First Immortal of the Sword

Chapter 2534 - First Traces of the Enemy

Chapter 2534 – First Traces of the Enemy

Supreme Fragments of Heavens of Heaven’s Will were incomparably rare, but so were first-class fragments. They were less than one in a thousand.

By now, Su Yi and his allies had gathered a dozen or so Fragments of Heaven’s Will, but they’d yet to find even a single first-class fragment!

But then, this was largely because they hadn’t been venturing outside their territory.

The world was in upheaval, and its elites and factions were vying for supremacy, resulting in numerous storms of bloodshed, but Su Yi and his allies weren’t participating. They were waiting for the results of the world’s competition to become clear.

By now, the natural disasters had died down, but the man-made disasters were intensifying. Given Su Yi and the others’ cultivation bases, they could surely compete in these turbulent times.

In other words, the time was ripe for them to venture outside!

“Brother Fuyou, why not seize this opportunity to attack the Western Paradise Spirit Mountains with us?” Wen Qingfeng was the first to step forth.

He was running out of patience.

An absolutely enormous number of Fragments of Heaven’s Will had scattered across the God Domain, but there was still nowhere near enough to go around!

The later they ventured out into the world, the harder it would be to gather Fragments of Heaven’s Will.

Su Yi shook his head slightly. “Ol’ Dipankara dared step forth even in these turbulent times. He wouldn’t have done so unless he had reason to be confident. Attacking him now would be most unwise.”

When elites vied for supremacy, there was no bigger taboo than putting all of one’s eggs into one basket.

Had Su Yi been alone, he actually wouldn’t have been afraid to attack the Western Paradise Spirit Mountains on his own.

But his fate was connected to that of numerous others. He naturally had to consider the bigger picture before taking action.

“I originally thought that, when the Dark Days of Legend arrived, our enemies would attack, one after another. Looking at it now, it’s clear that that isn’t the case at all,” sighed Wan Zitian. “Now that I think about it, it makes sense. From our enemies’ perspective, fighting over the Fragments of Heaven’s Will is far more urgent than fighting Brother Fuyou to the death.”

It sounded like he found the situation an awful pity.

They’d refrained from venturing into the world in part in hope that their prey would fall into their lap. They’d wanted to see if their enemies would take advantage of the chaos of the Dark Days of Legend to attack.

Unfortunately, their prey was too clever for that. Not one enemy had shown up.

Thus, Wen Qingfeng suggested going on the offensive.

“How about this? All of you can go out and explore freely.” Su Yi could tell that his old friends were hungry for Fragments of Heaven’s Will, so he promptly made a decision. “If you run into trouble, use a talisman to get in touch.”

The crowd exchanged glances, then shouted their approval.

That very day, Wen Qingfeng, Zang Wushu, and many of the other old monsters set off. They were leaving the Endless Ocean and returning to the Four Great Divine Continents to compete for good fortune.

Demon Ancestor Treasure Leaf, Yan Chizhen, and several others chose to remain behind, but they too left the island; they just limited their exploration to the Endless Ocean.

Even Mu Bai and Yi Chen, the juniors, longed to explore the outside world. Su Yi didn’t try to stop them, but he arranged for an old-timer to follow each of them.

That aside, he contacted the Qilin Trading Company and asked them to watch over Mu Bai and Yi Chen in secret.

Xi Ning left too. She’d stayed on Sunset Perch Island for years, but now that the Dark Days of Legend had arrived, she couldn’t help but worry about her family.

Su Yi saw her off personally, escorting her to the Southern Flame Divine Continent. Then, he arranged for the River Child and Luo Xuanji to accompany her, while he made his way back to Sunset Perch Island.

Just a few days later, Sunset Perch Island was all but abandoned. Su Yi had only Luo Qingdi, Wan Zitian, the Lord of Sleepless Nights, and a few others for company.

But Su Yi thought nothing of it.

As dangerous as these turbulent times were, he couldn’t possibly keep all his friends on Sunset Perch Island forever.

If they hid forever, never daring to explore, they’d struggle to make any further breakthroughs in their cultivation.

……

Su Yi spent the next stretch of time in seclusion. He was still tempering his heart.

His Heart Soul had taken shape, transforming his awareness of the myriad Daos of the heavens. He could sense their fundamental nature and perceive their deepest, most essential secrets.

As he repeatedly tempered his Heart Soul, his cultivation base silently transformed.

He thought back to the heart devil’s description of the Heart Soul’s secrets. Su Yi had to admit that Heart Souls were strong; it was as if he’d gained an all-seeing eye. It was inestimably useful in his cultivation.

The Heart Soul was even useful when combing through his cultivation. He could perceive the flaws and inadequacies of his cultivation base. This helped him know where to focus his efforts.

It was no wonder that his first incarnation’s heart devil had laughed and said that the Limitless Dao Lords of the Path of Eternity would go mad with jealousy if they learned that he’d condensed a Heart Soul while still in the Undying Realm.

The reason was simple. Few among them ever managed to condense Heart Souls of their own!

As Su Yi tempered his Heart Soul, he refined a second-class Fragment of Heaven’s Will. It was indeed a shocking treasure. It could directly boost one’s powers of the Grand Dao!

If he used it to temper his powers of reincarnation, he could increase their strength.

It was just a pity that second-class fragments didn’t have any obvious effect on Su Yi. They only made a subtle difference.

It would be great if I could gather a few first-class, or better yet, supreme Fragments of Heaven’s Will, thought Su Yi. But I needn’t be overly concerned about it, either. The Dark Days of Legend have only just begun, and not just anyone can find the Fragments of Heaven’s Will strewn across heaven and earth.

Not long ago, he’d received a report from the Qilin Trading Company. The whole report was about Fragments of Heaven’s Will.

According to the Qilin Trading Company’s analysis, the distribution of the Fragments of Heaven’s Will seemed random, but in truth, it had a traceable logic!

The power of the Laws gathered beneath the firmament had shattered, but the God Domain’s chaos source remained. That meant that, at least in the short term, the God Domain’s Laws hadn’t completely disappeared.

Most of the Fragments of Heaven’s Will had appeared in ancient stretches of chaos, like forbidden zones, blessed grounds, and hidden realms.

The Fragments of Heaven’s Will had fallen like rain, and rain fused into streams and lakes. Except to the fragments, the God Domain’s chaos source was the stream and lakes!

The higher a fragment’s level, the more likely it was to appear near the God Domain’s chaos source!

This analysis had inspired Su Yi. He didn’t even need to think to know where he’d find the most fragments. They were sure to gather near the now lifeless Central Divine Continent!

Because that was the heart of the God Domain, the place where the God Domain arose.

The Five Elements Altar, the manifestation of the God Domain’s chaos source, still stood on the Central Divine Continent’s Red Pine Mountain.

That meant that all of the God Domain’s top factions would be eyeing the Central Divine Continent hungrily!

But Su Yi wouldn’t go there anytime soon. He trusted Lin Jinghong’s judgment, and prior to the Dark Days of Legend, she’d sent him a letter warning him not to head straight there even after the Dark Days of Legend arrived.

It was too dangerous!

Su Yi predicted that the first group to rush to the Central Divine Continent would leave battered and bloodied… assuming they ever left at all!

Su Yi had even asked the Qilin Trading Company to pay attention to any developments in the Central Divine Continent to confirm this hypothesis.

Half a month later.

Su Yi was deep in seclusion when he suddenly opened his eyes.

Practically simultaneously, Luo Qingdi’s voice emanated from beyond his cultivation grounds. “Fellow Daoist Su, something urgent happened. I had no choice but to disrupt your seclusion.”

Su Yi rose, then exited the grotto.

“Fellow Daoist Wan is injured! It’s bad, too!” Luo Qingdi said gravely.

Su Yi’s eyes narrowed. “Where is he?”

“Come with me,” said Luo Qingdi. He led Su Yi to a hall built on Sunset Perch Island.

This was where he and the other old-timers often gathered and had discussions.

Wan Zitian sat limply in a chair. His face was pallid, and his vital energy was in disarray. His clothes were tattered in numerous places.

Most striking of all was the fist-sized, bloody hole through the left side of his chest. It went all the way through the back.

Had the hole been just a little closer to the center, it would have destroyed his heart, killing him!

“Brother Fuyou…” When he saw Su Yi, Wan Zitian opened his eyes with great difficulty. He said hoarsely, “You have to be careful…. The factions of other spacetimes have appeared from within… the three spacetime forbidden zones… of the Endless Ocean.”

His voice started and stopped. He seemed incomparably feeble.

When Su Yi saw this, his brow furrowed.

Wan Zitian had long since touched the threshold of destiny. In the present day, even your average Nine-Tribulation Master God was no match for him.

Yet now, he was this badly injured!

“Did someone from one of the three Daoist Courts of the Epoch of Sumeru hurt you?” Su Yi walked up to examine Wan Zitian’s injuries.

Several years ago, when Su Yi returned to Sunset Perch Island, the three Daoist Courts had held a Sunset Perch Dao Assembly here.

It was during the assembly that Su Yi slew several experts of the Endless Ocean’s three spacetime forbidden zones.

The three spacetime forbidden zones were called Ravening Wolf, Blue Sparrow, and Flying Serpent respectfully. Each belonged to a faction from the Epoch of Sumeru, another spacetime.

Su Yi naturally hadn’t forgotten about this.

“That’s right,” said Wan Zitian. “Whatever you do… you must be careful. Their ranks… include numerous old-timers even stronger than me…”

Su Yi patted him on the shoulder. “Don’t worry about it. Just leave everything to me.”

He looked at Luo Qingdi. “Brother Luo, look after Ol’ Wan for me.”

Luo Qingdi nodded.

It was then that the Lord of Sleepless Nights suddenly called out from beyond the hall. “Brother Fuyou, numerous unfamiliar figures are shooting toward Sunset Perch Island!”
