Chapter 3840: Understanding

Alex received and sent the understanding he gained of the Dao of Roots.

Unlike his clone, he hadn’t learned much from the start, so he had to comprehend what he was learning at the same time in order to catch up to what his clone had known for many years now. But that was only a slight issue toward the start.

After some time, Alex had caught up to his clone. However, he couldn’t go beyond that. There was no way to go beyond that. With the Soul Resonance, their minds were one. Everything Alex learned, his clone learned as well. And everything his clone learned, he learned.

Both of their speeds would be equal, as at this very moment, they were one being with two bodies.

And with Alex as one part of that being, they learned the Dao in no time at all.

As the Worldly Laws descended from the sky, Alex focused on them, attempting to learn anything else within them. There were many Daos he felt familiar with at that very moment, but at the same time, they felt... impossible.

It took Alex a short while to realize the issue with trying to learn a Dao with the older Alex connected to him the entire time. Because the older Alex only had one single Spirit root, Wood, he wasn’t able to easily learn any of the other Daos.

Not that he would need more than one for the purpose of reaching the Immortal realm, but Alex was gaining the Dao of Roots as well this time around, so he wanted to give something back.

The older Alex had already learned the Dao of Wood, which left him with only one Dao that the man could possibly learn.

Dao of Lightning Conduction.

It was a Wood Dao that Alex had learned a long time ago in order to learn the Dao of Conduction, which was a Metal Dao.

Alex actively thought of the Dao, reaching into the Worldly Laws at the same time to determine that very Dao.

At first, things felt difficult. It felt as if the resonance would fall apart at any moment. However, once he got past the initial hurdle of having the older Alex take in this new profound knowledge and understand it a little more, passing along information became easier, as they were both of a similar mindset now, helping reinvigorate the resonance.

The Worldly Laws settled on them, and Alex learned the Dao of Roots fully. The same was true of the older Alex as well.

Only, he didn’t learn the Dao of Lightning Conduction.

We’re one being at this moment, Alex realized. I have already learned the Dao, so it is treating it as if he has already learned it as well.

The moment Alex realized that might have been the case, he broke the connection. He opened his eyes and asked Liz to stop.

Liz slowly moved back, the slowed-down time catching back up to its normal pace for him. At the same time, Alex completely separated himself from the Worldly Laws and any other Daos, getting himself into a state where the resonance wouldn’t form once again.

The resonance between him and the older Alex fully collapsed, so now the older Alex had to try and learn the Dao all on his own.

"What happened?" Liz asked curiously. "How did you suddenly learn the same Dao as the other you?"

Alex took a deep breath and explained what it was. He went into detail about how it had happened once before, but it was such a long time ago that Alex hadn’t thought about it ever again. Not that he had any idea how to replicate it either.

However, he had done so by accident today as well, allowing himself to gain a new Dao thanks to his other self. And from what he sensed of the Worldly Laws, his other self was gaining a new Dao thanks to him.

The others learned of it as well and found it surprising that such a thing was even possible.

Sunflare remained in the corner for some time, listening to everything that was being said, before finally speaking up.

"The other man who came here before is your clone?" he asked.

Alex turned toward the man and nodded. "Yes, senior."

"What sort of clone?" Sunflare asked.

"What sort?" Alex tilted his head.

"I’m asking how you made him."

"Ah, I don’t know the details of how he was made. There is a senior within this palace who had the knowledge of how to make clones, and he did so without my knowledge," Alex said.

Sunflare was left musing over something that Alex couldn’t begin to guess.

"There are two types of clones," Sunflare said. "There are those who are given life through various treasures that are then molded into flesh and bone to form a human. The other type is one where the cultivator places a part of themselves as the core of the clone and uses treasures to grow a clone. Which one was it?"

Alex shook his head slightly. "I won’t lie, senior. I don’t know which one this is," he said. "All I can tell you, based on my understanding, is that he came to life in mere seconds, if that helps."

"Seconds?" Sunflare asked, truly surprised. "That must mean that his body was molded into flesh using various treasures. But then... how is there a connection between the two of you? There must be a part of you in that flesh for the connection to exist. Otherwise, this resonance would not have happened."

Alex was left scrambling for answers the same way Sunflare was. He tried to think of a solution to this issue, but there was none.

"Wait, you said a part of me has to be inside the clone, right?" Alex asked. "Does that part need to be the core?"

Sunflare narrowed his eyes. "What do you mean?"

"If I only need to exist inside of him in part, then I may have an idea."
