Chapter 1582 - 1624: Explanation

Jeremiah May pursed his lips, remaining silent. Despite this being his room, despite this being the May Family’s territory, it seemed as if the person in control was still the man before him.

Jeremiah May sat down at the chair by his desk, while Kyle Kinston and Mabel Quinn sat on the sofa beside him.

The little one had completely recovered now, comfortably nestled in Jeremiah May’s arms.

"You’ve seen before how the little one suddenly convulses all over and keeps crying out in pain. To be blunt, it’s an illness," Kyle Kinston said directly.

"What kind of illness?" Jeremiah May asked, not feeling surprised—seeing her like that, it would be odd to say she wasn’t ill.

"You could say it’s a psychological reaction causing physical responses. It doesn’t have a specific name, but every night of the Full Moon and a few days before, her body inexplicably triggers this pain," Kyle Kinston explained. "However, the pain in the days leading up to the Full Moon doesn’t last long—it’s occasional, sporadic, and short-lived, maybe a few minutes or ten minutes. But on the night of the Full Moon, it lasts longer, an entire night."

Jeremiah May pursed his lips without speaking, clearly pondering the other man’s words. It was the first time he’d heard of such a strange ailment—could it be related to the Full Moon? Right now... His gaze shifted out the window, through the glass, clearly seeing a round moon imprinted in the sky.

Yet glancing at the little one in his arms, she seemed perfectly normal. When he caught her looking at him, she lifted her eyes to meet his gaze, giving him a rather bright smile.

At this moment, he couldn’t tell where the little one was in pain at all!

As if reading his thoughts, Kyle Kinston said, "That’s because you’re holding her right now."

"What do you mean?" Jeremiah May raised his eyes to look at Kyle Kinston.

"This pain disappears as long as she is in physical contact with someone she likes," Kyle explained.

Jeremiah May was stunned, unsure what this meant or whether he understood. Why did this feel like a story too incredible to believe?

"But I advise you not to pull her away from your side now. I don’t want to see my daughter in pain," Kyle Kinston continued. "If you remember the first night you saw her having an episode, didn’t she get better once you held her? But when you handed her over to someone else, she screamed in pain again."

After all, Kyle Kinston had previously heard about the events of that night from Amelia Foster, so he knew what had transpired.

Jeremiah May reflected carefully. It seemed true, but even so, this still felt too far-fetched. "What do you mean she likes me, so contact with me relieves her pain? Shouldn’t she like more than just me? Doesn’t she also like you all, her godmother Amelia Foster, her god-brother...?" He even thought that she quite liked the other children close to her age from the servants’ quarters.

Every time he saw her playing with those children in the courtyard, he felt that this little one basically liked anyone who wasn’t hostile to her.

"This kind of liking is obviously different," Kyle Kinston said. "It’s the kind of liking where you would spend a lifetime together, relying on each other."
