Chapter 879: Chapter 878: A Brief Respite for Life

Having stood in Valhalla for just a few minutes, Red had already been shocked several times — but after a brief daze, she quickly came to her senses and remembered why she was brought here.

She looked at Yu Sheng standing beside her with a smile, and her expression quickly became serious: "About what you said earlier..."

"Oh, yes, there’s something important," Yu Sheng nodded lightly and then gestured in the direction of the Crystal Holy Tree, "Come with me, I’ll show you something."

The sound of rocks moving and grinding came from beneath the terrace, and a floating bridge emerged from the church’s architectural structure like the limb of some creature, extending from the edge of the terrace all the way to the foot of the Crystal Holy Tree.

Red followed Yu Sheng without knowing why, walking along this bridge into the courtyard where the Crystal Tree was rooted.

The magnificent Holy Tree stood before them, its crystalline trunk towering like a Giant Tower, with a faint Holy Light flowing along it, resonated by a melodious hum in the air.

Red unconsciously stepped back half a step — although the flowing Holy Light didn’t burn her, the familiar aura in the Holy Light made her instinctively nervous, fearing that some living creature of Holy Light might suddenly leap down from the tree and roast her...

She didn’t want to crawl into any more sacks... Not even pink ones.

"Don’t worry, Freyia is sleeping now, and she won’t randomly pounce on you anymore," Yu Sheng smiled and shook his head at the scene, then looked in a certain direction and called out a name, "Rosaline."

It was only then that Red noticed another figure in the courtyard — a girl dressed in a white skirt with green edges, who looked about eleven or twelve years old, was sitting on a chair next to the Crystal Tree.

A large drawing board stood in front of the girl, on which she was quickly smearing something, while a particularly tall figure clad in heavy armor stood beside her, silently guarding.

Upon hearing Yu Sheng’s voice, the girl who was busy drawing quickly waved happily towards them.

After a brief daze, Red quickly remembered the identity of the opposite party — the Knight father and daughter saved by Yu Sheng during the Lodaxim High Wall incident.

Meanwhile, Yu Sheng had already begun walking towards Rosaline, casually asking, "Is it finished?"

Rosaline nodded lightly and turned the drawing board.

The astonished Red stopped abruptly, staring straight at the contents on the drawing board.

It depicted a... person, with art skills that were mediocre and even crude and childish, contained within were anatomical views of the human body from various angles, the paper densely covered with smears, including some abstract-looking anatomical structures, while the most conspicuous part of the whole image featured a solitary heart—like an irregular stone, entwined with thorn-like tissues.

Red slowly walked forward, her expression filled with hesitation and surprise.

The structure... was correct.

The crude and rough strokes depicted the physiological structure of an Otherworld race long disappeared into the river of time, the skewed pencil lines seeming now to wriggle and tremble as if about to come alive in her vision, even faintly exuding the power of vitality.

"The drawing isn’t great," the "Dark Angel" named Rosaline said somewhat self-consciously to Yu Sheng, the girl holding a pencil in one hand and scratching her hair with the other, "I was worried it wouldn’t be ’accurate’ enough, so I added a lot of limited descriptors to prevent them from getting mixed up with other data, which is why the image looks messy."

Yu Sheng seriously examined the rough "design draft" and suddenly laughed after a few seconds, "...It’s sufficient as a ’matrix.’"

He then removed the drawing paper from the drawing board and flipped it to the back — almost simultaneously, a line of text was quickly imprinted upon the paper.

"The Dark Moon Royal Court’s citizens — they have waited a long time, the queen finally brings good news."

Red stared dumbfounded at the line of text shimmering on the paper, seemingly vaguely realizing something.

"Then my dad and I will head back first!" Rosaline waved to Yu Sheng, "I’m drawing our house, and once it’s finished, you have to come visit!"

Yu Sheng laughed, "Of course, I’m looking forward to it."

Rosaline turned happily, drawing in the air with her pencil a few times, and a giant beast appeared out of thin air in the courtyard, a creature with a lion-like mane and posture, its body seemingly carved from marble.

It was the guardian of the Lodaxim High Wall, Giant Beast Glon.

The knight clad in black armor solemnly saluted Yu Sheng, then climbed onto the beast’s back with his daughter — accompanied by the sound of an eraser brushing paper, their figures quickly disappeared, descending through the air.

Yu Sheng solemnly placed the picture Rosaline had just completed on the ground beneath the Crystal Tree, then raised his hand: "Luna..."

A golden figure instantly burst forth from the direction of the corridor in the courtyard, the Holy Sword in its hand slashed open a blood-letting cut on Yu Sheng’s arm.

Yu Sheng looked down at his arm, pondering that the Holy Sword indeed wasn’t as nimble as the Fingertip Blade, if this were in the real world, Luna would at least have to carve a circle of decorations around his wound, and if space were ample, she’d add half an aquatic scene too.

Yu Sheng shook his head, and then a few controlled drops of blood fell onto the paper.

In the blink of an eye, the paper was soaked with blood, and the anatomical drawing on it dissolved into the blood.

The next second, both the paper and the blood silently disappeared. In the eyes of Red, which gradually widened, a stream of light fell between the branches of the Crystal Tree — it seemed that some kind of data was being infused into the tree, followed by a reconstruction of the soul level. Almost instantly, the lights falling from the Crystal Tree began to take human form.

Red stared in astonishment at this scene. When she finally recognized several familiar outlines, she could no longer maintain her composure and rushed toward one of the phantoms.

That phantom presented a blurred face, and it seemed to recognize Red, showing a look of surprise and joy.

However, in the next second, Red passed directly through the shadow.

She turned around, facing the phantom that still wore a look of surprise and confusion.

But at this moment, Yu Sheng’s voice came from beside her, quickly bringing Red back to clarity amidst her slight confusion: "Don’t worry, it’s still a bit unstable now, and the ’matrix’ provided by Rosaline is not enough to sustain them gaining true ’life’."

Red turned her head and fixed her gaze on Yu Sheng’s eyes. She opened her mouth several times as if she wanted to say something, but at this moment, she found it difficult to formulate a coherent sentence, despite her usual calmness.

Finally, she managed to squeeze out a dry sentence: "...How did you do it?"

"Boundary Land is different from other Dark Angels," Yu Sheng looked into Red’s eyes and slowly said, "The other Dark Angels were merely broken corpses when entering this universe, but Boundary Land... it was first an ark."

Red blinked, her expression changing rapidly.

"Perhaps even you haven’t realized what the vast data structure of Boundary Land and its stable operation over the years mean," Yu Sheng continued while organizing his thoughts, "And on the other hand, when you looked directly at the Red Moon back then, it was equivalent to providing a layer of protection to the Dark Moon Royal Court — you engraved the doomsday of the Hometown World in your eyes, but what was engraved at the time wasn’t just a scene of doomsday."

Red listened blankly, involuntarily recalling the deepest part of the nightmare in the Dark Moon Royal Court, beside that rippling blood-red ocean, and the blood-colored spear in Yu Sheng’s hand that stabbed towards her.

"Kill the moon..."

She remembered that’s what she said at the time.

But what happened after that? After Yu Sheng killed the moon, when the blood-red ocean swallowed her and Yu Sheng, when they both melted into the bloody sea of the Red Moon...

"I performed a Blood Transfer for the entire Dark Moon Royal Court," she heard Yu Sheng say softly from beside her, "I granted you and your kind death, and I granted you and your kind rebirth — henceforth, you all have a place in this world."

Red stared blankly at Yu Sheng, and under the light of the Crystal Holy Tree, those familiar or unfamiliar figures surrounded her. Some of them still wore absent, hollow expressions, while others seemed to start trying to understand the situation.

"I ’ate’ your moon," Yu Sheng met Red’s gaze and smiled as he pointed to himself, "You know, ’death’ always has a good appetite."

Then Yu Sheng adjusted his expression and raised his hand to point around.

"But as you can see, I’ve only initially separated them out, and only a part of them.

"What I swallowed was a chaotic and incomplete data structure, which included both your empire’s citizens and a lot of useless discarded information, and even some dangerous pollution data...

"To be honest, it’s much more trouble than the World Bridge was initially."

Red listened to what Yu Sheng was saying while noticing that the nearest phantom was gazing at her with a somewhat dazed expression. Red was momentarily dazed but recognized that it was her former maid — those eyes were as bright as she remembered.

The phantom blinked, seeming to suddenly recognize her mistress, and walked toward her joyfully. But the next second, her figure silently dissipated into the air.

"Don’t worry, I just temporarily sent them back into the Crystal Tree," Yu Sheng said from one side, "The separation work is still ongoing, and what you see now... these spiritual bodies, are still incomplete. They can’t exist independently outside for too long. There’s also another reason: the ’matrix’ that Rosaline created doesn’t have a high compatibility with them. I’m still searching for a more suitable solution to this problem."

Yu Sheng paused and spoke earnestly: "My ultimate goal is not just to recreate a batch of unstable ghosts in Valhalla — I plan to allow them to enter the real world."

"You..." Red opened her mouth, and after much deliberation and calming her emotions, she finally said, "This might sound a bit awkward, but why... do you want to go this far?"

Yu Sheng laughed.

"Do you remember the moment you were pulled into the Mirror Rift?" he casually said, "You said ’save...’, and I thought for a long time, and I felt it wasn’t like you were asking for help for yourself. Later, I realized you wanted me to save ’them’.

"Well, since that’s the case, what more is there to say, anyway it’s just a matter of course — you’re welcome, all friends."
