Every Sentinel I Dreamed of Came Looking for Me
Chapter 299: Then Don’t Blame Him for Chopping Off Their Hands One by One
Chapter 299: Chapter 299: Then Don’t Blame Him for Chopping Off Their Hands One by One
A sharp pain exploded in her ears. Lin Yueyao swayed violently, almost collapsing on the spot.
"Sister Yue Yao, what’s wrong?"
Seeing this, Yun Sheng forced herself to reach out and support her, her face filled with worry.
"Sister Yue Yao, were you just hit by Lin Hao’s spiritual power? Be careful. I... I’m barely holding on right now and really don’t have much energy left to take care of you. How about... you go out first? If I can’t hold on, I’ll stop."
"I..."
Lin Yueyao was about to say something, but the searing pain from earlier suddenly vanished, as if nothing had happened at all. She looked at Yun Sheng with deep suspicion.
She had clearly felt a powerful spiritual power pierce her spiritual landscape just a moment ago. Yet, that power carried the aura of a Sentinel’s spiritual power. It couldn’t possibly have come from a B-level Guide like Yun Sheng.
"Could it be Xiao Hao?" she wondered. "But even if Xiao Hao’s spiritual power is rioting, it shouldn’t be this strong! Besides, that spiritual power clearly pierced my spiritual landscape. How could it just disappear?!"
Looking at Lin Yueyao’s bewildered and uncertain expression, Yun Sheng sneered inwardly. For that strike just now, she had used the power drawn from Xing Che’s spiritual power. It was the pure aura of an SSS-level Sentinel, and one that wasn’t even registered in the Star Alliance archives. Lin Yueyao could feel it, but she would never be able to trace its source!
"Sister Yue Yao? Sister Yue Yao, why aren’t you speaking?"
Lin Yueyao gritted her teeth and stared at Yun Sheng for a few seconds, but couldn’t find any flaws in the girl’s expression. Suppressing the suspicion and uneasiness surging in her heart, she forced a smile.
"I’m fine. It’s probably just the aftershock of the spiritual power impact. You focus on guiding Xiao Hao. Don’t worry about me."
As she spoke, she took two steps back, putting some distance between herself and Yun Sheng. However, her gaze never left the other woman.
Yun Sheng said nothing more. She lowered her head and continued to "struggle" with guiding Lin Hao, while silently calculating her next move. Lin Yueyao was already suspicious, but she didn’t have any proof yet. Going forward, Yun Sheng knew she had to be even more careful; she couldn’t let Lin Yueyao notice anything amiss, nor could she let her stay in the room too comfortably. This game had only just begun!
Inside a black hovercar, Si Jin sat across from Bai Ye. His eyes were cold and dark, and his lips were pressed into a thin line, making him look like a sheathed blade. He had just broken away from Xu Chengyuan and sped all the way to the hospital, only to be held up in the parking lot by a message Yun Sheng had sent in advance.
"What is the situation now? Is Yun Sheng up there alone?"
Si Jin’s voice wasn’t loud, but it carried a suppressed coldness.
Bai Ye looked up at Si Jin, frowning slightly. "This was Yun Sheng’s idea. At first, she just wanted to see what Lin Yueyao was plotting. We just didn’t expect Lin Yueyao to have ties with the Dark Nest. I’ve already sent men up. The moment Yun Sheng is in trouble, they will immediately take action and secure the target."
He wouldn’t joke around with Yun Sheng’s safety. His men were already in position; they just couldn’t show their faces directly for fear of tipping off the enemy.
Si Jin’s eyes flickered. "Lin Yueyao... I’ve underestimated her. It seems the fact that the Dark Nest operatives made a move in Zone 10 earlier might have something to do with her as well. It’s just..." He paused. "How did she get involved with the Dark Nest?"
Before the truth about the baby-swapping incident was discovered, Lin Yueyao was the highly talented daughter of Lin Zhenye and Su Wan. She was a true golden girl, not to mention she later awakened as an S-class Guide. What reason could she possibly have to get mixed up with an organization like the Dark Nest?
Bai Ye’s expression also grew a shade colder. "I’ve already sent someone to investigate this."
"Alright, I’ll leave it to you. I’ll go up in disguise so no one will recognize me. I don’t feel at ease with Yun Sheng up there alone."
Even though Bai Ye had stationed his men, there was no way Si Jin could be entirely at ease.
"Keep in touch," Bai Ye nodded.
"Yeah, let’s split up." After saying that, Si Jin pushed the car door open and stepped out.
The moment the door closed, he cast a backward glance at Bai Ye before walking briskly toward the elevators. Meanwhile, Bai Ye received another message on his terminal from Luo Cheng.
[General, someone has approached Mo Chen at the research institute.]
Bai Ye narrowed his eyes, the aura around him turning abruptly frigid.
"Someone is targeting Mo Chen as well?" he mused.
[Mo Chen won’t reveal anything. Keep a close eye on them and find out who sent them.]
Luo Cheng: [Yes, General.]
Bai Ye leaned back slowly against his seat and closed his eyes. The cabin was so quiet that only the low hum of the air conditioner could be heard, but his mind never stopped racing for a second. The Dark Nest, Lin Yueyao, the research institute, Xu Chengyuan, the Tower... Countless threads were tangled together in a messy web, and the intersection of all these threads was Yun Sheng. She had been targeted, and by more than just one faction.
Bai Ye opened his eyes, a sharp glint flashing in their depths. He reopened his terminal. His fingertips swiped rapidly across the screen as he pulled up an encrypted channel, quickly typed a message, and sent it out.
[Deploy one team to monitor the vicinity of the Lin Family’s home, and send another team to the hospital. The Dark Nest operatives have shown themselves. Keep a close eye on them and investigate all of their strongholds on the Capital Star.]
[Received.]
A reply came quickly from the other side. Bai Ye stared at the word "Received," his gaze heavy. He never fought a battle he wasn’t prepared for. Since the Dark Nest had already reached out for Yun Sheng, they couldn’t blame him for chopping off their hands one by one!
Back in the treatment room, Yun Sheng was still continuing the guidance. Lin Hao’s face gradually regained its color, and his spiritual power seemed to be slowly calming down. Standing to the side, Lin Yueyao didn’t notice anything unusual, nor did she feel anything particularly special about Yun Sheng’s spiritual power. She lowered her eyes, her brow furrowing even tighter.
"Is it really related to bloodlines? But there has never been a case like this..." Lin Yueyao muttered under her breath. Watching Yun Sheng, she once again mobilized her own spiritual power, intending to probe further.
The moment she acted, a strange spiritual power struck her again. This time, it didn’t attack her spiritual landscape. Instead, it silently wrapped around her spiritual power, giving it a gentle tug like an invisible vine. Lin Yueyao’s spiritual power fell into instant chaos, like a tangled ball of yarn that couldn’t be unraveled no matter how hard she tried.
Her expression changed drastically as her body swayed violently, nearly losing its footing once again. Gritting her teeth, she desperately tried to reel her spiritual power back in, but that strange force felt glued to it, impossible to shake off. Fine beads of sweat broke out on her forehead, and her breathing grew rapid. Lin Yueyao staggered precariously, looking to be in very bad shape.
Inside the observation room, the crowd stared at the monitoring screen. Seeing Lin Yueyao’s state, everyone frowned.
"What’s going on? What is Miss Yue Yao doing?"
"Mr. Lin, is she feeling unwell? Should we call her out first?"
"Yeah, Miss Yue Yao hasn’t been able to help since she went in. Why does it seem like she’s just causing trouble?"
Lin Zhenye’s expression wasn’t looking too good either as he kept his eyes glued to Lin Yueyao on the screen. Su Wan stood by his side, her fingers clenched tightly, her eyes filled with worry.
"Is Yue Yao... is she also being affected by Xiao Hao’s spiritual power? She was already injured when she guided Xiao Hao earlier. Now that she’s gone back in, could it be..."
Right at that moment, Lin Yueyao’s body swayed violently, and she collapsed to the side, crashing heavily against the wall with a muffled THUD.
