Endless Evolution: Last Star

Chapter 1553: Iron Spear

Chapter 1553: Iron Spear

Vaarh himself had decided to remove all barriers, so to some extent, he could only blame himself for what was happening.

The ice worms were powerful monsters, perhaps the most dangerous at Frost Ridge, due to their size and terrifying jaws.

However, as always, Vaarh would try to take advantage of the situation to the fullest extent possible.

He gripped Alexia’s wrist tighter and threw her aside. Behind her, the jaws of the ice worm were already open.

With a calm look, Vaarh nodded slightly, ready to turn away and leave the ice worm’s path, but something made him look back at Alexia.

"What?" Vaarh muttered to himself.

For some reason, Alexia was grinning, not like an evil genius, but like a madman ready to do anything.

"Gha..."

She took a deep breath as the white mist surrounded her and Vaarh, before a long shape consisting of many links reflected in her eyes.

Clang!

Before Vaarh could realize it, a thick icy chain was around his back, and both ends were in Alexia’s firm grip.

’NO!’

Vaarh’s eyes widened in realization, but it was too late. Alexia pulled on the chains, and in the next moment, they switched places.

She threw him straight into the ice worm’s open jaws and flew sideways on the momentum to avoid colliding with the giant monster.

Adam, who was standing to the side, gulped. He was impressed by Alexia’s actions.

’Huh, so sometimes she can act logically and even smartly, and not just fight like a wild beast, right?’

CLASP!

With a loud bang, the ice worm’s jaws closed, trapping Vaarh inside.

Alexia and Adam exchanged glances as the ice worm rushed past them, destroying the cave. It wasn’t the worm’s intention, but its body was massive enough to cause rocks to fall and destroy entire levels of stone above them.

Soon enough, just a few seconds later, one of the main slabs fell away, letting sunlight in through the gap that opened up above.

There were still more than a hundred meters to the top, but that was enough for the first chunks of snow to fall from the edges, soon reaching the ground at Adam’s feet.

This brief moment distracted them from the ice worm, which was still rampaging and soon headed upward.

It seemed that the ice worm had had enough of its prey. Now, the monster wanted to leave the caves to find a quiet place and absorb the energy from Vaarh.

But Vaarh would not forgive himself if, after everything he had been through and done, he died just like that.

There were many uncertain things in this world, but he was sure of one thing:

He was not prey, but a hunter. He was going to do everything he could to become the apex one.

Thump. Thump. Thump.

A tremor ran through the ice worm’s body as its belly began to swell in different places, as if dozens of explosions were happening inside.

Then, a white line appeared among the dark gray skin as Vaarh swung his spear once more.

With the next slash, Vaarh cut open the ice worm’s belly, bursting out with a stream of blood.

His anger was clearly reflected on his face. It was not directed at Alexia, who had thrown him right into the monster’s jaws, but at the ice worm, who had decided it could devour Vaarh.

For him, it was the ultimate humiliation, and he couldn’t help but react to it.

"I invited you to the battlefield, and you think you can go against me?" Vaarh gritted his teeth. "Don’t try to escape, this place will be your grave!"

Tremble. Tremble. Tremble.

A powerful dark gray aura burst forth from Vaarh as his eyes flashed brightly, taking on a metallic sheen.

Battle boots appeared on his feet, somewhat similar to Alexia’s, and energy filled the hollow lines between them like lava between molten iron.

Then, Vaarh vanished.

With difficulty, Adam and Alexia were able to follow his movements.

In a white flash, Vaarh rushed along the ice worm’s long body, plunging his spear deep into the monster’s flesh.

A stream of dark blood remained behind as he disemboweled the huge worm like a beast killed by a hunter.

Adam and Alexia had fought against one ice worm before, they knew that these monsters had impressive endurance and could temporarily close their wounds.

The ice worm did this as well. Before too much blood could flow out, it tensed its muscles and directed its energy, causing the edges to contract.

Vaarh paid no attention to this, as his goal was to reach the monster’s head, which he did in just a moment.

Whoooooooooosh.

At high speed, Vaarh flew upward, momentarily rising above the ice worm. A wide gash remained on the ice worm’s jaw, but Vaarh was unable to cut through its head with a single slash.

"Trying to escape?"

Vaarh’s voice echoed off the walls as he hovered near the opening to the surface.

"The moment you decided to attack me, you lost that opportunity. Your life will end here and now!"

These were not just words, as a new wave of energy burst from Vaarh’s body.

GRRRHOOOOOOO!!!

The ice worm roared as it strained its giant body to make one last dash for the surface, knocking Vaarh down on the way.

In their confrontation, the one who was faster and had the more powerful attack would win.

Vaarh had already acted.

"What the..."

Adam’s voice trembled as his eyes reflected the gray aura emanating from Vaarh, spreading outward like the flames of an iron sun.

For a split second, he noticed among Vaarh’s aura the outlines of great wings that could only belong to a dragon that had lived for hundreds of years in this world.

Clutch.

Vaarh gripped his spear tightly, its tip glowing bright white with his energy.

Before the ice worm reached Vaarh, he threw his spear straight at the monster.

Whoooooooooosh.

With lightning speed, the iron spear pierced through the ice worm’s entire body like divine punishment, tearing the giant, long body to pieces by its sheer force.
