Uncertain how many cigarettes he had smoked, his subordinate knocked on the door.

Sylvan Cheney rolled down the car window. "What is it?"

"Sir, it’s me."

Sylvan saw that it was the spy he had sent out; he unlocked the car door and let him in.

The man carried the cold from outside, and as he sat down, he blew on his hands and handed Sylvan a box.

"It took quite an effort to retrieve it. The auction house had long since sold the ring for over a million. The intermediary sold it to a knowledgeable American, passing through many hands, and I traced it back." The man still gasped for breath, "Spent ten million to get it back from the last person. I don’t understand jewelry, but you insisted on buying it back."

The man thought this price was unreasonable—just a regular ring, yet worth ten million? He couldn’t comprehend the world of the wealthy.

However, those who handled it said the ring’s quality was top-notch, the jewel unique, meticulously cut, and expertly designed.

Not understanding the trade, he couldn’t see why, but since Sylvan wanted it, he bought it back.

Sylvan took the box and opened it.

Inside the box lay a dazzling ring quietly. The ring featured the Blue Demoness flower, its color serene, emanating a tranquil, gentle glow.

The Blue Demoness was incredibly realistic, each petal finely polished and crafted. The craftsmanship and design intricacies were apparent even without a close look.

Sylvan picked up the ring, observing it in his hand.

In the cold, dim car light, the ring looked indescribably beautiful.

This was his ring.

"Sir, any other instructions? I’ve stationed people to watch over those fishermen; there won’t be any mistakes."

"No need to watch them, release them."

"Ah? Alright, understood."

"You go ahead. I’ll call you if there’s anything."

"Understood, sir."

The man, not yet comfortably seated, heard Sylvan’s command, so he picked up his umbrella and opened the car door to leave.

Soon, his figure disappeared into the rain.

Sylvan stared at the diamond ring for a long time, his gaze fixed on the beautiful Blue Demoness.

After a while, he turned off the car light and put the ring in his pocket, not looking at it again.

He lit a cigarette, held it between his fingers. Smoke swirled inside the car, but his heart remained unusually calm and unperturbed.

In the early hours, the rain lessened, turning from a torrential downpour to a light drizzle.

Sylvan felt drowsy and closed his eyes to rest.

Weak light shone on his face, accentuating the sharp contours of his features, his nose prominent, eyelashes long.

At this moment, he felt relaxed, the most at ease in the past months, even his heartbeat slowed considerably.

Things would now be easier; twenty years in prison—no more need to handle the complexities of scheming or calculate against anyone. He could relinquish all responsibility for the rest of his life, living it alone.

As he slept, he neither dreamed nor was disturbed, except for a vague pain where his heart lay.

A damaged heart could never match a complete one; each beat came with a sense of pain.

Not far away, to the delivery room.

Kieran Janus paced outside, anxiously walking back and forth.

Soon a doctor emerged, glanced at him, "President Janus, Mr. Evan isn’t here?"

"No." Kieran’s face was cold, he snorted lightly.

"Then please sign here." The doctor handed Kieran a stack of documents.
