Chapter 1217: Chapter 1217: Like Roommates Sharing an Apartment

Li Xiaoyun and Zhao Dingli began to feel nervous.

Would Mrs. Li disagree and angrily put down her chopsticks?

"I’ll get it for you now." Unexpectedly, Mrs. Li stood up and went to the bedroom.

"Mom, there’s no need to rush, you can get it after we finish eating," Li Xiaoyun quickly said.

"Now that I’ve mentioned it, I’ll just get it right away," Mrs. Li replied.

Mr. Li laughed, "Your mom is just impatient; you already know that. If she talks about doing something, she can’t relax until she does it immediately."

After a while, Mrs. Li came over with the household register and placed it on the sofa next to Li Xiaoyun’s bag.

Sitting back down, she said, "I put it next to your bag; after dinner, make sure to pack it up and don’t forget to take it with you."

"Okay."

Zhao Dingli initially thought he would need to explain fully to Mr. and Mrs. Li, and maybe even engage in some mental maneuvers to get them to agree.

Unexpectedly, things went smoothly and Zhao Dingli could not hide his surprised expression.

Even Mrs. Li noticed.

Mrs. Li smiled and said, "Xiaoyun said you’ll have your wedding in October; seeing as there’s just over a month left, holding off on getting your marriage certificate would be unnecessary."

"Even if it drags on, it would only be for a month, which doesn’t make sense," Mrs. Li explained.

It’s rare for Zhao Dingli to feel a pang of conscience, realizing he indeed pressured the parents too much.

Just like that, he got their daughter to marry him.

Without any difficulty or test.

And without giving them enough time to get to know him.

"Dad, Mom," Zhao Dingli earnestly called, sincerely saying, "Rest assured, I’ll treat Xiao Yun well. You can trustfully entrust Xiao Yun to me."

"There’s no point in making oaths. Let me say something sincere," Zhao Dingli said, "If I ever wrong Xiao Yun in any way, for any reason, and let her suffer, I’ll leave the house with nothing."

Even if Zhao Dingli leaves his house with nothing, he’s unlikely to be poor with the Zhao Family around.

The so-called, a lean camel is bigger than a horse.

Besides, the Zhao Family is not a lean camel.

With the support of the Zhao Family, he could soon rise again.

But just based on this attitude, Mr. Li and Mrs. Li feel quite affirmed about him.

Mr. Li laughed and said, "No need for that. Honestly, we have great confidence in Xiao Yun’s judgment; if she thinks you’re good, she can’t be wrong."

"Plus, the marriage hasn’t even officially started yet; today, after you get your certificate, it’s truly entering marriage. Don’t talk about such discouraging things," Mr. Li said, "Think positively, don’t start by considering the negatives."

Seeing that Mr. Li and Mrs. Li were genuinely ready and looked thoughtful, Zhao Dingli felt relieved.

"Quick, try your mom’s noodles," Mr. Li laughed, "The beef is marinated by your mom herself, the soup base is a unique recipe; I’ve been eating it for decades and always thought it was tastier than store-bought or restaurant-made. No one can surpass it. The beef noodles made with this soup base are exceptional."

"Alright." Zhao Dingli indeed hadn’t had the chance to eat yet.

However, the beef noodles emitted a tempting fragrance, enhanced by the marinade.

Originally, he wasn’t easily hungry in the morning, and he figured he could go without breakfast for the sake of his health, feeling it didn’t make much difference if he skipped it.

But now, with the enticing smell of the beef noodles, he actually felt hungry; his stomach felt empty.

Zhao Dingli first took a sip of soup.

The soup had a savory fragrance from the marinated beef.

Made with beef marinade, the beef absorbed the soup’s seasoning while the soup absorbed the rich beef aroma.

Combined together, the soup’s flavor was mellow.

Mrs. Li added a bit of chili oil to the noodles.

"I added some chili oil into the soup, just a little. See if you can handle it?" Mrs. Li said.

"It’s just right," Zhao Dingli replied.

"Don’t just be polite; speak genuinely," Mrs. Li said, still concerned.

"No, really, it’s just right," Zhao Dingli replied.

"Xiao Yun said your stomach isn’t very good. Eating spicy food in the morning can irritate your stomach, but the beef noodles don’t taste as good without a bit of spice, so I added just a tad," Mrs. Li explained.

"Actually, I can eat a little spicy food. On weekends, when we have free mornings, we drink porridge, and the pickled cucumber slices Xiao Yun makes are spicy; I eat them without any problem," Zhao Dingli said, "I love spicy food too, and often go for Chongqing hot pot with Xiao Yun. As long as I keep an eye on my stomach health, there’s nothing I’m picky about in terms of eating."

Li Xiaoyun heard something amiss and hastily nudged Zhao Dingli’s foot under the table.

But she was a bit late.

Mr. Li listened and felt something wasn’t right, "Hmm? You have breakfast together on weekends?"

Mr. Li hesitantly asked, "Are you living together?"

Though Mrs. Li had guessed this earlier, she hadn’t mentioned it to Mr. Li.

Saying it would cause him undue concern, and he might inquire too much with Li Xiaoyun.

If he asked too many questions, Li Xiaoyun would be displeased.

Now that today Li Xiaoyun and Zhao Dingli were about to get certified, previous cohabitation wasn’t much of a concern.

Who would have known Zhao Dingli would accidentally reveal it right now?

Li Xiaoyun: "..."

"We..." Li Xiaoyun bluntly stated the truth, "Because I was competing for a manager position with a male colleague at the company earlier. Although I’ve succeeded now, at the time, he lost and became particularly extreme, thinking I sabotaged him, leading to his defeat. He even found his way to my doorstep at night."

"I was terrified at the time, fortunately, Dingli drove him away. Because he was worried about me living alone and feared that male colleague might harm me again," Li Xiaoyun said, "You don’t know, the guy seemed insane, completely irrational. It felt like he could do anything."

"So, Dingli temporarily took me to live at his place," Li Xiaoyun said, "Moreover, Dingli was very gentlemanly and reserved a guest room for me. We didn’t do anything, truly. At the time, it was just a roommate relationship. Even after dating, we haven’t done anything."

Speaking such things to her parents, Li Xiaoyun felt utterly embarrassed.

"It’s like sharing a rental as roommates," Li Xiaoyun said.

Mr. Li and Mrs. Li were surprised, momentarily setting aside pondering why Zhao Dingli happened to be there when the male colleague blocked Li Xiaoyun at her doorstep.

Why was Zhao Dingli there?

Now they were wholly focused on Li Xiaoyun’s safety.

"How come you didn’t tell us about such a big issue?" Mr. Li asked anxiously.

"You see, I didn’t say it precisely because I worried you’d fret too much like you are now," Li Xiaoyun explained.
