Fated To Three, And I Broke Them All

Chapter 384-Was About To Make Her Mine

Theodore:

I had already given Verity the good news.

Now all we had to do was freshen up, meet up, and talk to my brothers about her.

I had already decided that I would convince them somehow.

I mean, Jaguar would be easy. I was pretty sure he wouldn’t care much.

Ragnar was the problem.

But with the way things had been going, I was starting to believe even Ragnar wouldn’t have much of an issue with it.

After all, Gigi was a victim too, wasn’t she?

Whether anyone wanted to admit it or not, Verity had been wronged as well.

She had been brutally punished for her brother’s mistakes.

That gave me hope.

Once I was ready, I left my room to go talk to my brothers.

That was when Verity started calling me.

I smiled, imagining her getting impatient.

Of course she was anxiously waiting. Maybe I shouldn’t have told her anything beforehand.

"Hello? Can you wait a little? We haven’t even sat down yet," I answered with a quiet laugh.

But the heavy breathing on the other end immediately caught my attention.

"Verity? Are you okay?" I asked, slowing my steps.

Jaguar appeared down the hall, frowning at me.

"Where are you going? Come on. Ragnar’s waiting for us," he called.

I gestured for him to wait. Jaguar didn’t even know what we were supposed to be discussing yet.

Then Verity finally spoke.

"My body... it’s in pain."

Goosebumps rose across my skin.

My eyes immediately met Jaguar’s, and he must have seen something in my expression because his face changed too.

"It’s Verity. I think she’s having a transition again."

That was all I had to say.

Before I could even start running, Jaguar took off ahead of me.

I wasn’t far behind.

By the time I reached Verity’s wing, he had already rushed into her room.

When I entered, I found Verity sitting near the edge of the bed, clutching her chest with both hands and crying out in pain.

"This pain... it’s so weird," she breathed, her voice shaky and strained.

My chest tightened at the sound of her. It was almost as if I could feel her pain myself.

"What is happening to her? Why does she keep getting these pains without transitioning?" I asked, looking at Jaguar.

He took Verity’s hand and helped her up.

"We need to get her into something cold." He stopped abruptly and touched her. "Wait. Her body isn’t hot yet."

He immediately abandoned the idea of putting her in cold water.

"It’s weird. It’s a different kind of pain this time," Verity complained.

"Okay, then what do we do? Should we take her to the woods and see if she can transition there?" I asked.

Jaguar shrugged, but then his head suddenly turned toward the doorway and his entire posture stiffened.

I followed his gaze.

Ragnar stood there.

He must have seen us rushing down the hall and followed us.

"What happened?" Ragnar asked in the driest tone imaginable.

"I think she might transition," I explained.

Ragnar walked over and silently studied Verity for a moment.

"She’ll be fine," he muttered. "I think her wolf doesn’t want to come out."

His voice was calm, but I could see the tension in his body. The veins in his arms stood out, his muscles rigid.

Typical Ragnar.

He would never openly show that he was worried about someone unless it was Gigi or one of us.

"I think you two should take her to the woods," he added in the same flat tone. "Maybe she’ll transition there."

"No. I’m not getting up," Verity protested, shaking her head.

"Why not? Do you want to keep sitting here in pain?" Ragnar asked, annoyance sharpening his voice.

That alone was enough to make me notice.

My brother rarely allowed concern for anyone to show in his voice.

The fact that he was still standing there, waiting to see what we were going to do with her, said more than he probably realized.

He cared about what happened to Verity.

And there was an obvious reason for that.

He knew I cared about her.

We brothers had always been protective of one another’s mates.

That was enough for me to understand.

"Maybe she’ll transition on the full moon. I mean, it’s only two days away. She has to transition then," Jaguar suggested.

I nodded, my gaze drifting slowly toward Verity.

Then a crazy thought hit me.

It was ridiculous, really, but none of us brothers had found our mates yet.

Before, whenever a full moon approached, I used to get hopeful.

There had even been one full moon when I’d met a complete stranger at the mate ball.

She had disappeared halfway through the night and I’d never seen her again.

Even after that, it wasn’t as though we’d stopped thinking about finding our mates whenever another full moon came around.

So what if, in some crazy twist of fate, I found mine this time?

I didn’t know why the thought suddenly entered my head while I was looking at Verity.

My heart always seemed to beat harder around her.

"I should rest," Verity murmured.

I reached for her hand and helped her to her feet while Jaguar supported her from the other side.

For a brief moment, I caught Jaguar smiling at her.

Verity gave him a small nod in return.

Maybe I was just being jealous, but there was something oddly familiar about the interaction.

Then I noticed Jaguar rubbing his thumb across the back of her hand.

She didn’t pull away.

Huh.

That was strange.

Together, we helped her onto the bed and pulled the covers over her.

"Call us if anything happens, okay?" I told her, placing her phone within reach before leaving the room with my brothers.

"Maybe you two should take her to the woods on the full moon, after the event. See if she transitions," Ragnar suggested quietly.

"Yeah, I’ll take her," I volunteered, trying to sound casual.

"Um, it’s fine if you can’t. I’ll do it," Jaguar cut in.

Ragnar looked at him, then at me, before pointing at both of us.

"You’ll both take her to the woods."

There was an unmistakable authority in his voice.

"And when you’re done, come back and report to me. About her wolf," he added before walking away.

Jaguar and I remained standing in the hallway, staring at each other.

It was almost as if we both understood exactly what Ragnar was doing.

And, at the same time, neither of us did.
