Chapter 670: Chapter 662: I Have to Say

Just as Amelia Avery was about to leave, Ian Shaw’s cold voice rang out again. "Stay right where you are! I’m calling Cassian Jennings to come pick you up."

"No, don’t! I don’t want him to come get me," Amelia Avery exclaimed, as if suddenly startled.

"What? Did you do something to feel guilty about? Afraid to go home now?" As Ian Shaw spoke, he glanced toward Leo Joyce.

The meaning behind his gaze was obvious. It was a warning to Amelia Avery: a married woman should stay out of places like this, and she certainly shouldn’t be spending time with someone like Leo Joyce.

Besides, everyone in Tridell knew Amelia Avery was the woman Leo Joyce had been not-so-secretly in love with for years.

Even Tiana Grayson’s place in Leo Joyce’s heart likely couldn’t compare to Amelia Avery’s.

Amelia Avery’s eyes were red-rimmed, as if she had been genuinely wronged. But she, who rarely cried, lowered her head slightly and bit her lip hard, warning herself, ’Don’t cry! Otherwise, these people will look down on me! Especially Ian Shaw!’

She knew Ian Shaw had always looked down on her. In his eyes, she was a scheming bitch who had used every trick in the book to climb into Cassian Jennings’s bed and then ensnare his heart.

Ian Shaw had even told her to her face on multiple occasions that if it weren’t for her brother’s status, he would have already slapped her countless times.

Ian Shaw was a man who did what he said he would, and his personal code never included a rule against hitting women.

So, in front of a man who despised her so much, Amelia Avery absolutely could not allow herself to seem any more pathetic in his eyes.

Although Amelia Avery had settled into a quiet, proper life with Cassian Jennings, Ian Shaw, being an insider, knew that things weren’t easy for her. Mr. and Mrs. Jennings didn’t show any open hostility toward Amelia, but in reality, they couldn’t stand her and often made things difficult for her behind the scenes.

This also had to do with Amelia Avery faking her death.

The Jennings Family had paid a heavy price for Amelia Avery’s faked death.

Originally, the Avery and Jennings families had been close, but because of the faked death, their relationship had become completely irreconcilable.

As a result, the Jennings Family came to resent the Avery Family, believing them to be completely unreasonable, while the Avery Family felt Cassian Jennings had wronged their daughter and deserved the punishment he was getting.

Even though Amelia Avery had now married into the Jennings Family, the relationship between the two families remained in an extremely awkward state.

’This is all Amelia Avery’s fault, but the woman in question still looks like she’s the one who’s been wronged. A "sister" like that... good thing she’s not mine. If she were my sister, I’d have crippled her!’

’That’s just what happens with children who are spoiled rotten from a young age.’

’His sister, on the other hand, had been sent out to be tempered ever since she was old enough to understand things. She was so much less trouble than other people’s sisters. (Well, she was a handful when it came to marriage, but in all other respects, she was a good girl who didn’t cause worry. Then again, her troubles with marriage were probably inherited from him. He was just that type of heartless person, not someone who’d starve himself or cause a scene over love.)’

’And Cassian Jennings, even though he married Amelia Avery, wasn’t necessarily any happier than before.’

’He’s busy with work every day, and when he gets home, he still has to wait on his little empress.’

Of course, these were all just Ian Shaw’s own opinions. He had no idea that for Cassian Jennings, being able to cook a meal for his wife after work was the most fulfilling part of his day.

’Have to admit, Amelia Avery is just so damn lucky!’

Ian Shaw sneered inwardly at these thoughts, and when he looked at Amelia Avery, his disdain was bone-deep.

"Ian Shaw! You’re going too far!"
