Chapter 367: Chapter 228: Seeking Help (Part 2)
’What thing?’ Fang Yue scoffed inwardly. ’I’m dead if I hand it over, and I’m dead if I don’t. Who would be idiotic enough to just give it away?’
’This black-robed man is so arrogant. Does he really think he has me cornered?!’
The black-robed man sneered. "Stop playing dumb. I’m talking about the Jade Token imbued with providence. It’s on you. Hand it over, and I might consider letting you live."
’Providence?’
’The Dragon-shaped Jade Token?’
Hearing the black-robed man’s words, something clicked in Fang Yue’s mind. He finally understood the true purpose behind the man’s pursuit.
As expected, the man was after the Dragon-shaped Jade Token he was holding. To think this Jade Token was actually related to providence.
This was also the first time he had ever heard the term "providence."
He had no idea what use this "providence" had, but it did remind Fang Yue of a saying he’d seen in his past life: *Upon encountering wind and clouds, one transforms into a dragon.*
That seemed to be what providence was all about.
Providence seemed ethereal and illusory, but it must have some great use in this world. Otherwise, an expert of this caliber wouldn’t be so relentless.
"Fine, I’ll give it to you!" Fang Yue took a deep breath, pulled a Jade Token from his robes, and, with a burst of strength, threw it.
The black-robed man immediately pounced toward the Jade Token.
However, seizing the opportunity, Fang Yue immediately turned and bolted.
"Damn it! You dare trick me? You’re courting death!"
The black-robed man caught the Jade Token, but one look told him it was just an ordinary one. He immediately realized he’d been tricked.
Furious, the black-robed man’s figure blurred, transforming into a black shadow as he chased after Fang Yue.
He was incredibly fast, closing the distance between him and Fang Yue in the blink of an eye.
But Fang Yue was prepared. With a flash of movement, he ducked into a dense forest.
The black-robed man followed close behind, pursuing him into the dense forest.
However, the dense forest was utterly silent. Fang Yue’s figure had vanished without a trace.
’Damn it! How did he disappear? There’s something strange about this terrain. Can it affect a person’s perception?’
The black-robed man gritted his teeth in fury. He scanned his surroundings, trying to find a trace of Fang Yue, only to discover that the dense forest seemed to possess some special power that restricted his senses.
A jolt of alarm shot through the black-robed man. He realized this forest might be a trap.
However, he was unwilling to give up, for he knew Fang Yue carried the one thing he was determined to obtain.
He carefully observed his surroundings, trying to find some sort of clue.
Suddenly, he noticed some faint tracks on the ground.
The black-robed man’s spirits lifted, and he followed the footprints in pursuit.
However, he found no sign of Fang Yue. Instead, the path led him deeper and deeper into the forest.
"Hmph, so you escaped. You might be able to run, but your companions can’t. Hmph! If you want to ransom them, bring what I want to Geng Metal City."
The black-robed man searched for a long time but still couldn’t find any trace of Fang Yue, which left him seething with anger.
He knew Fang Yue had played him. His opponent must have known about the forest’s peculiar nature and deliberately fled here.
Not only had he failed to retrieve the Jade Token imbued with providence, but he had also let his target slip away right from under his nose.
This felt like a personal insult, and the black-robed man seethed with rage.
He immediately turned, left the forest, and returned to where he had first encountered Fang Yue. He seized Lin Wan’Er and her maid, intending to use the pair to threaten Fang Yue into submission.
"You two, with me!" the black-robed man commanded, his voice cold and filled with an authority that permitted no defiance.
Ordinarily, a cultivator of his stature would have disdained to make a move against a weak woman like Lin Wan’Er, but now he had no other choice.
Little did he know, however, of Lin Wan’Er’s true identity.
If he were to find out that this was the very woman from the Lin Family who had fled her marriage, he would probably be even more furious.
Overwhelmed by the black-robed man’s aura, Lin Wan’Er was momentarily too frightened to resist.
They knew the black-robed man was immensely powerful and that they were no match for him. Resisting would very likely cost them their lives.
He took Lin Wan’Er and her maid and departed the territory of Liangzhou Prefecture, speeding toward Geng Metal City, one of the Four Cities of Yujing.
Traveling at great speed, the black-robed man soon arrived at Geng Metal City.
He did not enter the city. Instead, he made his way to a remote manor outside its walls.
The manor was hidden amongst the mountains in a quiet, secluded area, rarely visited by anyone.
The black-robed man brought Lin Wan’Er and her maid into the manor and locked them inside a secret chamber.
"You will stay here quietly. Don’t even think about escaping. Otherwise, you will face the consequences!" the black-robed man said coldly.
After speaking, he turned and left, leaving Lin Wan’Er and her maid to stare at each other wordlessly in the secret chamber.
Lin Wan’Er was terrified. She didn’t know why the black-robed man had captured them, and she had no idea what would happen next.
The mistress and her maid could only hold each other tightly, seeking a sliver of comfort in their shared terror.
~~~~~~~
’That guy is completely unreasonable. He has none of the magnanimity you’d expect from an expert.’
Fang Yue only emerged from his hiding place after the black-robed man was long gone.
He stared in the direction the black-robed man had gone, a cold glint flashing in his eyes.
He knew the black-robed man had taken Lin Wan’Er for the sole purpose of threatening him.
However, he wasn’t too worried about Lin Wan’Er’s safety, because he believed the black-robed man wouldn’t harm her—at least for now.
The black-robed man’s target was the Dragon-shaped Jade Token he held. As long as he didn’t hand over the Jade Token, Lin Wan’Er would remain safe.
But that didn’t mean Fang Yue could simply ignore the matter.
