Evolution: From Little Devil to Devil Empress

Chapter 238: Lack of Intelligence

Chapter 238: Lack of Intelligence

“Unfortunately, this can only be considered as a last-case option.”

“Although Overwrite is strong and might fool most people, my disguise can be seen through by stronger beings. Visiting a city might be fine. But visiting several of them is bound to put me in danger.”, she thought.

Her mind turned as she fell into thought.

In the end, after several minutes, she concluded that the best way to find an Inferno Item was not by searching for it.

Instead, it would be smarter and more efficient to search for the people who might have them in their possession.

And the identity of such people was apparent.

The most likely people to possess an Inferno Item were not Fire Elementals, but the Devils who chose to venture into this valley.

“Since they dare to come here, they should have prepared a way to leave and return to the Demon World. It’s impossible that they’ve decided to trap themselves in here forever and become neighbors with the Fire Elementals, right?”, Liora joked.

With that in mind, Liora maintained her disguise as a Fire Elemental and turned around.

She didn’t walk deeper into the valley, but instead walked towards the opposite direction, towards its outskirts.

In her opinion, this was the most likely place to find outsiders.

In a forest of gray flames, Liora stood silently as her unassuming palm reached out and crushed the head of her wolf-headed enemy.

Her opponent was only a Lesser Devil after all.

Faced with the overwhelming power that was far beyond his own, he had been unable to put up any defense and ended up dying in her hands in a single encounter.

After she habitually collected his soul and placed it away, Liora began going through his belongings.

She wasn’t looking for anything of value, knowing full well that such a lowly Devil would never possess something worthy of her interest.

Instead, she was searching for an Inferno Item.

Although she had never seen one before, she had gone through the Fire Elemental’s memories and could recognize the unique aura that they possessed.

Therefore, it only took her a few seconds to go through the wolf-headed Devil’s items and rule them out one after another.

In the end, she had to accept that the wolf-headed Devil similar to her and possessed no Inferno Item.

“What an idiot! You dare to visit this forbidden area without a way to leave? Are you seeking death?!”, she couldn’t help but curse, kicking the opponent’s corpse away.

She didn’t try to absorb his essence.

She was worried that doing so might result in an additional “Lowered Intelligence” evolution being added to her Myriad Devils Body.

After she kicked the fallen enemy a few more times and took out her anger, Liora turned around and chose to resume her search.

Even though she had been unlucky and failed to find an Inferno Item in her first try, she believed that it would not be long before she succeeded.

After all, how many stupid Devils could there be out there, right?

It was hard to say that Liora’s initial idea was incorrect.

Indeed, for a person to choose to venture into the Inferno Valley, it made sense that they would leave a way out for themselves and hold an Inferno Item.

Unfortunately, a rational thinking process was not the Devil race’s greatest advantage.

And as time passed, this unfortunately became apparent to Liora.

Although she had been searching for invaders for quite some time and had even met more than a dozen of them, Liora had failed to find anyone carrying an Inferno Item.

“These people are all Lesser Devils, yet they dare to come here without a way to leave. Should I say that the ignorant are truly fearless?”, she couldn’t help but mutter.

In fact, Liora was not truly furious. The reason she cursed these people was because she was beginning to suspect that the information she had found in the Fire Elemental’s memories had been wrong.

After all, it didn’t make sense to her that there would be so many unintelligent Devils all of a sudden.

Of course, she had almost forgotten that this was the level of intelligence that most people, including humans, possessed.

Although all her opponents so far had conjured various intricate plans, possessed several trump cards, and even made preparations for their plans’ failure, this didn’t mean that such people were common and that everyone was like them.

If anything, it was the exact opposite.

All the opponents that Liora had faced so far were extraordinary in both strength and intelligence, thus making them worthy of becoming her enemies.

Almost subconsciously, Liora had ignored this, making her mistakenly believe that all people were like this.

This would, of course, not be true.

“Do I really have to visit one of the Fire Elementals’ cities? But I’m afraid that they will already be on alert.”

“Since the leaders among them have ordered their subordinates to investigate the valley, there’s nothing stopping them from placing a couple of powerful Elementals in their cities.”

In fact, there was an easy way for Liora to bypass this.

As long as she consumed some Evolution Points, she could upgrade Overwrite further, making it even harder to detect.

But unless it was necessary, Liora did not want to do this.

She had worked so hard to obtain these points and wished to keep them for future occasions. Or at the very least, she hoped to use them in order to enhance her combat power.

If she were to use them on an upgrading auxiliary ability, her face would turn livid.

With that in mind, Liora shook her head. She decided to remain patient for now.

“One week. If I don’t find an Inferno Item within one week, I’ll give up my search.”, she secretly vowed.

“Still, this doesn’t mean that I can’t change my methods to speed up my progress.”, her low voice echoed as she continued her journey through the lands of the Inferno Valley.
