Endless Horde: Through the Eyes of a Godking

Chapter 839: The Core Inheritance Zone (Happy New Year!)

Chapter 839: The Core Inheritance Zone (Happy New Year!)

Enough time has passed, Cedric decided…

He’s been in the Origin Heaven Continent long enough. He had accumulated enough, probably even more than what was necessary. He had seen enough, gathered enough information, and felt that he was ready to tackle what’s waiting for him at the core inheritance zone.

That’s right. Today marks the day when Cedric finally entered the core inheritance zone of the Origin Heaven Continent. He’s finally using the ten-day reward he got from clearing the previous trial, using this chance to comprehend one of the many Origin Heaven Tablets.

Cedric hadn’t made this decision hastily. Delaying it for 500 years was far from being ’hasty.’

Before this, Cedric always observed quietly in his own little shelter he made. Sure, he spent most of his time comprehending law essences, but he spared a stray thought to keep paying attention to his surroundings, and he had long since learned everything he could to build his expectations.

Whatever trial awaits him in the core inheritance zone will push his skills to the limit. Especially the longer he planned on staying here.

Actually, Cedric could’ve delayed this even more. Maybe 500 years more, even. He could wait until his 1000th year anniversary here before taking the trials of the core inheritance zone. But Cedric found that a waste of time.

Never mind his curiosity; until now, he doesn’t even know if it’s possible at all to leave this place.

Sure, what’s here was only his clone, but it’d still be a damn shame to let it die here. And if he wanted to know more, obviously he had to see what’s on the other side. He can’t expect the people around him to give him answers, especially knowing that they’re forbidden from doing so.

Besides, while he still could continue comprehending law essences, it’s no longer at the same speed as it was before. Mostly because he had already touched the limits of what the outer area allowed.

He hadn’t fully comprehended any concept of law essences to their maximum to receive the recognition of Origin Laws, yes, but that’s because it’s designed that way. Nevertheless, staying out here brought him real close.

Alas, he was nearing the limits. And the further he goes, the slower it gets. Sure, it’s still better than anywhere else, but there’s no need to force it or keep delaying the inevitable.

He might as well face it head-on instead of delaying it, which is no less than running away from it.

That’s why he won’t delay this anymore.

And Cedric timed this well…

Because this day was also the same day where others were scheduled to go to the core inheritance zone too.

Yes. This was one of the things he learned through his observations before. It turns out that the others will have to return to the core zone every 100 years.

In the past 500 years that he’s been observing, the only time where everybody came back alive happened once. Just once. The rest? They returned incomplete.

Whether those who fell chose to willingly go to ’The Other Side’ or outright perished, Cedric doesn’t know.

But from that, it’s clear that whatever it is they have to face must be difficult.

And today, Cedric will go with them.

Seeing him walk among them, others raised their brows. They’ve known him and knew that this would be his first time.

The closest one to him said, “You can still delay, just so you know. No need to hurry or anything. Aside from the tablets, there’s only pain and misery there.”

“I know. I’ve already given this a long thought and made up my mind,” Cedric declared as he resolutely walked among them.

“Alright. Good luck, Kid.”

The others heard him too. Not because they’re actively listening or whatever; it’s just that quiet around here.

And so, together, they marched to the core inheritance zone.

The veil that obscured what’s on the other side blocked them, but it was nothing that a little push couldn’t solve.

Like others, Cedric pushed himself in and passed through with very little resistance. It’s like passing through curtains, actually.

As soon as he stepped on the other side, Cedric was immediately stunned.

It’s like he came to a completely different world.

There was no longer any land on his feet, just the empty expanse of space dotted with stars and draped with curtains of milky radiances and aurora.

A vast, ancient, grand, and primal aura assaulted his senses, making him feel a bit dizzy.

Conceptual law insights rushed—no, swept over him, as if wanting to drown him completely. And unlike what’s on the outside, these ones were complete, older, and way heavier than what he’s used to.

The calling returned; it’s coming to the massive nebula at a distance. In that nebula, he could see the tablets.

Old and jagged rock tablets containing complete records of Origin Laws. They swam within that nebula like fishes in the sea with no predetermined patterns. Free and unrestrained.

Taking a sharp inhale, Cedric walked towards it. The calling echoed in his consciousness, not urgent, just attractive.

Everybody else, though? They seem to be in a hurry. Some, more than others, practically run to it impatiently.

It took some time, but eventually, Cedric arrived there. And then, all of a sudden, a familiar face appeared before him.

Angelo. The same guy who brought him here.

“Well, well…look who’s finally here,” he said as if greeting a friend who’s been awfully late at their appointment.

“Hey, Angelo. Were you…waiting for me?”

“Yes, and no,” he replied. “I was gauging how long it’d take you to come here. But also, I’m not in a hurry; this is where I usually stay anyway.”

“I see.” Cedric nodded. “You said I have ten days to use here, right? How do I…?”

“Let me explain.” Angelo smiled and started explaining.

He gestured at the massive nebula right behind him and said, “As you can see, the Origin Heaven Tablets are in there, swimming like fishes in the sea, free and unrestrained.”

“To use your allotted time rewards, all you need to do is to enter that nebula and sit down. Call out to the Origin Heaven Tablet that you want to comprehend, and it’ll come to you. The moment it appears, the countdown starts.”

“You either terminate your session on your own, or you get thrown out once you’re out of time,” Angelo concluded.

“I see.” Cedric nodded. “And since I’m already here, I suppose that things will only get harder, yeah?”

“Yes.” Angelo nodded with a sad smile. “You can no longer be at ease, because every 100 years, starting now, you’d have to fight for your place to remain here.”

“And I assume that’s also how I gain more time to comprehend the Origin Heaven Tablets?”

“Yes,” Angelo nodded, “so long as you can fight, you gain more time to comprehend the tablets. But let me warn you, your fights will be dangerous.”

“I’m sure you’ve noticed that some of the people who come here never come out. They either willingly went to the Other Side or have completely perished.”

“That’s because the longer you stay here, in the Origin Heaven Continent, the harder the fight becomes. Eventually, others are unable to clear them and fail. Even if they somehow could, they are aware that the next time might be their end; that’s why some of them willingly go to the Other Side instead.”

“But there has to be a way out, right? Surely there’s a way to…I don’t know, be more comfortable here?”

“There is.” Angelo nodded. “Gain the recognition of two Origin Laws, and instead of every 100 years, you’d only need to return here every 500 years. Also, the comprehension time rewards you get will be doubled.”

“Gain the recognition of five Origin Laws, and you’d be like me: free to stay and go at this at your own pace. No time limits. If you want to earn comprehension time rewards, you fight when you’re ready. Failure just voids the rewards, not your life. You can try again and again.”

“Gain the recognition of 10 Origin Laws, and you’d earn the right to come and go here as you please. And by here, I meant the Limitless Continent and the Origin Heaven Continent. Hell, if you want to, you can even start bringing people here. It’s just that their survival couldn’t depend on you. If they die or fall to The Other Side, that’s on them. You can’t interfere.”

“And lastly, can you, somehow, comprehend every single Origin Heaven Tablet here?”

“You’d be the master of this place.”

“Everything and everyone here is yours: the Limitless Continent, the Origin Heaven Continent, every living being here, including me and those on The Other Side, and hell, even the entirety of the Lost Void itself. All of it will be yours.”

“And if you can take this, there is simply no reason for you to not be able to take the entirety of the Primitive Universe as well.”

“After all, every single Origin Law that has ever been made is recorded here. And if you can comprehend them all, the Supreme Will is nothing but a mere pest in your eyes.”
