When she just woke up, the first thing she saw was his face, making her feel as if she had returned to six years ago.

"I... I just had a nightmare," Mabel Quinn murmured, finally letting out a long sigh.

Kyle Kinston’s hand, holding a tissue, had been suspended in mid-air until now. He reached out to Mabel Quinn again, helping her wipe the thin sweat on her forehead.

"Did you dream about something from six years ago?" he asked.

She froze, suddenly unsure of what to say.

But her reaction was enough for him to know he had guessed right. "Was it about six years ago when I forced you to have an abortion, or the shipwreck you experienced?" he continued to ask.

She looked at him in astonishment, and he gave a self-deprecating smile, "It seems I’ve guessed correctly again."

"It’s all in the past," she said, but somehow, she had such a dream again. Could it be because tonight they were in the same room, and his hand had been holding hers the whole time?

"Is it really in the past?" he said in a low voice. If it truly was past, then she wouldn’t have looked at him with the same expression as back then.

These things have never truly been in the past; they just both pretended it was.

"Actually, you can let go of my hand. Tonight, they can give me any room here. I can spend the night in a room by myself," he said. "By staying here with you, I fear you won’t be able to sleep well."

"But tonight is the Full Moon, won’t the Blood Curse on you act up?" she said.

"It’s nothing, I’ve endured it over the years," he said quietly, as if it was a breeze.

But the calmer he appeared, the heavier her heart felt inexplicably.

"Is the room next door alright? I saw earlier that it’s empty," he said, walking to the door that led to the next room. This room was prepared by Edward Quinn for Mabel Quinn, designed as a suite with a door between two rooms, allowing easy movement for those in the adjacent rooms.

The room next door was originally intended by Edward Quinn for Katherine Quinn to use when she was older. For now, Katherine, who is still young, sleeps in Mabel Quinn’s room on a small bed, leaving the next room empty.

Kyle Kinston spoke while leading Mabel Quinn by the hand to the door of the next room.

Mabel Quinn was taken aback. "What are you doing? Are you really planning to spend the night alone in the room next door?"

"Actually, this is the best option; it will ease things for both of us," he said. Pain, to him, felt more like a form of atonement.

While speaking, Kyle Kinston’s free hand had already turned the handle of the next room’s door, and their intertwined hands were slowly separating, a motion he initiated by releasing his grip and withdrawing his fingers from hers.

"Kyle Kinston, do you know what you’re doing?" If not for the consideration of her sleeping daughter, she wouldn’t be speaking in such a low voice.

"Of course I do," he said, smiling slightly, seemingly unfazed by the pain he would endure shortly, "Once I’m in the room, no matter what happens, don’t look, and don’t open the door."
