Chapter 1031: Chapter 486: First Meeting, Second Meeting, Third Meeting (First Update)
Mr. Zhuge, upon hearing this, nodded empathetically and said, "Who hasn’t been young once? These young people nowadays, daring because of their youth, can even destroy other people’s families and still have the nerve to do other bad things."
Lawrence Winters: "..."
Although she was engrossed by the story, she knew this was only Mrs. Fang’s side of the story.
The ancients understood "listening to both sides leads to clarity, listening to one side leads to obscurity," and Mr. Zhuge, seasoned in feng shui and face reading, wouldn’t be easily fooled by a few words from this middle-aged woman, would he?
Lawrence Winters looked around and understood Mr. Zhuge’s words.
It seemed to criticize Miss Tang for her role in disrupting Mr. Yu and Mrs. Fang’s family, but in reality, was it a veiled rebuke?
Otherwise, why emphasize the term "young people"?
Lawrence Winters, considering her "advanced age" of twenty-one, felt she could still be called a "young person" in front of Mr. Zhuge and Mrs. Fang.
Of course, despite feeling differently, she didn’t directly refute Mr. Zhuge’s words, instead complimenting Mrs. Fang, saying: "Mrs. Fang, elegant and graceful, although no longer young, still has the charm from her prime."
Mrs. Fang: "..."
Mr. Zhuge smirked slightly, saying, "Lawrence, didn’t you grow up in the country? Why is your Mandarin not as good as mine, who grew up abroad?"
Lawrence tilted her head, eyes gleaming with innocent courage, and asked, "What’s wrong? Did I say something wrong?"
"Do you think you’re correct?"
Lawrence counted with her fingers: "Isn’t Mrs. Fang elegant and graceful?"
Mr. Zhuge nodded, "Certainly, Mrs. Fang has an extraordinary aura; clearly from a good background."
Lawrence extended her second finger: "Isn’t Mrs. Fang no longer young?"
"Yes, she’s over forty, isn’t she?" Mr. Zhuge looked to Mrs. Fang for confirmation.
Mrs. Fang felt awkward, unsure how to respond, a blush rising on her pale face.
Lawrence laughed softly, helping her out, "Mr. Zhuge, you grew up abroad, yet don’t know that abroad, a woman’s age is taboo to ask casually?"
Mr. Zhuge inadvertently fell into Lawrence’s trap, feeling anger grow, coughed uncomfortably, "Alright, I apologize, Mrs. Fang, that wasn’t my intention."
"Mrs. Fang is generous and noble; she wouldn’t mind a little slip-up from you, right, Mrs. Fang?" Lawrence glanced at Mrs. Fang with a smile.
Her eyes were deep black, like a stormy mountain night, dark yet humid, with a hint of charm unseen in the night sky.
Mrs. Fang looked at Lawrence and uncomfortably averted her gaze.
In front of this incredibly youthful young woman, she had to admit she was past her prime.
Thinking of Emily Thomas, who was passionately involved with her husband, Mrs. Fang’s eyes regained determination.
She shook her head lightly, "It’s nothing, I’m indeed over forty. I married Mr. Yu early, but was always busy with work. It was only a few years ago I resigned to focus on the family."
"Our friends’ children are almost in college while ours is just in nursery. But having children later, apart from some physical strain, actually offers significant benefits in terms of time and finances."
Lawrence, smiling, looked at Mr. Zhuge, casually shifting the topic, asked: "Mr. Zhuge, isn’t Mrs. Fang still quite beautiful? Though not as beautiful as in her youth, she has mature charm, right? Isn’t that really what the phrase ’wise beyond middle age, graceful remains’ means?"
Only then did Mr. Zhuge realize Lawrence was breaking down what she had said earlier, questioning him to trap him...
Mr. Zhuge was no longer led by her, huffed, and asked Mrs. Fang, "And then what happened?"
Mrs. Fang regained her composure, and with a subdued smile, nonchalantly said, "Then we gradually grew acquainted. Both our families encouraged it, he fell for me at first sight, so we quickly got engaged and naturally married. We’ve lived together for many years, and only recently had a child."
Mr. Zhuge nodded seriously, "This makes it clear. Mr. Yu and Mrs. Fang were introduced by parents, fell in love at first sight, then married with children. Miss Tang’s mother didn’t have the chance to become involved with Mr. Yu. Later Miss Tang’s mother had Emily Thomas with someone else, apparently, Mr. Yu neither started nor abandoned Miss Tang’s mother."
