Chapter 2323 - The Grand Dao of Ashen Darkness
Chapter 2323 – The Grand Dao of Ashen Darkness
Master Cloud Refiner and the other old monsters were stunned, too.
It was immediately obvious to them that the speaker was Celestial Venerate Zhou Ye!
Just as they’d thought, those apprentice siblings were his disciples!
“Fellow Daoist Su, that damned fatty already told me all about you.” That hoarse, aged voice rang out once more. “Do three things for me, and I won’t just grant you an opportunity to contemplate the Flame of Supreme Emergence. I’ll throw in a stalk of Flying Light Grass, too.”
The tall young man and the feeble young woman were stunned. Master’s always been so temperamental, so why is he suddenly acting so agreeable?
Master Cloud Refiner and the others had looks on their faces that said, “Just as I thought. Celestial Venerate Zhou Ye really won’t let Su Yi acquire the Flame so easily.”
“Please, speak directly,” said Su Yi.
“Straightforward, huh? Very well.” That aged voice laughed. “First, my youngest disciple is the most extraordinary talent for cultivation in the entire Age of Supreme Emergence. If she hadn’t been born just as our age neared its end, she’d have long since had an opportunity to bring order to the God Domain, prove her Dao, and stand atop the River of Destiny.
“And you, Fellow Daoist Su, control the power of reincarnation. You too are a potential Bringer of Order. If you wouldn’t mind, please duel my young disciple! Win or lose, you’ll have fulfilled the first of my three conditions.”
Su Yi was stunned. This again?
He promptly said, “I agreed to fight her on our way here. I naturally won’t refuse now.”
“Excellent!” said that hoarse voice. “I’ll tell you my second request after you’ve fought. Rest assured that I’m not simply keeping you in suspense. The second condition involves your entrance to Sundial City.”
Su Yi pondered briefly, then agreed. “Very well.”
He looked at the young woman in plain undyed clothing. “How would you like to duel?”
She looked as thin and feeble as a blade of grass, seemingly so flimsy that the slightest wind could break her.
But in the face of Su Yi’s question, she said directly, “A competition of our powers of the Grand Dao, without external treasures or powers!”
As she spoke, an indescribable expression appeared on her pallid, sickly face. Her eyes were instantly bright and clear.
Her whole presence transformed.
Dark, mysterious firelight seemingly as deep as an abyss emanated from her skin, and countless scorch marks appeared throughout the surrounding skies.
Most terrifying of all, the ground melted beneath her feet, and when the wind blew past, the earth disintegrated into ash and scattered.
The girl’s eyebrows were as sharp as knives, and her little face was utterly cold and solemn, like an unwavering, heartless god of death!
A series of gasps arose in the distance.
The young woman’s aura of the Grand Dao seemed dark and mysterious, but in truth, it was utterly tyrannical and taboo, and it brimmed with the power to burn all Daos!
“How could such power be possible for a Creation Realm cultivator? She seems more terrifying than even some long-established Undying Realm Master Gods!” Hua Yin exclaimed from atop his white deer.
“You can’t judge Celestial Venerate Zhou Ye’s chosen Bringer of Order by her cultivation base!” sighed Master Cloud Refiner. “Who knows how much time might pass before the next such genius appears?”
The other old monsters struggled to calm themselves.
Earlier, they really had severely underestimated the young woman’s strength. They’d never even considered that her divine majesty would be so taboo and imposing when she circulated her cultivation base.
How was this a “sickly little lass”? She now seemed more like a cold, aloof goddess of death!
Her cold, indifferent gaze made even some of the old monsters feel an inexplicable chill.
“Be careful,” said Wan Zitian. He patted Su Yi on the shoulder, then moved further away.
He was just as astonished by the young woman’s imposing presence as the others.
However, he knew that although his Brother Fuyou hadn’t been particularly interested in fighting her earlier, this was sure to have changed his mind!
Just as he expected, Su Yi’s spirits soared. “Not bad. Really not bad.”
There was no disguising the admiration in his voice.
He and the young woman were the same type of person. She might have looked like a “mere” Limit Realm cultivator, but the path she sought and her powers of the Grand Dao made her completely different from others of the same level.
You really couldn’t judge her by her cultivation base!
“Fellow Daoist Su, you’d best be careful,” said the stalwart young man. “My junior apprentice sister’s Grand Dao of Ashen Darkness is unsurpassed. It originates from the River of Destiny! It can burn cause and effect and melt away karmic ties. It’s incomparably wondrous! It can burn even useless Master Gods to ash!”
The Grand Dao of Ashen Darkness! A Dao capable of burning cause and effect and melting away karmic ties!!
This description startled the old monsters, no exceptions. All of them were stunned.
Karmic power already involved the workings of destiny. It was already incomparably taboo.
Yet the young woman’s Grand Dao of Ashen Darkness could burn even karma itself. It was obvious how taboo it was.
Su Yi looked gratified. “No need for the warning. I’ll naturally fight her seriously.”
The depths of his gaze lit up. She had indeed ignited his will to fight.
Setting aside his power of reincarnation, his Grand Dao of Profound Ruin could sever karmic ties and restrict fate. Su Yi thus understood how taboo the Grand Dao of Ashen Darkness was better than anyone.
“Fellow Daoist, thank you for agreeing to duel me. Please, don’t hold back,” the young woman said calmly.
Heaven and earth were stifled. Everything was silent on all sides.
All eyes were focused on the two combatants.
Unlike his opponent, Su Yi’s aura was as calm as ever. It hadn’t changed a bit.
But no one would dare to underestimate him!
This was a clash between Bringers of Order. Such duels were just too rare and too terrifying.
It was obvious to all of them that millions of years might pass between such duels!
“That goes for you, too,” said Su Yi. “When we fight, you should give it your all, just as you would in a true fight to the death. If you treat it as a mere spar, you’ll miss out on tempering yourself through a life-and-death struggle.”
He rose to his full height, his sleeves billowing even in the absence of wind and his robes dancing around him.
Formless, mysterious sword intent surged silently around his tall, upright figure.
Crack!
The sky split in all directions as countless perfectly straight rifts tore open, seemingly ripped apart by countless streaks of sword qi.
Indescribable force silently emanated from Su Yi and swept outward.
Everyone couldn’t help but pay attention.
But it was then that——
Boom!
Su Yi and the young woman attacked, practically simultaneously.
The young woman flipped her palm, and a wisp of dark flame condensed into a burning scythe. It was fully ten feet long, and its edge surged with all-encompassing, searing, destructive power.
She was thin and frail, far shorter than her weapon, but that only made her scythe seem all the stranger, colder, and more tyrannical.
When her feet pressed off against the ground…
The sky caught ablaze on all sides. Endless dark light blanketed heaven and earth. It was as if the curtain of night had descended, then caught on fire.
The young woman, meanwhile, flashed through the air like lightning and attacked explosively.
Boom!!
The flaming scythe swung, overturning heaven and earth and incinerating all Daos. It seemed intent on severing all things and burning them into ash.
Su Yi, meanwhile, stretched out his long, slender right hand, then slashed as if swinging a sword.
It was an incomparably simple strike, like the most basic of movement drills. It was just a simple slash without subtlety or transformation.
Yet this simple strike cleaved into the flaming scythe with incomparable accuracy.
Clang!!
When they clashed, the entire stretch of heaven and earth collapsed. Countless dark flames swept out like a windstorm. All of creation withered and burned.
It was visible to the naked eye. As that current of destructive power spread, it destroyed everything in its path!
Bang!!
Both Su Yi and his opponent took several steps backward.
Then, without any prior discussion, both of them attacked once more.
In an instant, they’d clashed over one hundred times.
Every strike was incomparably tyrannical and swift, force against force. It was like a fierce duel between an unparalleled god of the sword and a dark goddess of death. They rose higher and higher, into the nine heavens, covering three hundred thousand feet of sky. Their combat was so fierce as to overturn heaven and earth, and even the sun and moon lost their light.
Master Cloud Refiner and the others watched from afar eyes wide and jaws hanging slack. Many of them felt chills course down their spines.
It wasn’t that they hadn’t seen the world before, but that they’d never seen two gods of the Limit Realm display such heaven-defying, taboo power!
“This is no different from a clash between Five-Tribulation Master Gods!” murmured Hua Yin.
Terrifying! Just too terrifying!
If they hadn’t seen it with their own eyes, they would never have believed that a clash between Mid-Rank Gods could be so unreasonably fierce.
“Brother Fuyou has finally run into another monster of his level,” sighed Wan Zitian.
The Mid-Rank Gods of the present day had long since ceased to be Su Yi’s opponents. Killing Six-Tribulation Master Gods was no longer difficult for Su Yi.
Yet now, a fellow Limit Realm cultivator was capable of competing with him. If the experts of the God Domain were here to see this, their jaws might well fall off from sheer fright!
The stalwart young man was visibly impressed. “No wonder Master was so dead set on having her spar with Su Yi… So, he’s a monster, too…”
He knew better than just about anyone how incredible his junior apprentice sister was. Even their master said he’d never seen another like her before!
Yet Su Yi, a cultivator of the same level, was capable of fighting her!
It was then that the stalwart young man finally changed his opinion of Su Yi.
Heaven and earth were thrown into upheaval. Sometimes, sword qi threw it into disarray. Other times, dark flames incinerated it.
As Su Yi and the young woman clashed with ever greater intensity, the old monsters kept having to move further and further away.
There was nothing for it. The aftermath of the battle was just too terrifying. It wasn’t enough to hurt the old monsters, but they were worried they’d disrupt the duel.
“Fellow Daoist Su, it doesn’t seem like you’re using the power of reincarnation,” the young woman said amidst the fierce combat. She sounded a bit confused.
He isn’t using the power of reincarnation? The onlookers were stunned.
“That’s right. I seek the Dao of the Sword. I strive to fuse all of the myriad Daos of the heavens into my weapon. My sword can cut through all Daos, and manifest all Daos toward my own ends,” Su Yi said forthrightly. “If you can force me to use the power of reincarnation, I naturally wouldn’t mind letting you see it.”
The onlookers were in uproar.
Who could fail to realize the implications? The young woman’s current strength wasn’t enough to warrant the power of reincarnation!
