Falling For The True Heiress

Chapter 110: You Can’t Get Enough Of Me?

  • Next Chapter

We walked down the stairs and then walked toward the dining room.

Dinner was already prepared early. Actually, Mrs. Chloe knows well that no one loves to eat late. It’s either by 5 p.m. or 6 p.m.

The aroma of the food filled the room, and my stomach growled a bit too loudly. I quickly pressed a hand against it and turned to look at Sylvia, who I knew had heard it.

Sylvia smiled and pulled out a chair for me.

"Thanks, babe," I whispered quietly and sat down.

She smiled and sat down opposite me before opening the food covers.

Mrs. Chloe had made dishes of coconut rice, grilled chicken, roasted vegetables, creamy mashed potatoes, and a large bowl of fresh salad.

The smell of the coconut rice was warm and inviting, while the grilled chicken had a smoky aroma that made my mouth water. The roasted vegetables still looked fresh, and the mashed potatoes were smooth and creamy.

"Wow," Sylvia said as she looked at the food. "Mrs. Chloe is actually a good chef."

I nodded my head as I joined her in admiring the food.

Everything looked so tasty and mouth-watering that my stomach growled again.

I quickly placed my hand over it.

Sylvia laughed softly. "Someone is hungry."

I pouted. "I didn’t eat much earlier."

"I can see that."

She picked up a serving spoon and began putting food onto my plate. "Eat well."

I smiled as I watched her.

The delicious smell made it difficult to wait any longer.

I picked up my fork and took the first bite.

The moment the coconut rice touched my tongue, my eyes widened.

It was warm, soft, and full of flavor.

"Mmm."

I couldn’t help the small sound that escaped me.

Sylvia watched me with an amused smile.

"That good?"

I nodded quickly, already taking another bite. "Very good." ℴ

She laughed softly and served herself some food.

I took a piece of grilled chicken next.

The outside was slightly crispy, but the inside was tender and juicy. The smoky flavor mixed perfectly with the coconut rice.

I closed my eyes for a second.

"Mrs. Chloe really knows what she’s doing."

"I told you," Sylvia said, smiling.

We continued eating for a while.

The only sounds in the dining room were the soft clinking of our cutlery against the plates and the occasional sound of Sylvia laughing whenever she caught me eating too quickly.

"Slow down, Minnie."

"I’m hungry."

"You’ll choke."

"I won’t."

She raised an eyebrow, and I immediately slowed down.

She smiled proudly. "Good girl."

I rolled my eyes and continued eating.

After a few minutes, I looked across the table at her.

She was eating quietly, occasionally taking small sips of water.

The warm light above the dining table softened her features, making her look even more beautiful.

I found myself staring.

Sylvia noticed. She lowered her fork and looked at me.

"What?"

I shook my head. "Nothing."

"You’ve been staring at me for almost a minute." She smiled. "You really can’t get enough of me, can you?"

I felt my cheeks warm. "Maybe."

She laughed and returned to her food.

I smiled and took another bite.

Then I heard footsteps approaching from the hallway.

My hand stopped halfway to my mouth.

Sylvia looked up too.

The footsteps grew closer, and then a familiar voice came into the dining room.

"Sylvia?"

My stomach tightened, and I slowly lowered my fork.

Janina walked into the dining room.

"Sylvia, how about this one?" she said, spreading her hands as she showed off the outfit.

Sylvia stared at her for a moment before giving a small nod.

"Better."

Janina smiled.

She walked toward Sylvia, pulled out the chair behind her, and sat down.

Then her eyes slowly moved toward me.

She gave me a satisfied smile.

Not a friendly smile.

It was the kind of smile that felt like a challenge.

I stared back at her.

She hasn’t stopped learning how to compete with me in everything.

The way she looked at Sylvia.

The way she carried herself.

Even the way she had chosen to sit so close to her.

It felt deliberate.

My fingers tightened around my fork as I looked from Janina to Sylvia, who was still eating as if she hadn’t noticed anything.

Janina caught me looking.

She tilted her head slightly and smiled again.

I narrowed my eyes.

Was she trying to get a reaction from me?

I refused to give her one.

I looked down at my plate instead.

But the tension in my chest only grew.

The smell of the food that had made me hungry earlier suddenly meant nothing to me.

I had completely lost my appetite.

I glanced at Janina again.

She was talking to Sylvia now, smiling at something Sylvia had said.

Something inside me twisted.

I hated it.

I hated the way she acted as if she belonged there.

As if she had a right to make herself comfortable beside my wife.

I looked away before my jealousy could show too clearly.

My eyes landed on the clock in front of me.

Felix said that we would have a game tonight.

That’s true...

I looked down at the table and suddenly remembered that I wasn’t with my phone.

I had left it in Sylvia’s room.

I pushed my chair back and dropped my fork onto the plate.

The sharp clatter immediately caught Sylvia’s attention.

She turned toward me. "Minnie, are you not eating again?"

I opened my mouth to answer, but Janina spoke first.

"Minnie?" she repeated, her eyebrows drawing together.

There was something about the way she said my name that irritated me.

I looked at her, and she was still watching me.

I didn’t answer her. Instead, I looked back at Sylvia.

Sylvia ignored Janina and continued staring at me.

"I’m done eating," I said.

Sylvia’s eyes dropped to my plate, and then she looked back at me. "You barely ate anything."

I sighed.

I could feel Janina’s eyes still on me.

I didn’t want to stay there anymore. I didn’t want to explain, and I didn’t want to sit there pretending everything was fine while my mood kept getting worse.

I didn’t want to give Janina another chance to get under my skin.

So I stood up. "I’ll be back."

I turned and walked away.

"Minnie," Sylvia called after me.

I kept walking.

Behind me, the dining room suddenly felt too quiet.

I didn’t need to look back to know Janina was watching me, and that only made me walk faster.

I just wanted my phone.

And maybe a little time away from the dining table.
