spent the next few days like an aimless wanderer.
What did people mean when they called these dark, turbulent times?
In the past, Su Yi had only heard about the current situation secondhand; he hadn’t experienced it for himself.
Even his trip to the Barren Mountains of Divine Calamity was just about acquiring a Fragment of Heaven’s Will, that’s all.
Now, when he explored the world, he felt the Dark Days of Legend’s effects on a deep level.
Along the way, he saw bloodshed all over the place. Sword qi and saber light flew through the sky, and all that was once peaceful and prosperous had given way to chaos and upheaval.
Once bustling cities had been reduced to flattened, scorched earth. Ancient sects had been reduced to mass graveyards littered with corpses.
Even just rushing along, he happened upon dozens of battles.
Most ridiculous of all, most of the battles weren’t competitions for Fragments of Heaven’s Will. They were just looting!
That’s right. Looting!
They were like locusts, devouring each other’s forces, resources, and territory, only to be devoured by others in turn…
The law and order of the past had completely broken down.
The cruelest part of all this was that only those factions with at least one Master God at the helm were qualified to vie for Fragments of Heaven’s Will.
But the God Domain was endlessly vast, and such factions were few and far between.
The vast majority of factions could only go with the flow. They either became the fish on the chopping block or the butcher holding the knife.
In the past, the presence of top factions could at least keep things under control and maintain some semblance of order.
But now, even top factions struggled to defend themselves. How could they possibly have any energy left for other concerns?
Every day, more and more factions toppled, and countless living beings perished, and none suffered more than those at the bottom.
Fall asleep, and a battle between experts might well level the city before you woke up, killing you in an instant.
Try to travel, the aftermath of a fierce battle might well strike you down.
Sometimes, whole cities were destroyed, which in turn meant the deaths of hundreds of millions.
These were the Dark Days of Legend!
Beacon fires lit the skies, living beings suffered and died… Everywhere he looked, Su Yi saw blood-soaked visions of purgatory!
The loftiest and most powerful were wholeheartedly focused on acquiring Fragments of Heaven’s Will. How could they concern themselves with such things?
Those who wanted to change the situation were helpless to do so, and they struggled to even stay alive.
Bloodshed and disaster had thrown the world into disarray starting from the base. Darkness and upheaval had become the backdrop of these turbulent times.
No one was exempt. Who cared whether you were a god or an ant? Neither could remain bystanders now.
One night, Su Yi did a little quick math and discovered that he’d passed thirty-seven attempts at looting and seventy-nine battles big and small!
When gods and immortals fought, they burned mountains and boiled seas.
When Master Gods attacked, they could easily destroy vast stretches of heaven and earth.
Now that the Dark Days of Legend had arrived, there was no guarantee of safety even if you hid deep in the mountains and forests.
The world no longer knew peace!
Su Yi wasn’t a sage focused on the well-being of the whole world, but he still couldn’t help but be emotional about this.
He’d seen plenty of brutal battles and massacres in his day, and he’d participated in countless grand battles that rewrote the balance of power.
Nonetheless, it was hard to stay calm when he saw those struggling at the lowest levels of society dying without rhyme or reason.
As big as the world was, he still cherished each blade of grass.
How unfortunate were those innocents?
