Fated love: the unwanted bride
Chapter 2726: Everything Is Over
"Let’s keep our voices down. Let’s pretend we don’t know anything about this. The Janus Family is very wealthy, and we can’t afford to provoke them. Once this news gets out, we’ll all be dismissed."
"Yes, yes, let’s act like we know nothing."
A group of nurses whispered among themselves, none of them noticing Sylvan Cheney.
Sylvan pretended not to hear, let out a cold laugh, and walked towards the nursery.
"Wah, wah..." As he approached, he heard the loud cries of a baby.
He pushed open the door, where a female doctor and a maternity nurse were trying to soothe the child, while the little girl in the swaddle was crying so hard her face was bright red.
Sylvan’s gaze fell on the little girl’s face. She looked quite like Erin Janus—a heart-shaped face, a high nose, and thin lips—except her blonde hair was particularly striking.
The doctor, seeing Sylvan, quickly said, "Mr. Evan, you... are here."
Her face showed some embarrassment, not even knowing what to say to Sylvan or whether she should hand the child to him.
This child... clearly wasn’t Mr. Evan’s own!
Sylvan stared at the little girl for a long time.
The little girl kept crying, moving her hands around.
Sylvan liked Little Clementine very much and thought he didn’t mind children. However, when he saw this little girl, he had no desire to hold her, and his heart was void of any ripple.
He even frowned.
It seemed he didn’t like children as much as he imagined.
He didn’t even know why he felt this way. It was merely a child after all.
Besides, the child was quite good-looking, with blonde hair and blue eyes, like a doll.
The doctor approached him and finally spoke, "Mr. Evan, would you like to hold her? Although babies tend to cry, she’s quite adorable, and this little girl is really pretty."
Sylvan’s brow did not relax. He took one look at the little girl but didn’t reach out.
He really didn’t like this child much.
The doctor grew even more embarrassed and stopped speaking, just pretending to focus on soothing the child.
This little girl’s face bore no trace of Eastern heritage, aside from the slightest hint of mixed-race traits in her facial outline. From afar, she looked like an American child.
"Erin is very out of control, you’d better find a doctor to manage her," Sylvan said indifferently.
"Is that so? I’ve got someone watching over her. Her emotions were indeed out of control; she refused to give birth in the delivery room, which was very dangerous. Later, we administered anesthesia and performed a C-section. Fortunately, both mother and daughter are safe."
Sylvan said nothing. Only the child’s cries filled the room.
"Mr. Evan, don’t worry. I’ll call the other doctors immediately to give Miss Janus a sedative. In her current state, she needs someone attentive by her side to prevent postpartum depression. Besides, she doesn’t seem to like this child much. My suggestion is that it’s best for you to take care of this child for now, and not let her near Miss Janus."
"Discuss these matters with Kieran. You don’t need to tell me."
"Oh, okay."
After saying this, Sylvan glanced at the little girl once more, turned, and left the nursery.
The group of chatting nurses had already left, and the surroundings were silent.
Sylvan walked alone down the corridor, the overhead lights stretching his shadow long and lone.
The rain outside was still falling, at this moment marking the deepest and most serene time of the day.
The sound of the rain and the silence of the corridor formed a stark contrast.
However, everything was over.
