Elder Kinston's Exclusive Sweet Wife

Chapter 1531 - 1572: Heartache

  • Next Chapter

Jeremiah May saw from a distance a tiny figure rummaging through the trash bin in the courtyard, and a memory flashed through his mind of what his uncle had said to him not long ago: "Oh right, didn’t you give a poster to that little one called Nannan before?"

"Uncle, why are you asking that?" He didn’t answer and instead asked back.

"It just came to me suddenly. Yesterday, before Mireille left, she said that she carelessly tore the poster when she was playing with that little one." Old Master May said. She claimed it was an accident, but who could really tell whether it was truly unintentional?

But of course, that kind of thing wasn’t something Old Master May would care much about. That girl Mireille, in Old Master May’s eyes, had a bit of scheming to her, though her scheming wasn’t exactly very sophisticated. It was only because Madam Li had acknowledged her as an external granddaughter that Old Master May treated Mireille well.

If it weren’t for that layer of connection, Mireille Yowell most likely wouldn’t even have made it into Old Master May’s line of sight.

As for why he suddenly brought this up, Old Master May was purely teasing, "Didn’t expect at your age you’ve already got little girls vying for you, getting jealous over you. So, do you like that girl Mireille? If you’re interested, then helping her and her mother climb up in status in the future wouldn’t be any trouble."

But right now Jeremiah May was no longer listening to whatever Old Master May was saying. All his thoughts were focused on what Old Master May had said just before.

The poster... wasn’t torn up by the little one at all, it was Mireille Yowell! So that means he misunderstood?

Jeremiah walked out of the main house a bit absentmindedly, and after going only a short distance, he saw that tiny figure rummaging through the trash bin in the courtyard.

Because she was digging through the trash, bits of garbage were stuck all over her clothes. She looked filthy, pitifully disheveled.

Yet the little one seemed completely unfazed, stubbornly continuing to search.

Only when Jeremiah drew closer did he finally understand what she was looking for. Beside her lay several scraps of a poster, all of them pieces she had dug out of the trash bin.

Every time she fished out a scrap from the bin, she would carefully place it to the side, as if it were her treasure.

In that instant, it felt as though something had slammed into his chest, heavy, carrying a kind of pain that left him struggling to breathe.

How... how could he have misunderstood her? That day when he gave her the poster, she had clearly been so happy, clearly treated that poster like a precious treasure.

Just because she’s a fool? Is that why he so easily concluded that she was the one who tore up the poster? So easily assumed that the rare kindness he showed was casually trampled by her?

She might be slow, but from another angle, she was also so very pure. If she likes something, she just likes it; if she’s happy, she’s simply happy. She made people feel they didn’t need to guard themselves or worry about anything.

Jeremiah walked up to the little one and crouched down, saying, "Nannan, don’t look anymore. I’ll get you another poster exactly the same later."

The little one saw him and her small body jolted in shock. Then she hurriedly said, "Nannan will find it, will find it! Young Master gave Nannan the Shangshang, Nannan really treasures it, really treasures it..."

Jeremiah felt a wave of deep discomfort.

And as the little one spoke, her expression turned sad. "Nannan wanted to protect it... but the little miss tore it. Nannan couldn’t do anything... Nannan has to find the pieces. Mommy said they can be put back together."
