Fated To Three, And I Broke Them All
Chapter 420-Body Heat And The Hot Alpha King
Verity:
My jaw nearly hit the floor.
I had thought I would have time to present everything I’d prepared for the meeting at the office.
Then Ragnar would tell me whether someone else had come up with a better idea, and if not, we would leave afterward.
But now he wanted me ready in ten minutes.
I didn’t even have time to take care of the heat still burning through my body.
Fuck.
I had to get ready for this trip, pack a bag, and do everything else in ten minutes.
And then I had to get into the same car with my two mates’ brother, and this unbearable fucking heat still raging inside me.
Well, ten minutes were ten minutes, which meant he was probably already halfway here.
I still didn’t understand why everything had suddenly become so urgent, or why he had decided we needed to leave right now.
Then I checked my phone and saw the emails.
He had informed me almost two hours ago that there had been a change of plans.
The deal they were going to make couldn’t wait.
I clenched my fists and stomped into my bedroom, grabbing the bag I always kept ready for work trips. I only needed to replace a few things.
But my mind kept drifting elsewhere.
I needed a shower.
A really quick one.
At least maybe it would calm some of the heat still burning through my body. Maybe it would finally go away.
And once I was sitting with Ragnar, of course it would.
He would be a huge fucking turnoff anyway.
After a lot of convincing myself, I dressed all in black.
I pulled on baggy jeans and a black sweater, trying to cover as much skin as possible, as if that would change anything.
It wasn’t Ragnar who was in heat.
I was.
Still, I swallowed down every thought, grabbed the handle of my wheeled bag, and headed for the front door.
The moment I stepped outside and turned to lock it, his car pulled up.
I took a deep breath and had barely made it off the porch when I looked up and saw Mrs. Baker standing behind her window, giggling.
She had probably watched all the brothers come here one by one.
I gave her a very cheeky grin, then immediately wiped it off my face, almost like a quick ha-ha before I turned away.
Then I headed toward the car.
I had thought that the moment I got into the car, my body would go completely back to normal.
I wouldn’t feel what I had been feeling before.
The driver got out and placed my bags in the trunk while I settled into the seat.
But the moment I did, a familiar scent hit my nostrils, and what I had expected didn’t happen.
I didn’t feel disgusted.
I didn’t feel like I wanted to throw up.
In fact, it was quite the opposite.
His scent, his cologne, smelled so good.
Then there was the fact that he was dressed completely differently today.
He wore a black high-neck sweater with a black jacket and black jeans, probably because he wanted to be more comfortable.
His hair was tied half up in a bun, with the rest of the strands left loose.
His eyes were lowered to the laptop resting on one of his thighs.
That sight alone was enough.
His thigh looked wide and muscular.
How I knew that, I wasn’t sure.
I immediately turned my face away and took a deep breath, trying to calm myself and settle my nerves.
It was going to be a long journey, and I was hoping that somewhere along the way, he would start talking so the heat in my body would finally fade.
"You finished your assignment for the project?" he asked.
The raw roughness of his voice made me clutch the file in my hand more tightly.
"Mm-hmm," I replied. "I finished it a while ago."
"Show me," he said, holding out his hand without looking away from the laptop.
I turned toward him.
Usually, I would scoot to the side and stare out the window, but it seemed this particular journey was going to be even harder because he actually wanted to communicate.
Weirdly enough, his voice didn’t put me off immediately.
Still, I hoped the conversation would eventually lead to him becoming annoyed, like he usually did.
I lifted the file and placed it in his hand.
He pulled it back and began going through it.
While he looked down, my eyes shamelessly traveled over his face.
His cheekbones were high, and even though he had a little beard, I could still see how sharp his jawline was.
His eyes were narrowed, his eyebrows thick and bushy, but his eyelashes were so long they almost looked fake.
Then I tilted my head slightly and looked at his lips.
They were naturally pink with a hint of red.
His cheeks were turning red too.
He must have been feeling cold.
Then my eyes slowly moved toward his neck.
Thankfully, he had the high-neck sweater on, but the little skin I could see was so pale.
I tilted my head again, and this time I noticed his fingers.
They were so big and bony.
Imagine them going inside...
I immediately cut off the thought and jolted.
He only lifted his eyes to me without moving his head.
"You okay?" he asked in a low, grumpy voice, though there was a slight sexy edge to it.
"Yeah. I’m a little under the weather," I replied, finally turning all the way back to my side and looking out the window as I squeezed myself into the corner of the seat.
"Are you cold?" he asked.
I bit my bottom lip, not knowing what to say.
"Come here."
For a second, it felt like my heart stopped in my chest.
I snapped my head toward him, my eyes widening.
He looked back at me in confusion, clearly wondering why I was behaving so strangely.
"You want me to do what?" I asked, pointing at myself and then at him.
His eyes narrowed slightly before he pointed at the screen.
"I want to show you something," he mumbled, sounding almost confused by what I had thought he meant.
That was when it hit me.
I was losing my mind.
Oh, dear Moon Goddess, save me from embarrassing myself like I always do in front of him.
