Chapter 85: Dokebai.

That wasn’t the problem.

The problem was that traveling on foot made him stand out whenever he eventually reached a town.

A knight walking alone through the kingdom was already somewhat suspicious.

A silent knight covered from head to toe in armor?

Even more so.

But riding in the back of an old man’s wagon?

That was different, since nobody would be able to spot him easily.

Osborne crossed his arms.

’This silent persona isn’t such a bad idea.’ He had already decided that speaking as little as possible would be better for him.

The less information he gave people, the harder it would be for anyone to connect him to his old identity.

If someone eventually came looking for him, there would be no reason for them to suspect some random silent knight traveling through the kingdom.

At least, that was what Osborne hoped.

’Of course, this only works if nobody recognizes me.’ His hand slowly touched the side of his helmet.

Even as his strength increased, his horns still showed no signs of growing, which made him feel relieved.

As long as he didn’t expose his demonic traits, he could still pass for an ordinary knight.

At least from a distance.

The wagon continued moving. For some time, neither of them spoke.

Osborne simply watched the forest pass by.

The old man occasionally glanced behind him.

Clearly, he wanted to say something.

Eventually, he couldn’t hold himself back anymore.

"Well... I suppose I should introduce myself properly." The old man laughed awkwardly.

"My name is Nicholas. I’ve been transporting grain between villages for quite some time now." He said, trying to strike up a conversation.

Yet all he got was silence.

Nicholas glanced backward again. The knight hadn’t moved.

"May I ask for your name?" He said, but got no response.

Nicholas waited several seconds.

Still nothing.

He eventually smiled awkwardly.

"Ah... I suppose you don’t want to say."

He turned back toward the road.

"That’s fine. You don’t have to tell me if you don’t want to."

Osborne finally stared at him.

He hadn’t expected the old man to keep trying.

Most people would have probably become uncomfortable after being ignored this many times.

But Nicholas simply continued driving.

After another few minutes, Osborne finally spoke.

"Dokebai."

Nicholas nearly dropped the reins. "What?"

Osborne remained silent. He recalled hearing the name once before in his past life while watching a certain kdrama so he figured it wouldn’t hurt to use it.

"D-Dokebai?" Nicholas tried pronouncing.

Osborne nodded.

Nicholas looked confused. "That’s your name?"

Another nod.

The old man scratched his head.

"It certainly is an unusual name." He said.

Osborne looked away.

’It’s better than using my real name.’

He had no idea whether the name even existed in this world.

That was precisely why he chose it.

There was little chance anyone would hear it and immediately connect it to Osborne Bismarck.

’Besides, nobody needs to know who I really am.’ He thought to himself.

The wagon eventually arrived at a simple town after travelling for several hours, with the road becoming busier as they approached the settlement and more people appearing along the sides of the road.

Osborne remained seated in the back of the wagon, his back resting against the wooden wall while his senses quietly spread across the surroundings.

There were many more sounds than he had become used to during his time in the forest.

He could hear the footsteps of people walking along the streets, the sound of merchants calling out to potential customers, and the voices of several people haggling over the prices of various goods.

Somewhere nearby, a blacksmith was working on something, the repeated sound of metal striking against metal carrying through the town.

There were also children laughing and running around, their voices mixing with the noise of the busy streets.

Osborne remained silent as he listened.

It was almost strange.

For more than a week, he had been surrounded by nothing but trees, animals, and the occasional sound of the wind moving through the forest.

Now, there were people everywhere.

He slowly looked around.

The town itself wasn’t particularly impressive, with most of the buildings being made from simple wood and stone, while the roads were mostly dirt and lacked the proper paving he had seen in larger cities.

Still, it was exactly what Osborne needed.

’This place might actually work.’

A small town like this was unlikely to attract much attention from powerful nobles, and there were enough people living here that someone could disappear into the crowd without standing out too much.

It was also far enough away from the Roosevelt territory that Osborne didn’t have to worry about accidentally running into someone who knew him.

More importantly, nobody here appeared to care about the strange knight sitting in the back of an old grain wagon.

That was exactly what he wanted.

The wagon continued through the town until Nicholas eventually turned toward a large wooden building.

A sign bearing the symbol of a set of scales hung above the entrance.

Osborne glanced at it.

’Merchant Guild.’

Nicholas stopped the wagon near the entrance before climbing down from his seat.

He walked around to the back and looked at Osborne.

"Please be patient for a little while, Sir Knight. I’m afraid I need to go inside and sell the goods before we can continue."

Osborne simply nodded.

Nicholas smiled awkwardly before walking toward the entrance.

Osborne remained in the back of the wagon.

He didn’t particularly care how long it took.

The town itself already gave him enough to think about.

He could stay here for a while.

Perhaps he could find some work and gather information on the side.

Building a solid foundation here didn’t sound so bad at all.

There were plenty of possibilities.

Osborne looked toward the streets again.

’First, I need to decide on a way to make money...’ Right now he basically had none.

He had deliberately left most of the valuables behind when he abandoned his old identity, and he had no intention of returning to the Roosevelt estate simply because he needed money.

If he wanted to survive independently, he would have to find another way.

After waiting for some time, Nicholas eventually returned from the merchant guild.
