Chapter 885 - 884: Then Build a Home
Chapter 885: Chapter 884: Then Build a Home
The children from Fairy Tale Valley arrived.
First Snow White led her seven thunderbolt Titans through the Giant Tree Gate, then came the engineering corps Dorothy had brought over, and after that was a whole group of craftsmen and apprentices dressed like they’d just walked out of some Medieval Fantasy Kingdom—the leading craftsman was holding a flag high, with a huge cat paw painted on it.
Everyone who followed after that was basically just here to join the fun: the loud long-haired princess, the mermaid who ran over and immediately started filming with her phone, Cinderella driving a pumpkin carriage and flying straight out from the gate, plus a big bunch of kids with bobble-heads cheering their heads off.
Little Red Riding Hood rode her Shadow Seat Wolf up to Yu Sheng, a bit of resignation on her face: "I actually planned it out pretty well, first batch was only supposed to be the King and Snow White, but Big Golden Hair got so excited he yelled and hyped everyone up..."
She hadn’t even finished when a ball of golden Wind Rolling Grass had already rushed over, and the long-haired princess spun twice around Yu Sheng in the blink of an eye: "Bro, bro! I’ve been looking forward to this forever, you know? Ever since Luna sent that video back, we’ve been wanting to come have a look! This place is even prettier than in the video..."
"Don’t worry, bro, we won’t cause trouble~" The mermaid who was wandering around filming everything with her phone also drifted over at this moment; she gave Yu Sheng a sweet smile. "We brought tons of stuff too. I heard you might be short on food over here—the Hunter asked us to bring over more than ten jin of dried mushrooms, and the squirrels sent two baskets of berries and hazelnuts, the canteen sent six jars of their own pickles, and Jack contributed twelve tons of beans..."
Yu Sheng was bewitched by the mermaid’s harmless-to-humans-and-animals look. He listened and nodded through the first half, even feeling touched at how considerate these kids were—then after the last sentence he froze for two seconds before suddenly sensing something was off. By the time he wanted to speak up, the mermaid had already walked off with her phone held high...
And as she walked she kept muttering to her phone: "Follow yuyu official, follow yuyu official, thanks meow~ Ah, thanks to ’Amphibious-Tri-Mode Cold-Resistant Mosquito Braving the Graduation Defense’ for gifting the spaceship... Later the streamer will take a walk around and show you the surroundings, okay? There’s a huge lake here! If we get enough gifts for three spaceships, the streamer will go for a swim..."
Yu Sheng looked at the mermaid’s receding back, both amused and helpless, when Hu Li’s voice came from beside him: "...Savior, where exactly did you put the door on the other side? How come Snow White’s thunderbolt Titans can just walk straight out of it?"
Yu Sheng chuckled at that, raising his hand to point at the magnificent gate that could be described as a wonder: "A door this huge definitely wouldn’t fit in the hub hall, so I stuck it outside the pyramid, right on the empty ground facing toward Fairy Tale Town..."
When Yu Sheng said this, Hu Li didn’t react much, but Erin, who was sitting on his shoulder, instantly kicked her imagination into gear—as everyone knows, this little thing’s imagination runs wild. She crossed her arms and rocked back and forth for less than two seconds, and a picture formed in her head: a pyramid, a door stuck in front of the pyramid, that shape, that size, that layout...
The Little Puppet suddenly clapped her hands: "Isn’t that just sticking a tombstone in front of a grave mound?!"
Yu Sheng hadn’t even remotely thought in that direction, but the moment he heard Erin shout, he was instantly stunned.
The Little Puppet even patted his head to comfort him: "Oh come on, don’t overthink it. This whole mess with the Boundary Land between the New World and Old World has been spinning around your grave from the start. Now the biggest Teleportation Gate between the two worlds ends up with this look and this symbolism—that’s just ’symbolic effect’ doing its thing. And it’s not like you have a choice anyway; moving something this big again would be a huge pain, and the old tree is absolutely not willing to go through that hassle one more time."
Yu Sheng thought for a moment and in the end could only let out a long sigh.
Meanwhile, all those hundreds of Dark Moon People who had just woken up by the lakeshore and still hadn’t fully come to their senses were completely dumbfounded—
When the thunderbolt Titans appeared, they thought it was the local ruling species showing up. When Dorothy’s engineering corps and transport trucks came out, they could at least tell it was an army. But the lineup that came out of the gate right after that was way too complicated: there were people riding wolves to keep order everywhere; people driving pumpkin carriages and flying wildly among the treetops; people holding some strange communication device and talking to themselves by the lakeshore while doing warm-up exercises to get ready to jump into the water; and a huge gaggle of shrieking kids running all over the place, sky and ground...
Then a cat ran out of the gate and joined the wolf riders in maintaining order.
How to put it... It gave them this illusion that none of them had actually come back to life, and they were still in the Sanctuary, half suffocating while their life flashed before their eyes...
At that point, clearly the only option was to ask the Magical Queen what was going on.
"...They’re Yu Sheng’s friends," Red explained to the tribespeople gathered around her, "They came to help. Knowing that is enough."
Since the Queen had said so, the Dark Moon People no longer questioned it, and they went back to following Red and Sela’s arrangements to do their respective tasks.
More "fruit" fell along the lakeshore, and batch after batch of Dark Moon People woke from their slumber. The ones who had awakened early were responsible for caring for and guiding their newly awakened kin, while another group handled transporting supplies and distributing rations. Red and Sela specially picked out another group of people to work together with the Fairy Tales members who had come to help, and take charge of building the Lake Heart Island camp.
At first the scene was absolute chaos—after all, whoever you are, the first time you deal with the wildly diverse Fairy Tales teams, you’re bound to be confused for a while. But very soon, those Dark Moon People who had just awakened from their long sleep showed an adaptability and organizational ability that even surprised Yu Sheng, along with obedience and survival skills.
They grasped the situation almost in the blink of an eye, understood whose orders to follow, and what work needed to be done first. Their first move was to figure out the current supply situation on Lake Heart Island and confirm how many people the existing supplies could support; next, they immediately began asking around how to solve the issue of future supplies.
After learning that the big gate could continuously send over bulk supplies, they showed a brief but restrained joy. Soon after, some of them went to find Red again, asking how they should gather resources and collect food in this land...
It all felt like they’d rehearsed this a thousand times, and also like it was simply instinct to them now.
Yu Sheng stood on a bulging giant tree root by the lakeshore, watching the tense and busy scene in front of him.
The situation on site was no longer that chaotic. There were still occasional unexpected issues, but the basic order had already been established.
The supplies Baili Qing had sent included a batch of emergency tents. Those tents were now pitched on the open ground beside the giant tree, used to settle the people who had just woken up. The fruits that fell from the Angel Giant Tree were first dragged into the tents; the Recovering People needed to stay inside until their own condition stabilized, and during that time they would receive the most basic explanations and guidance about the current situation.
Dorothy and the others had also brought a batch of building materials from the valley, many of which were "borrowed" from Sun’s construction site. The kids planned to first build a row of simple houses on the flatter areas of Lake Heart Island, just like the temporary settlement Fairy Tales had when they first moved into the valley.
Red had told Yu Sheng about her future plans. She said she hoped to build the Dark Moon People’s first city in this world on the plains across the lake, then expand outward from that city as a center, to house the clansmen who would be resurrected in the future.
To be honest, Yu Sheng had no objections, and not much of a concept of it either—though for some reason, whether it was Lucrecia or Baili Qing, everyone seemed to quietly default to him being the one in charge of this place. But in fact he didn’t care at all what Red and her people planned to do on this Floating Continent.
He only wanted to see everyone live well here—live well, die well, and just go through the life that originally belonged to them.
Yu Sheng sat down on the big tree root, grinning happily.
Not far away, Dorothy was bustling around with her tinplate combat engineers, fiddling with the water purification equipment Baili Qing had brought. The complex large device looked very high-end, but Dorothy merely went over and said a few words to its valves and pipes, and the whole system started humming and rumbling to life.
Then after a while, Dorothy belatedly noticed the generator placed on another rack, and hurried over to connect its power output to the purification unit.
—As for discovering later that the generator still needed fuel cartridges, that was an even later problem.
"We need more people over here!" Snow White was riding on the shoulder of a Thunderbolt Titans at the edge of the camp, calling out loudly, "Anyone who understands water supply and drainage, or knows a bit of construction, come report over here!"
A group of Dark Moon People who had only woken up recently stepped forward. The 10-meter-tall Titan Giants still made them nervous, but they still braced themselves and came up to sign on.
The crown of the Angel Giant Tree rustled softly as its branches and leaves swayed in the wind.
"For the next batch...I’ll prioritize ’hatching’ craftsmen..."
The Tree Angel spoke in a slow drawl.
Yu Sheng was very surprised. "Old tree, you can choose who to resurrect too?!"
"Not very precise...but I can vaguely filter a bit. If Rosaline helps, it can be more accurate..."
Yu Sheng waved at the big tree with a smile. "Alright, you two figure it out between yourselves."
Night gradually fell.
The arc of light spanning the sky turned into curtains of aurora drifting everywhere. The spectacular Suspended River flowed and cascaded among the curtains, while the fluorescent plants on the plains across the lake swayed in the wind like undulating patches of night-fire.
The temporary camp by the lakeshore now had a rough form. Neatly lined tents stood in the night breeze, and two rows of simple houses had been set up between the roots of the Angel Giant Tree. The lamps hanging at the house doors and along the camp’s edge gave off a gentle glow, pushing back the darkness and also dispelling the unease and nervousness brought on by this unfamiliar land.
—By the way, because time was short, only about half of the camp’s lights had actually been wired into the circuit. The other half were completely bluffed by Dorothy and didn’t even know they weren’t hooked up to any cables; they were basically the kind that see other bulbs shining and just idiotically light up along with them.
And then, the kids lit a grand bonfire on the lakeshore.
