Erin Janus was still hesitating.

The doctor said, "You really don’t need to worry. You’re our VIP client. All the equipment, doctors, and nurses are top-notch. It won’t hurt much, and after giving birth, there’s someone to care for you. You and the child won’t face any risks."

Sylvan Cheney spoke up, "How long until the baby is born?"

"I looked at the ultrasound. Considering Ms. Alice’s current situation, at most a week."

"From tonight, we’ll stay in the hospital," Sylvan decided, "I’ll assign more staff to take good care of her."

Erin Janus held Sylvan Cheney’s arm, smiling sweetly, "Honey, I’m so nervous... Staying in the hospital is okay, but can you come every day for the next few days until I give birth?"

"I’ll come."

Erin Janus was overjoyed, "That’s wonderful."

The doctor also smiled, "Ms. Alice, your husband is really good to you, coming over personally even in such heavy rain tonight."

"Let’s handle the admission procedures," Sylvan said.

"Sure, I’ll assist you with it."

"Save the best room in the hospital for me. I’ve heard your hospital has separate little villas, with yards, by the lakeside. I want to stay there," Erin Janus coquettishly said.

"Certainly." The doctor didn’t mention the price—those things were trivial for Ms. Alice.

"Can I go to rest now?"

"Yes, please wait a moment. Someone will take you there soon."

Erin Janus was in a good mood.

Even though it was raining outside, she was delighted, her spirits were high.

...

That night, the rain never ceased.

Erin Janus smoothly moved into the hospital’s most luxurious suite, with a dedicated nurse to care for her, all very experienced in childbirth.

The scenery there was quite nice; opening the window revealed a vast expanse of pale blue lake water, with particularly beautiful landscapes and exceptionally good air quality.

The suite was spacious and bright, with complete supplies for both the mother and the baby.

Every day, three meals were planned by a nutritionist, keeping both Erin Janus’s weight and the child’s controlled within an ideal range, eliminating concerns about post-pregnancy figure changes or stretch marks.

The suite had a room prepared for Sylvan Cheney, but he didn’t stay, and drove back that evening.

Rainy weather made the roads slippery.

Halfway through driving, Sylvan Cheney felt a splitting headache, and his heartbeat began to race.

In this kind of weather, accidents are prone to happen. He didn’t continue driving and parked the car by the roadside.

He took a painkiller from the medicine box and swallowed it.

He hadn’t drunk today, yet his mind was blank, profoundly muddled, remembering nothing, only feeling the pain.

Recently, the pain in his head and chest had been intense, mixed with traces of fear and unease.

He couldn’t clarify where these feelings stemmed from, but they were particularly strong, as if a piece of his heart was missing, blood flowing backward, the pain never ceasing.

Several times, this feeling even interfered with his ability to think normally, wreaking havoc on his life.

Sylvan Cheney didn’t drive further. He parked the car by the roadside, closed his eyes, and listened to the sound of the rain outside.

Long and short.

Each sound entered his ear, like drumbeats, pounding on his chest.

His already incomplete heart was pounded into more pain, even making breathing difficult, making him feel nearly dead.

Agonizingly painful.
