Dungeon Miner Slave

It was understandable that his friends had easily reached level two. When their transmigration systems had appeared and given them their classes, they had already been on the cusp of reaching the next level.

It also helped that they had started delving into somewhat deeper floors, which meant the dungeon monsters provided a substantial amount of experience.

After reaching level two, however, that was where the difficulty of leveling up would begin.

Flinx’s friends were still in the process of calculating how long it would take them to reach level nine or ten. Level nine was when the Wish spell would become available, while level ten was when they could multiclass.

They still didn’t have any definitive data to aid their calculations because they were in the middle of determining the deepest floor they could safely delve to at their current level with the help of Flinx’s powerful elementals.

At the very least, Flinx concluded that his friends had reached a level of stability that meant he no longer needed to attend to them constantly. He could start doing his own thing, such as returning to dungeon delving or resuming his travels.

Flinx wanted to accomplish his goal of reaching Platinum Rank in the Adventurer Guild first. He believed that the rank would provide an additional layer of protection for his friends and their family members.

The next day, when the dungeon-delving group left for the dungeon without bringing anyone without a class with them, much to the disappointment of the family members who had accompanied them the day before, Flinx planned to head to the Adventurer Guild.

He understood why his friends hadn’t brought the classless members with them. They had already concluded that the dungeon wouldn’t be able to give them a class, so it was better for them to remain safe at home.

Some of the young people among them had expressed a desire to join the Adventurer Guild, just like Ambrose. With the guild’s help, they might eventually be able to obtain a melee class.

Flinx didn’t involve himself in that decision. It was entirely up to his friends and their family members whether they wanted to join any of the organizations in Ilioven that might allow them to obtain a class.

His friends had also told their family members that they would only be allowed to leave the compound once they had learned the local language. Not knowing the language could lead to misunderstandings, and misunderstandings in this world could be fatal.

The funny thing was that the children and the elderly among his friends’ family members seemed perfectly content to stay inside the compound and play.

The children still enjoyed playing with their magical nanny, which was Flinx’s wind elemental.

The elderly enjoyed the healthy bodies they had suddenly gained after being healed and cured by Flinx’s high-level Cleric spells.

The only ones eager to experience the outside world were the young people. However, since Flinx’s friends required them to learn the local language first, they asked Olivia to help them find language tutors.

Olivia first asked everyone to arrange themselves into groups so she could determine how many language tutors she needed to hire.

Unsurprisingly, the young people grouped themselves, while the older ones did the same.

The compound’s expenses continued to grow, but thankfully, the former dungeon-miner slaves had started dungeon delving. Even after only one day of delving, they realized that their income would soon catch up with their expenses.

Their mana-stone income would also increase because Flinx’s friends were still determining how deeply they could safely delve.

The deeper the floor they could reach, the greater the number of mana stones they would earn.

They had also started planning which businesses they would eventually establish. Some of them wanted to copy Flinx’s successful shop once they reached level four in their respective classes. They believed reaching level four would give them enough power to protect whatever business they started using their transmigration shopping sites.

Flinx left for the Adventurer Guild once all of the delving groups had departed. He hoped he could complete the rank-up process within a few hours.

When he reached the guild, he went to the receptionist and showed her his Diamond-rank guild badge.

“How can I help you, Sir Flinx?” the pretty receptionist asked.

“I would like to take the rank-up test to reach Platinum Rank,” Flinx told her.

The receptionist was startled and immediately asked Flinx to follow her.

She led him to the office of Semanor, the Diamond-rank Shield Warrior who had conducted his Diamond-rank rank-up test.

“We knew that sooner or later, you would request that rank. Before we grant you the right to take the rank-up test, you will need to undergo some lessons first. You need to understand the perks and responsibilities that accompany the rank,” Semanor said.

Semanor then asked Flinx to follow him.

He led Flinx into a classroom and asked him to wait there. After a few minutes, an old man entered. He looked like one of those elderly scholars Flinx had seen in books and movies.

“My name is Abericht. I’m a Diamond-rank wizard, just like you. I’m here to teach you about the responsibilities that come with receiving Platinum Rank. Currently, Ilioven has had only twenty-four Platinum-rank adventurers in total, and a third of them are currently outside the city,” the old wizard said.

“That many?” Flinx asked, surprised at the number of adventurers who had reached Platinum Rank.

“That is not many. It is just average. A kingdom the size of Ilioven would only have around a hundred people with power equal to that of a Platinum-rank adventurer or above.”

“How many Diamond-rank adventurers does Ilioven have?”

“More than three thousand.”

That answer told Flinx just how difficult it was to reach Platinum Rank.

“What would happen if I took the test and failed?”

“You would not be able to take the test again for a year,” Abericht said.

After that, the old wizard handed Flinx a book containing the details of the perks and responsibilities that came with Platinum Rank. Abericht then told him to read it and said he would return in an hour.

The book wasn’t thick, and Flinx could probably read the entire thing in just a few minutes.

Once the old wizard left, Flinx started reading the manual.

He learned that if he successfully obtained Platinum Rank, he would receive a stipend from the guild equivalent to the stipend of a Baron. He would also be granted land and formally receive the title of Baron.

The title wouldn’t be hereditary. It would apply only to him and not to his children, should he have any.

That meant that his family would be considered nobles while he was alive, but once he died, his family would return to being commoners.

The land granted to him would come with a castle, guards, and servants. It would also contain farmland that would provide additional income for him to spend on top of the stipend he received from the guild.

Aside from the guild stipend, he would also receive a stipend from the kingdom for being a noble.

That meant he would have two sources of income.

Of course, the perks came with responsibilities.

He would be responsible for ensuring that the land granted to him was properly managed. However, the manual stated that this wasn’t really an issue because most nobles simply handed over the management of their lands to their secretaries.

The title would also make him a formal citizen of the kingdom, meaning that from then on, he would be treated as a local.

If the kingdom needed his help, such as when defending itself against an invading kingdom, he would be expected to provide whatever assistance he could to protect the kingdom.
