Entwined by Dawn: The CEO's Relentless Obsession
Chapter 1387 - 1388: Ambush 2
Seeing the gentleman beside him nod slightly, Li Mu let out a breath of relief.
Looks like the gentleman had already noticed, so the word was: wait.
Bai Chenyao glanced at Li Mu, then gave a rapid order.
"Split up. You deal with the wolf pack, I’ll go over there!"
Li Mu had just opened his mouth to say something when he saw the gentleman suddenly rise, stride out of the cave, and at the same time, in the silent, indescribably dangerous primitive jungle, a blood-soaked slaughter began.
"We’ve been spotted, go!"
Watching their Boss up ahead get a clean shot straight through the brow by Bai Chenyao, the man next to him felt his heart jolt, and without a shred of hesitation, gave up on stealth and ambush, thinking they had numbers on their side; even if Bai Chenyao was a king of special forces, he was still just one man.
The thirty-man squad suddenly took aim at Bai Chenyao in the distance from all directions and opened rapid fire.
Because of the snow, the grass, and the shifting refractions off the cliff face, all they could see was Bai Chenyao dodging left and right while returning fire at high speed.
The comrades around them dropped one after another, and more men snatched up machine guns, raking the area where Bai Chenyao was with a harsh, chattering burst.
A dark gleam slid through Bai Chenyao’s eyes; the thin corners of his lips lifted slightly, and on his handsome, ice-cold face flashed a hint of bloodthirsty amusement.
His figure blurred as he slipped behind a tree as thick as a man’s torso, then cut his gaze toward Li Mu’s position.
Seeing Li Mu very tactfully driving the wolf pack toward the men lying in ambush against them, Bai Chenyao’s smile deepened. Gripping his pistol, he raised his hand and started shooting down the wolves lunging at Li Mu.
Once the wolves spotted him, Bai Chenyao spun on his heel and sprinted toward the ambushers. Seeing this, the pack howled in fury and charged after him, savage and relentless.
The ones ambushing Bai Chenyao were all mercenaries, highly experienced in snowfield combat, which was how they’d been able to track him down and set up an ambush in the shortest time possible.
But because they were afraid Bai Chenyao would detect their movements, none of them were carrying any electronic gear; unless they made it back, their handler in the rear had no way of knowing whether the mission had succeeded.
Even though Bai Chenyao and Li Mu were working together with seamless precision, the mercenaries were all desperate men, taking the mission as their sole purpose, vicious and brutal, no less deadly than the wolves charging them.
Once the wolf pack ran into live gunfire, they clearly flinched, even seeming about to break off and retreat.
But when the lead wolf saw the sniper lugging the machine gun go down, it let out a furious roar and hurled itself at them, savage and rabid.
The mercenaries saw the wolves attacking and cursed their mothers in rage.
The wolf pack was nothing compared to Bai Chenyao, but the key was this: if they didn’t take Bai Chenyao out today, even if they made it back, they’d have no way to survive.
And Bai Chenyao had brought the wolves over precisely to split their attention, then pick them off one by one.
The mercenaries understood what they were seeing, guessed right, but it was still too late.
By the time the last mercenary fell, the last snow wolf let out a dying wail, crashed to the ground with a howl, twitched a few times, then lay still.
The slick, heavy air was thick with the reek of blood, sharp enough to sting the nose.
Bai Chenyao and Li Mu didn’t even crease their brows; Li Mu immediately started checking the bodies and tallying the count.
