Chapter 2911: Chapter 101: Sudden Upheaval

When they entered Area 313, they had just finished breakfast.

But now, as they walked to Area 316, it was already sunset.

However, the soldiers following Ben Lucas were all well-trained people who had experienced life and death with him, seasoned by numerous battles. Even after this journey, they showed no signs of fatigue.

Ben Lucas looked up at the sky, which was already covered by densely intertwined branches, allowing only bits of sunlight to be seen through the mottled shadows of the trees.

Ben Lucas: "Temporarily halt the advance, everyone stay alert, and quickly replenish your energy."

From breakfast till now, everyone’s stamina was rapidly declining. Although Ben Lucas knew that they would best finish patrolling Area 316 and leave here before dark to return to the Military Camp.

But throughout the journey that seemed smooth, he had a foreboding feeling.

This premonition made him slow down the pace and order all team members to replenish their energy.

Ben Lucas’s intuition told him that perhaps, a fierce battle awaited them.

He sat on the ground like the other soldiers, pulling Harrison Lucas to his side.

Harrison Lucas hurriedly opened a pack of hardtack and handed it over along with a bottle.

Ben Lucas glanced at ’him’, took it, and while eating, he asked quietly, "Harrison Lucas, what do you think?"

During military operations, he reverted to the stern and cold Major General.

This kind of stern, businesslike approach didn’t bother Harrison Lucas at all. She liked men like the Major General, upright, serious.

Harrison Lucas bit into the hardtack and glanced around with her keen eyes, "On the way here, I noticed that while this place appears untrodden, in reality, there are tracks left by frequent activity. They tried to cover them with vegetation, but if you look closely, you can see it. Major General, look over there..."

Harrison Lucas indicated with her eyes; she was the most perceptive among the group and naturally didn’t miss these subtle clues.

Ben Lucas followed her gaze and indeed saw a concealed path under the lush vegetation not far away.

Harrison Lucas: "If this place hadn’t been visited for a long time, such a pathway shouldn’t exist. Major General, you’re right, there’s definitely something fishy here."

Triumph Mountain is half within Eastonia’s borders and half within the territory of Vietnam. Eastonia’s rugged terrain on this side has always been considered a natural barrier.

The military usually sets up defenses at the foot of the mountain, with daily patrols in the dense mountain forests.

Area 316, however, hasn’t even received daily patrols over time. Ben Lucas doesn’t need to check to know what those hiding in Triumph Mountain’s interior are doing.

Harrison Lucas: "There’s an 80% chance they’re foreign armed forces and a 20% chance they’re domestic criminals colluding with them. Either way, Major General... They must have lethal weapons, so we’d better retreat first."

Harrison Lucas’s analysis is correct. As they temporarily ascended for patrol, they only brought standard firearms.

If they encounter foreign armed forces with powerful firepower, taking advantage of the terrain for an ambush, Ben Lucas might be able to deal with it, but the remaining soldiers might...

"Stop resting, return to camp immediately." Ben Lucas’s eyes darkened with resolution, and he lifted Harrison Lucas by the collar to stand.

Just as he issued the command, a strange sound suddenly came from the hill behind him.

Soon after, several bullets were fired at the soldiers beside Ben Lucas, hitting their bulletproof vests with muffled thuds and knocking them down heavily.
