Fated love: the unwanted bride
Chapter 2738: Cultivating Peace of Mind, Unconcerned with Worldly Affairs
Seeing these children, Jasmine Yale felt a warmth in her eyes. They were very young, varied in age, some in their teens, some only two or three years old.
The clothes these children wore were also very worn and dirty, and some still had mud on their hands.
But the children’s eyes were especially clear, like lake water, gazing curiously at Jasmine. Some even reached out to her.
Jasmine Yale touched her pocket, finding some candies meant for Little Clementine, and handed them all out to the children.
These children had never tasted candy before, and they scrambled for it like crazy.
"Teacher Yale, the children here are a bit hard to manage, but they are very kind. Don’t be intimidated by them," the principal explained.
"The children are all quite nice. I will teach them well."
"Have you taught before?"
"I worked part-time in college."
"Oh, water isn’t an issue here, but the electricity goes out often. When it does, you can find help from me or my wife."
"I can adapt."
"My wife has nothing much to do usually. When you’re busy, you can leave your daughter with her. She loves children."
"Okay." Jasmine Yale took note of everything.
The principal continued to show her around.
A bit further from the village, atop a hill, was a small temple occupied by a few old monks who were dedicated to meditation and uninvolved in worldly affairs.
The temple was filled with ginkgo trees, draping the entire place in a golden hue. From afar, it looked like a heavenly palace or a mirage, always giving off an unreal aura.
Jasmine Yale took a deep breath, looking up at the red walls and dark tiles of the temple, watching the old monks doze under the trees.
Sunlight poured down from the sky, the broken jade-like rays lazily casting on the temple and Green Peak Village, serene and peaceful. Bells at the edge of the eaves chimed with a "ding ding," their ethereal sound spreading with the wind.
She never expected in her lifetime to settle in such a quiet place; she liked it here very much.
"Not many people come to the temple. These few old monks are the only ones keeping it, and once they pass, there will be no one left," Principal Warner explained.
"The fruit trees are beautiful and laden with fruit," Jasmine Yale pointed.
It’s harvest season, and unexpectedly, there were fruit trees everywhere. The ripe persimmons looked like red lanterns.
"Oh, that’s one benefit of the village. There’s all kinds of fruit, and no one uses pesticides or fertilizers."
"Can you just eat them freely?"
"That’s right. If you want something, just help yourself, haha."
Jasmine Yale thought if she had grown up in a place like this, she would have been overjoyed.
When she was young, she loved climbing trees, picking fruit, and flowers.
Before she was eight, her mother didn’t manage her much, but after moving to the Cheney Residence at eight, rules were strict, and she had to play in secret.
"Teacher Yale, as you can see, the village isn’t big. If one day you get lost, just call me. I’m usually around."
"I’ve noted that."
"It’s best not to go up the mountain; there are wild animals, mainly snakes, which are very dangerous."
"Okay."
"That’s about it. If you’re tired, Teacher Yale, you can head back to rest. Come to my house for dinner tonight," the principal invited warmly.
"I’ll spend some time getting to know the children. I’ll start teaching tomorrow."
"Do you want to take a few days off first? You’ve just arrived and aren’t familiar yet."
"It’s not a big problem. I’ll arrange the courses tonight and show them to you, Principal, tomorrow."
"The children are hard to manage, and their ages vary a lot. It’s going to be tough for you."
