Chapter 199: Real Riot
Chapter 199: Real Riot
The battle between the beasts and the humans had quieted down in Hope City, with the humans emerging victorious.
In addition, due to the Infernal Army’s initiative to clean up the remaining beasts roaming around the city, even the few skirmishes that would happen from time to time ceased.
But this was not true for the other cities located along the border.
For example, the war in Sunflower City was still ongoing. If anything, it had become even more intense.
Many beasts went on a rampage and assaulted the city’s stone walls without a downtime, attempting to break through them and tear the humans hidden behind them apart.
In fact, it was only a matter of time before their attack would succeed.
But just then, something unexpected occurred.
A large number of black dots appeared on the horizon and approached the city at a rapid speed.
The soldiers standing on the walls were originally horrified, fearing that another wave of beasts had arrived.
But when these dots approached the city’s walls, their true identity was revealed.
It was a team of several hundred Knights, wearing thick metal armor and exuding a sharp, murderous aura.
A beautiful woman with blonde hair and blue eyes stood at its front and seemed to be the very center of this small army.
Clearly, this woman was Eleanor, who had left Hope City and had taken it upon herself to help the nearby cities fend off the menacing beasts.
Eleanor and her team of Knights did not communicate with the soldiers on the walls.
She simply raised her sword and pointed at the sky.
As if following her command, the Knights behind her rushed forward, entering the wave of beasts and slaughtering them as if they were mere mortal animals.
Eleanor’s demeanor in particular was extraordinary.
Although she was still a True Knight, each of her sword strikes seemed to be assisted by the world itself, accurately harvesting the life of the beasts around her, no matter how strong they were.
The soldiers of Sunflower City did not understand what was going on at first. But very soon, they got the orders of their captains and reacted.
Knowing that the team of Knights was their allies, they didn’t hesitate.
The walls of the city opened, and soldiers began pouring out, gathering around Eleanor’s team to fight against the beasts.
The war did not last long.
Only a few hours later, Eleanor’s sword took away the life of the last beast.
The soldiers of the city cheered loudly, and even the team of Knights had happy smiles on their faces.
All those who chose to follow Eleanor either wanted to help the common people or were captivated by her demeanor and wished to follow her from the bottom of their hearts.
Either way, the cheers of the city’s soldiers were the most valuable reward.
The only person who was not excited was, surprisingly, Eleanor. Instead, her face had turned solemn.
A flicker of apprehension flashed in her originally serene eyes as she turned to look at the Ancient Beast Wilderness on the horizon.
She could feel that something was rising within it. Something dangerous, both for her and the Empire as a whole.
She had had this strange premonition over the past few days, but it had now become even stronger.
“What could it be? Is a powerful monster planning to leave the wilderness? But with Duchess Lobelia and Lady Liora, killing a single beast should be easy.”
“Moreover, I heard that the Infernal Army has arrived at the border. Nothing should happen…”
Eleanor tried to convince herself that everything was fine.
But her efforts seemed to have the opposite effect.
The moment her whispered words finished, the changes that she had been sensing finally occurred.
For a brief moment, the whole continent shook violently, as if the tectonic plates beneath it were about to shatter into pieces.
Then, the entire Ancient Beast Wilderness seemed to expand.
The plants on its outskirts were blown into dust as countless beasts began to frantically pour out, smashing everything along their path.
Though the forest within her sight was only a small part of the overall Ancient Beast Wilderness, Eleanor had the illusion that hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of beasts ran out of it.
And, under her horrified eyes, they all moved towards the Iron Armor Empire.
“There is another riot!”, her shout jolted the soldiers who were celebrating awake.
They raised their heads and looked at the Ancient Beast Wilderness, only to be met with the same sight as Eleanor.
Immediately, they froze.
—
“Is this your plan? To command the beasts in the Ancient Beast Wilderness and instruct them to invade the human Empire?”
Standing in the sky above the wilderness, Liora lowered her head and asked the Beast Emperor floating right beside her.
Her eyes reflected the beasts pouring out of the forest, and her strength gave her a deeper understanding of the situation than Eleanor.
“I caused the previous riot to test the Founding Emperor. But although he didn’t react, it’s not impossible that he is simply pretending, waiting for us to take the bait.”, the Beast Emperor explained.
“Moreover, the Founding Emperor’s most powerful ability is his skill to gather his subjects’ strength and bless himself with their power. Otherwise, why do you think he banded together with other humans and established such a vast Empire?”
Liora was not surprised when she heard this. There were many ways for someone to boost their combat power using other people’s strength.
It could be done through faith, fighting intent, murderous intent, or even through the utilization of plain energy.
It was not strange that the Founding Emperor, a person who had communicated with a group famous for their reliance on large numbers, was able to obtain such a skill.
“So… when are we going to take action?”, Liora questioned the Beast Emperor further.
She immediately got her answer.
“Wait for now. Let’s see how the Iron Armor Empire reacts to this invasion. If the Founding Emperor remains holed up in the capital, we will personally pay him a visit.”
