Chapter 1218: Chapter 1218: As Long as There’s Somewhere to Live
"Anyway, everything is in the past now," Li Xiaoyun said. "That person has already been fired by the company. I’m with Ding Li now, he can’t hurt me anymore. He can’t even find me now."
"Initially, I was afraid you’d worry. With Ding Li protecting me, I’m fine, so I didn’t tell you. Later, when everything was resolved, as it was all over, there was no need to tell you," Li Xiaoyun explained.
"This time... it wasn’t because I was afraid of you misunderstanding, so I had to tell you. Otherwise, I didn’t plan to say anything," Li Xiaoyun explained, "However, it’s precisely because of this, living with Ding Li gave me the opportunity to understand him up close."
"Honestly, I dare say, the understanding we have of each other surpasses that of couples who’ve been in a relationship for a year and a half," Li Xiaoyun said.
Although being in a relationship for a year and a half is quite a long time, if you don’t live together, it’s hard to discover each other’s small habits and perspectives.
Both are usually busy with work, and can only spend limited, fleeting time together outside of it.
During the honeymoon period, it’s hard to see the incompatibilities between each other.
During this period, you see the other as nothing but good, with no flaws.
Completely blinded by love.
It’s only when this state gradually fades away that you start seeing things again, noticing some incompatibilities or things that you find annoying about each other.
Then there might be arguments, sometimes leading to breakups.
But this kind of discovery and adaptation needs time.
It’s not like Li Xiaoyun and Zhao Dingli, because they live together, spending all their non-working hours together.
They have plenty of opportunities to understand each other, even starting from the most inconspicuous details.
"It’s because the more I understand him, the more I like him," Li Xiaoyun said with a smile.
Zhao Dingli almost choked on his soup.
Li Xiaoyun, confessing to him in front of her parents like that, it was... so embarrassing.
However, it’s all in the past.
They’re about to get their marriage license soon. No matter how much Mr. Li disapproved of their prior cohabitation or was dissatisfied with their secrecy, there’s nothing he can say now.
Alright then.
At least Zhao Dingli is someone who is responsible all the way through.
Kids grow up, you really can’t control them.
"Are you going straight to the civil affairs bureau after dinner?" Mrs. Li asked.
"We need to go to Third Uncle’s place first, because Ding Li’s household registration book is there," Li Xiaoyun said.
So after dinner, when Li Xiaoyun wanted to help Mrs. Li clean up, Mrs. Li said, "Don’t bother with that, quickly go get the household registration book and head to get the license. There are lots of people getting married; if you go late, who knows when it’ll be your turn."
After all, there are only four bowls; it’s not a hassle, so Li Xiaoyun didn’t insist.
But she felt that it’s essential to quickly remodel the kitchen and add a dishwasher.
"Mom, once I’m less busy, I’ll help you with the remodeling," Li Xiaoyun said.
If Li Xiaoyun hadn’t mentioned it, Mrs. Li would have forgotten about it.
Yesterday noon, they were suddenly trapped by the Zhao family’s three elders, quickly setting a wedding date, leaving them utterly bewildered, unable to react properly.
Even after coming back and sleeping, by this morning, they still felt dazed and not entirely clear-headed.
How could they remember the house remodeling?
Now that Li Xiaoyun brought it up, Mrs. Li and Mr. Li remembered it.
"Just help us find a designer, and for supervising the renovation and communicating with the designer, leave that to us; you don’t need to worry about it," Mrs. Li said. "You’re busy with work, so don’t get involved."
"I’ll handle it," Zhao Dingli said. "I’ll have the designer contact you later. As for supervising the renovation, it might seem like just watching, but running back and forth can be exhausting. You have to watch out for any shortcuts taken by workers or poorly laid lines. These things are really draining."
"I’ll arrange for someone to supervise, so you two don’t have to bother," Zhao Dingli said. "Feel free to come by and see how the renovation is progressing if you want."
Suddenly, Mr. and Mrs. Li realized the benefits of having a capable son-in-law.
They don’t even need to personally oversee the renovation.
As long as Zhao Dingli speaks a word, someone will handle it.
"Just think about what style you want and communicate with the designer. If you’re not satisfied with their design, feel free to request changes; don’t hold back," Zhao Dingli handled things very smoothly.
He immediately made a call to set things up.
"Later, I’ll give you the designer’s contact information," Zhao Dingli said. "If there’s anything, just let me know."
Mr. and Mrs. Li could only nod dumbfoundedly.
"During the renovation, I have a few apartments that are vacant," Zhao Dingli said. "I’m not really sure what condition they’re in exactly, I’ll have my assistant sort it out and send them over to you for you to choose where you’d like to stay."
"My apartments should all be move-in ready, no hassle at all," Zhao Dingli said.
"Well..." Mr. Li felt this might not be appropriate.
Isn’t this taking advantage of their son-in-law?
Even if Zhao Dingli’s apartments are vacant, it’s still not fitting.
But as for why it’s not fitting, Mr. Li wasn’t sure how to accurately express it.
Zhao Dingli laughed and said, "Please don’t feel burdened at all. Those apartments are empty; no one lives there. If you don’t go, they’re just wasting space sitting there."
Mrs. Li thought to herself, people truly say wealthy folks are willful, and it’s actually true.
"Yeah, Dad, Mom," Li Xiaoyun persuaded as well, "Ding Li isn’t giving you the apartments; you’re only temporarily staying there. Why be embarrassed about that?"
Mr. and Mrs. Li thought about it and agreed.
Li Xiaoyun also said, "Try to pick one that’s close by. It’ll be convenient for you to check the renovation progress if you want."
"You child, why so many requests? Just having a place to stay is enough," Mrs. Li teasingly said.
Zhao Dingli laughed and said, "You really don’t need to be so polite. We’re all family now; if you’re this polite, I wouldn’t know what to do."
"I’m not sure if there are any nearby, so I’ll have to check after it’s sorted out," Zhao Dingli said.
"It’s okay, don’t mind what Xiao Yun says," Mr. Li said. "We’ll just pick one that’s relatively close from your options."
"Alright," Zhao Dingli nodded with a smile.
