Chapter 1359 - 1398: Letting Go

Mabel Quinn didn’t push Atlas Shaw away, nor did she lean back. She just kept that calm expression and said, "No. Even if there really is any feeling, it’s only gratitude. And Atlas, the one you love actually isn’t me. It’s just that my desire to stay alive made you curious. Because life, to you, doesn’t seem like something very interesting, so you long to understand the reason for living. But I can’t give you that reason. Sooner or later, you’ll meet someone who can. That person is the one who will truly matter to you, the one you should spend the rest of your time in this life with."

Atlas Shaw fixed his gaze on the woman in front of him. She was the first woman he’d ever met whom he found interesting, and it was the first time he’d ever wanted so much to get to know someone—to understand that yearning she had to go on living, to grasp the meaning of survival through her.

If it weren’t her, would he ever meet another woman who could make him feel this way in the future?

If he never met one again for the rest of his life, then if he let go now like this, would he not regret it?

"Am I less charming than Kyle Kinston?" he murmured. Was that why, after these six years, she had never felt that way about him?

"No," she said. "You’re very charming. In front of the camera, you’re without a doubt the most eye‑catching. Back then, when I watched the first film you acted in at sixteen, I already couldn’t take my eyes off you."

"Only in front of the camera?" He let out a small laugh, but in that laugh was a hint of self‑mockery. "What about me behind the camera?"

"You’re a friend, a benefactor, someone I can never forget in my whole life. I’ve never thought you were any worse than Kyle. It’s just that in my heart... the only person I’ve truly loved is him." Mabel Quinn paused and said, "Sometimes, I’m actually a very old‑fashioned person. It’s like when I really like a toy— even if later that toy breaks, gets dirty, even if I get better toys afterward, the one I truly like is still that one."

So, for the rest of her life... would she never fall in love with another man? Or should he say, for the rest of her life, would she keep on rejecting him like this?

Atlas Shaw lowered his eyes. After a moment, he slowly straightened up, his thin lips parting slightly. "Then can you be sure now that Kyle Kinston won’t hurt you again in the future?"

Mabel Quinn said, "I can’t be sure. But with feelings, you have to walk through them to see. If I don’t even dare to try, I’m afraid I’ll regret it in the future."

"Then in the future, if Kyle Kinston hurts you," Atlas Shaw said, "just let me know. Even if he’s the sky of Falling City, I’ll still beat him up for you and Ivy, teach him a lesson."

These words also showed his stance. He had lost, but not to Kyle Kinston. He had lost to her persistence.

"Okay." Mabel Quinn gave a faint smile, and in her heart she could only hope that this man in front of her would one day meet a woman truly worth his love, who would also love him back.

The two of them looked at each other. There was so much to say, yet no more need for words.

Outside the lounge, through a narrow crack in the door, Alessia Quinn carefully peered at what was happening inside, a look of surprise and delight appearing on her face.

She hadn’t expected there to be this kind of relationship between Atlas Shaw and Mabel Quinn.
