Cultivating in Reverse: My Sign-In System Wants Me Dead
Chapter 320 - The Blessing Dragon and the Suffering Body
Chapter 320: Chapter 320 - The Blessing Dragon and the Suffering Body
The enormous lightning dragon left the tribulation clouds.
Its body twisted through the darkened sky as white-gold radiance illuminated the entire Main Peak.
The disciples who had been peacefully absorbing heavenly blessing finally opened their eyes.
Several stood immediately.
Nobody needed an Ancestor to explain what they were seeing.
The source of the blessing was coming down.
The formation reacted violently before the dragon reached it.
Every inscription surrounding the training ground brightened at once.
Huo Yan’s expression hardened.
"Do not block it head-on."
The formation elders adjusted their control immediately.
The blessing rain had already placed enormous pressure on the barrier. Meeting the entire dragon with the same resistance would only shatter the formation before it ever reached Su Bai.
The outer channels opened wider.
Formation pillars around the training ground trembled as they redirected as much escaping power as possible.
The dragon continued downward.
Its enormous head passed through the outermost layer.
White-gold lightning spread across the barrier.
The entire Main Peak shook.
More blessing spilled outward.
The disciples who had only just stood were forced to sit again when pure vitality and nourishment washed over them.
Lu Canghai looked toward Su Bai with increasingly complicated expressions.
The heavenly phenomenon was benefiting nearly everyone present.
The person who had attracted it was the only one being tortured by it.
He no longer found that amusing.
His attention remained fixed on Su Bai.
The formation opened another controlled passage.
The dragon crossed the inner layer.
Its enormous body contracted rapidly once it entered.
Hundreds of meters became dozens.
Dozens became several.
By the time it reached Su Bai, the Heavenly Blessing Descent had condensed into a dragon only slightly larger than his physical body.
Every trace of blessing it had released earlier was compressed into that smaller form.
Su Bai felt the concentration immediately.
His face changed.
"You cannot be serious."
The dragon lunged.
Its head struck his chest.
The impact threw Su Bai backward across the formation.
His Nascent Soul jerked with him through their connection, although the spiritual body itself remained untouched by the physical collision.
Su Bai hit the ground hard enough to crack the reinforced stone beneath him.
The blessing inside the dragon erupted through his body.
Vitality became corrosion. Healing became destruction. Restoration reopened injuries. Nourishment drained strength.
Su Bai coughed blood.
Before he could sit up, the dragon turned.
It rammed him again.
His ribs cracked.
The Myriad-Calamity Vajra Body reacted instantly.
Macro-Taiji circulation surged through him.
The Nascent Soul cooperated from the other side, helping maintain the balance while Su Bai’s physical foundation suffered repeated damage.
The dragon circled.
Su Bai had enough time to raise one arm.
The third impact broke it.
White-gold lightning crawled across his body as the blessing buried inside the strike reversed into another wave of agony.
Su Bai drew more Immortal Qi.
The dense energy entered his foundation and immediately began suppressing the reversed effects trying to take hold.
It helped, but the dragon hit him again.
Su Bai’s head snapped sideways.
Blood scattered across the formation.
’This is becoming unreasonable.’
Another collision drove him into the ground.
His entire back went numb.
The dragon rose, twisted in the air, and descended again.
Su Bai barely had time to restore his breathing before the next impact arrived.
The physical force was already terrifying.
The blessing inside every strike made it worse.
His Myriad-Calamity Vajra Body could adapt to repeated physical damage, and it was gradually becoming more resistant to the specific injuries the dragon kept inflicting.
The blessing effects remained more troublesome.
Reversal continued turning every beneficial property against him.
His body learned to resist the resulting harm, but the reversal itself never stopped.
That distinction became painfully clear every time the dragon struck him with a slightly different combination.
One collision left his flesh corroding.
Another made repaired tissue tear apart.
The next drained strength from his limbs.
A later strike filled him with such overwhelming reversed vitality that blood vessels burst beneath his skin.
Su Bai stopped counting.
He concentrated on maintaining circulation.
His ten Dantians continued responding.
Solid Qi needles moved through the Myriad-Path Meridian Web.
The Macro-Taiji forced Yin and Yang through his damaged physical foundation and the stable spiritual body sitting before him.
Every time Su Bai’s body approached collapse, the shared circulation helped drag it back.
The transformed Black-Ice foundation remained steady inside his Infinite Dantian.
The nine Tribulation Marks were faintly illuminated.
The Void Ring stayed idle outside them with Null State still suppressed.
The golden sprout continued absorbing whatever traces of heavenly blessing and lightning remained after the Immortal Qi weakened their hold on Su Bai’s body.
Its tiny leaf had become increasingly brilliant.
White-gold sparks occasionally jumped across its surface.
Su Bai would have enjoyed studying it under almost any other circumstances.
The dragon struck him again.
His thoughts scattered.
He rolled across the broken stone and finally managed to force himself upright.
The Heavenly Blessing Descent turned in midair.
Su Bai stared at it.
The dragon stared back.
For some reason, Su Bai felt deeply offended by how majestic it looked.
Everyone outside was benefiting from its presence.
Its scales shone like polished gold.
Its body carried enough heavenly vitality to make ordinary cultivators dream of bathing beneath it.
Meanwhile, Su Bai could barely feel his left leg.
The dragon lunged again.
Su Bai braced himself.
The impact drove him backward.
His heel carved a long groove across the stone before his balance failed.
Pain had long since stopped arriving from one place at a time.
His ribs hurt.
His meridians hurt.
His muscles hurt.
Several parts of his body were simultaneously healing, corroding, weakening and being restored incorrectly because different reversed blessings continued interfering with one another.
For the first time in a long while, Su Bai genuinely felt helpless against something hitting him.
There was no clever angle to exploit.
The dragon was made almost entirely from things that were good for everyone else.
His greatest defense against harmful effects was precisely what made the attack unbearable.
A strange thought entered his mind as the dragon turned for another charge.
’Maybe becoming a masochist would help.’
Su Bai considered the possibility with complete seriousness for half a breath.
If pain could somehow become enjoyable, his life would become considerably easier.
The dragon rammed him again.
His vision went white.
Su Bai immediately abandoned the idea.
There were limits even to personal growth.
’Ah... I want to die.’
The thought came with unusual sincerity.
Unfortunately, the heavens seemed determined to make him suffer considerably more before granting that wish.
...
Outside the barrier, nobody was smiling anymore.
Lu Canghai and the others had not been idle while the dragon battered Su Bai.
Huo Yan was already pushing the formation to its limit, constantly shifting the inner layers to bleed away as much of the Heavenly Blessing Descent as possible without collapsing the entire structure. The Peak Masters maintained the surrounding nodes, while the Ancestors had quietly gathered together several breaths earlier.
They had been deciding how far they could interfere.
Ordinary methods were almost useless against the dragon.
It was not merely lightning. Its body was the Heavenly Blessing Descent itself!
One of the Ancestors finally spoke.
"If we suppress the descent directly, we may draw the wrath of the heavens onto ourselves."
Another Ancestor kept his gaze on Su Bai, whose body had just been driven across the broken stone once again.
"So be it."
The others looked toward him.
His expression remained calm.
"If the heavens wish to punish us for protecting our junior, we can endure that punishment afterward."
His eyes stayed on Su Bai.
"His life comes first."
That ended the discussion.
The Ancestors moved together.
Their hands formed the same ancient seals, and a vast pattern of light unfolded above the training ground before descending around the lightning dragon.
Translucent chains emerged from every section of the formation.
They wrapped around its neck, limbs, body and tail before anchoring themselves into the surrounding pattern.
The Heavenly Blessing Descent roared.
White-gold lightning erupted from its body as it struggled against the restraints, shaking the entire Main Peak.
The Ancestors did not yield.
Their combined power pressed down at the same time.
The chains tightened until the dragon was dragged to a complete halt in midair.
Its enormous body trembled violently, but it could no longer charge toward Su Bai.
Lu Canghai immediately reinforced the surrounding formation with his clouds, while Huo Yan redirected the blessing spilling from the restrained dragon into the outer channels.
Only then did Su Bai finally have a moment to breathe.
He wiped the blood from the corner of his mouth and looked beyond the barrier.
His gaze passed over Lu Canghai, Huo Yan and the Ancestors holding the suppression technique together.
A trace of gratitude appeared in his eyes.
They had willingly risked drawing the wrath of the heavens just to give him this opening.
Su Bai silently remembered it.
The restrained dragon roared again and pulled against the chains, but the ancient seals only brightened further.
It could not move.
Su Bai slowly forced himself upright.
His entire body hurt, yet something within his Myriad-Calamity Vajra Body had already begun changing under the repeated punishment.
The white-gold lightning crawling across his wounds no longer damaged him as severely as before, and the corrosion caused by the reversed blessings was spreading more slowly.
His constitution had finally adapted far enough for the difference to become obvious.
Su Bai felt it immediately.
He raised his head toward the immobilized Heavenly Blessing Descent.
The dragon could no longer ram him.
It could no longer choose the distance between them.
For the first time since it had descended from the clouds, Su Bai was the one free to decide what happened next.
A faint smile appeared on his battered face.
Perhaps he did not have to wait for the heavens to decide when the first phase ended.
He could end it himself.
