Doctor Reborn as a Peasant Girl? Time to Get Rich
Chapter 64: Remember Your Promise
Chapter 64: Chapter 64: Remember Your Promise
Zhao Lan was deeply touched by her daughter’s thoughtfulness. "Oh, you. It’s only my right hand that I can’t move, not both of them. I can still eat with my left."
"Alright, Mom, hurry and eat. It’s still warm. It won’t taste good once it’s cold." She smiled and popped a piece of chicken into her mouth.
’The meat is tough and dry, and there’s no salt. It’s completely bland. Good thing it’s a pheasant, so at least it has a natural savory taste. Otherwise, I really would have spit it out.’
"Hu Feng, your cooking really leaves something to be desired..." ’Uncle Hu’s arm is broken, so Hu Feng must have been the one to cook this.’
Hu Feng acted as if he hadn’t heard, his gaze fixed on some distant point, lost in thought.
A short while later, Bai Zhi came outside carrying the empty bowl.
Hu Feng was standing right by the door, ramrod straight with his hands clasped behind his back. He seemed to exude a unique, elegant, and noble air. His profile was as sharp and distinct as if carved from stone, and his deep, pool-like eyes were filled with bewilderment about his unknown past.
She held the bowl out to him. "What are you thinking about?"
Hu Feng snapped out of his thoughts, took the bowl, and shook his head. "Nothing."
"Let me guess. You’re wondering what kind of person you used to be, where you lived, and what kind of family you had. You’re wondering why, after being missing for so long, no one has come looking for you. Am I right?"
Hu Feng glanced at her from the side, his gaze sweeping over her face. Her small, palm-sized face was covered in black and blue bruises, obscuring her true features. Only her eyes were unforgettable—clear, refined, and seemingly otherworldly.
When he remained silent, she asked, "If I manage to cure you someday and you regain your memories, will you leave then?"
"I will." He answered with almost no hesitation; the reply that slipped out was his most honest one.
She pressed, "And Uncle Hu? If you leave, what will happen to him?"
"He is my father. Wherever I am, he will be." There was still no hint of hesitation. This answer seemed to have long been rooted deep within his heart.
She breathed a sigh of relief. ’So he does care for Uncle Hu after all.’
’Uncle Hu is a good man. He went out of his way to rescue this man with no known past and has treated him like his own son, giving him his all. If Hu Feng turned out to be an ungrateful wretch, it would truly break Uncle Hu’s heart.’
"Hu Feng, I promise you, I will cure you." She tilted her head up slightly to look at the tall, imposing man before her, her eyes shining with a dazzling confidence.
He seemed taken aback for a moment, then nodded. "Remember your promise." He glanced at the sky. "It’s getting late, I should head back. If you need anything, just come and find me."
He strode away and, like a gust of wind, quickly vanished from her sight.
Just as she was about to turn and head back inside, Old Mrs. Bai and Liu, who had been lying in wait behind the main house’s door, rushed out.
"You wretched girl, hand it over now!" Old Mrs. Bai bellowed, her old face pulled into a long scowl.
Bai Zhi patted her stomach. "I’m afraid I can’t produce it right now. You’ll have to wait until tomorrow, at least."
Hearing this, Liu was so furious she stamped her foot. "You little bitch, you ate it all?"
Bai Zhi’s expression instantly turned cold. "Who are you calling a bitch?"
Liu pointed a finger at Bai Zhi and cursed, "I’m calling *you* the bitch, of course! We raised you for twelve years, only to nurture an ungrateful wretch! And now you’ve learned to hoard food for yourself! Don’t you forget, you’re a member of this Bai Family. Anything that comes into the Bai Family home belongs to the Bai Family. There’s no reason for you to enjoy it all by yourself!"
Bai Zhi snorted coldly. "If a bitch calls me names, I’ll take it. What can you do when a bitch has such a foul mouth? But for a bitch to call *me* an ungrateful wretch—now that’s something I can’t accept."
