The next morning arrived, and even when they told me they didn’t need my help, I still ended up helping the people of the city in rebuilding their stuff. It would have simply been too stupid to not help them. I don’t care about their pride or their independence, just let me do you a favor for fucks’ sake.
Anyway, I didn’t really need to sleep either way, so I stayed all night helping and cooking for everyone while also assessing and assimilating my gains. Well, I wasn’t cooking for them, more like an automatic thing through my Aura, Divine Cooking Spirits, and an improvised Divine Gourmet Domain, which was more than enough to procure high quality food for everyone.
After having defeated Katsuie Shibata, I devoured his body and power, although I let his soul find peace, I didn’t want to be as ruthless, mostly out of respect to him as a prideful warrior that gave it his all until the end.
However, just his body alone helped me further understand what the hell these Zipangu people were, and the origins of their powers…
First of all, Katsuie Shibata was still a human, a powerful one, however. His body was magically enhanced using over a hundred Cursed Seals covering his skin, mostly invisible to the naked eye, alongside a central, ethereal core close to his soul called Yin & Yang Heart.
It appears that the majority of people in Zipangu are primarily just humans, although there might be other races, they’re the minority and might only live in certain regions, such as the Kitsune, Oni, Tengu, and more.
How they start, however, isn’t that different from normal humans from Earth. I am fairly sure even the humans of Yggdrasil are born with a Mana Core, but not those from Zipangu. However, through other means, they cultivate their bodies and elevate them to the level of immense divine strength that Katsuie Shibata possessed.
Among these is Physique Cultivation through the absorption of the Essence of Heaven and Earth, Yin and Yang, forging their physique into a stronger and stronger form, and then the formation of the Yin & Yang Heart to gather this energy and keep it permanently inside of their bodies.
This energy is what makes this world supernatural, and there isn’t Magic like we know it back in Zipangu, I noticed this when I ate Katsuie Shibata’s corpse, he had no Mana inside of him, nor Divine Power like we know it either.
Hence, people of Zipangu don’t naturally produce nor possess Mana, and their Magic is so different because of this, they use the Essence of Heaven and Earth to directly alter the elements around them or to channel Cursed Powers from Cursed Seals they engrave onto themselves.
The reason Katsuie Shibata was so strong was a combination of all these factors, plus his transformation was like an “ultimate form” by unleashing the power of these Cursed Seals, all one hundred of them, which were even deadlier, concentrated and refined versions of the Yokai Curse that turned people into monsters.
Hence, when I ate him I was able to assimilate this brand-new energy, which I quickly absorbed into my body and forged into something new, yet another new core I could grow using this new, otherworldly energy…
FLAAASH!
This core, however, was not physical, crystal, or anything of the sort, it was purely ethereal, a Yin & Yang Heart! It flowed with golden-white and black-red energies, constantly circling against one another, creating an harmony which emanated great power.
This energy could primarily boost my physical strength to new lengths and even expand my own weapon techniques, giving them new power and even more range, which Katsuie Shibata and that red-armored guy showed me. They were able to do all of their crazy, incredibly complex techniques using this energy alone.
As for the Cursed Seals, when I devoured them, they didn’t reappear within my body, but I did gain their Cursed Power, which quickly made me realize that this Curse wasn’t just that, it wasn’t just some sort of magic… no, it had deeper, divine origins. From everything I could decipher with the help of Andromeda, these Cursed Seals’ true power originates from Amaterasu herself.
Apparently, upon her death and the separation of her divine soul and her divine body by the powerful Heavenly Sword of her brother, the resentment she felt upon being betrayed turned her corpse into some sort of zombie goddess, her existence alone releasing this deadly curse everywhere, which gave birth to the Yokai and the Curse.
And her soul? I don’t really know much about that aside from Yuki, who is a fragment of that soul that reincarnated in this world randomly, as a small creature, which only by chance, managed to get this far because she met me.
However, I am fairly sure there must be other Soul Fragments from her elsewhere, maybe they reincarnated as other people too, who knows. We’ll have to find them.
“Hm, it’s done.”
I opened my eyes after some hours of meditation, as I was floating above the clouds while letting these new energies fully assimilate, turns out it worked really well, and I had no difficulties. Could it be because of my new strength or… because of Muramasa?
He also used a strange energy before, I believe he can somehow create Essence of Heaven and Earth on his own, although I cannot keep it, it disappears once Celestia returns.
But yeah, when I temporarily merged with him, it quickly transformed my body, imprinting this power into my own, this is how I’ve inherited his “Legacy” and above all, turned my body capable of assimilating the Essence of Heaven and Earth without problems.
