Endless Evolution: Last Star

Chapter 1566: Blood and Fool

Chapter 1566: Blood and Fool

Vaarh’s words were not accidental.

He always treated his enemies with dignity. Adam was no exception to this rule, so Vaarh called him by name.

But now... he addressed him simply as a human.

’Shit, he’s right.’ Adam clenched his fists, understanding the meaning behind Vaarh’s words.

Unlike Vaarh, he couldn’t absorb the power of another creature just by killing it. Sure, what Vaarh did to the beast didn’t return him to his peak strength, but it was a good help in his situation.

With her new ability, Alexia killed about a hundred monsters, but just as many were able to escape this fate and were freed from their icy confinement by Vaarh.

There were enough monsters here for Vaarh to repeat this trick over and over again.

At some point, the monsters would realize that they needed to run, and even the desire to get some of the energy from the two powerful Phantoms or the Frost Oasis would not be able to make them stay here, but that moment was not coming anytime soon.

In fact, this one action, the fact that Vaarh was able to simply absorb energy from the heart of another monster, practically ended their fight.

Adam had no more tricks up his sleeve.

His only hope was one of the two conditions for the Third Grand Star, as the energy from the Winding Fragment was still wandering around.

But he had no clues or help from anyone. Alexia and Silvana did everything they could, and Vaarh continued to take extreme measures to win.

Step.

Vaarh stepped forward as gray energy covered his fists.

"Stop thinking, Adam."

His voice made Adam’s eyes widen, bringing him back to reality from his thoughts.

"If you can’t come up with any ideas even in a critical situation, it means you’ve already tried everything you could. Just accept your fate and fight to the last drop of blood like a warrior!"

Crack.

The ice cracked under Vaarh’s stomp as he lunged forward.

Adam crossed his arms in front of him as Vaarh’s fist slammed right into the center, throwing him back.

In an attempt to get away from Vaarh, Adam grabbed the ice peak, turning to the right.

But...

BAM!

Vaarh was already there, as was his fist, which slammed right into Adam’s face.

Blood spurted from Adam’s nose as his eyes fluttered from the powerful blow, ready to roll back.

Before he hit the ground, his pupils returned to normal, only to see Vaarh already above him.

His fists were clenched, crashing down on Adam like a steel hammer.

Tap.

Adam’s palms slammed into the ground as he did a backflip, avoiding Vaarh’s strike at the last moment.

A stream of snow flew up as a shockwave went off like a blast.

Screech!

Adam slid across the ice, stopping near the next peak. His eyes fixed on Vaarh, who just brushed the snow off his hands and continued onward with a slow stride.

’What next?’

The thought filled Adam’s mind.

’Should I just keep dodging his attacks? And... What happens when I make a mistake? When do I run out of strength? His fists will destroy me with one precise strike.’

Adam blinked as everything in front of him began to blur and the edges filled with darkness.

He was reaching his limit. A few more hits from Vaarh and the fight would be over for him, and not in the best way.

"GRH!"

The growl coming from the side made him turn around.

The black wolf, far more dangerous and powerful than the white ones, was already ready to devour Adam. As soon as Vaarh finished with Adam, the black wolf would have a chance to get something for itself.

When even weaker predators began to behave this way, it was just another confirmation that Adam’s situation was worse than ever.

"I see..."

His hoarse voice rang out as he shifted his gaze from Vaarh to the black wolf, which was in no hurry to approach, but its fangs were bared. It was ready to sink its fangs into Adam’s neck as soon as the opportunity arose.

"Huh, either I devour you, or you devour me, right?"

The black wolf’s eyes widened for a moment, as if it realized how dark Adam’s last words were.

Thrust.

Blood spurted out as Adam’s palm pierced the black wolf’s chest.

Before the beast could react, Adam jerked his hand back, pulling the black wolf’s heart out.

"Gr-Gh!"

The black wolf tried to resist, but it could not have expected this from Adam. The Phantoms were not supposed to do this.

Thump.

The wolf collapsed to the ground, while its still-beating heart remained in Adam’s hand.

"You... FOOL!"

Vaarh exclaimed, his voice like thunder spreading across the snowy expanse.

"What the hell are you doing?! You’re a Phantom, not a monster! Eating that heart will only make your situation worse. Its energy will kill you and—!"

Adam interrupted him:

"Deprive you of victory? Come on, don’t be so petty."

Adam brought the wolf’s heart to his mouth.

"What do you suggest I do, huh? Continue our fight and lose all my strength after a few skirmishes, so you can get your coveted victory? Besides, you should be proud of me."

"Agh?"

Vaarh was confused.

"I’m following your advice, bastard. I’m willing to do anything to defeat my enemy!"

Crunch!

His fangs sank into the wolf’s heart, and unlike Vaarh, who could directly absorb energy from another being, Adam was in for a much bloodier and more brutal experience.

Crunch. Crunch. Crunch.

He continued to bite and tear pieces from the large heart, blood dripping from the corners of his mouth, until there was nothing left in his hand, not even a tiny piece.

Thump!

Suddenly, Adam clutched his chest as his heart contracted with a sharp pain.

"Tsk. Idiot." Vaarh snorted, moving forward.

He towered over Adam, looking down on him with anger and arrogance.

Vaarh was about to deliver his speech, but something caused his eyes to widen and fill with horror.

He was not the only one who was willing to sacrifice everything and everyone for his victory.
