Chapter 324: Chapter 200: Li Tingkui
A Tier Five Demon, a Demon Court General, was pinned to the ground by a long spear.
It struggled desperately, howling in agony.
Su Mu froze for a moment, then bellowed with all his might.
"The Demon Court General has fallen! Your defeat is certain!"
"The Demon Court General has fallen! Your defeat is certain!"
His voice carried far across the battlefield.
The demons of the Demon Court whipped their heads around, just in time to see their General howling and struggling on the ground.
Instinctively, they wanted to rush to its aid.
Su Mu had already leaped high into the air, landing hard on the Demon Court General’s head. Four Great Success Realm Concepts erupted at once as he plunged his blade into its skull.
All the demons of the Demon Court froze in shock.
For a fleeting moment, the battlefield fell completely silent.
At that moment, the great sun in the sky slowly descended toward the ground.
The figure within the great sun descended as well. He was a burly man, clad in the official uniform of a Taiping Bureau Commander-in-Chief.
He gave Su Mu a strange look, raised a hand, and recalled the long spear that had pinned the Demon Court General.
BOOM!
As the spear returned to his hand, Thunder Fire instantly erupted along its shaft.
The man made a seemingly casual thrust with his spear.
With a deafening BOOM, the bodies of all demons for hundreds of yards in front of him suddenly exploded, turning into mists of blood and gore that vanished into the air.
A single thrust annihilated an untold number of demons.
This single thrust became the final straw for the demons of the Demon Court.
A cacophony of roars erupted as the demons began to slowly back away, then turned tail and fled.
The ground quaked, kicking up clouds of dust.
Tens of thousands of demons quickly vanished in the direction of the wildlands, leaving only a battlefield littered with corpses.
Su Mu, along with everyone else, turned to look at the spear-wielding Taiping Bureau Governor.
Everyone was breathing heavily.
’Strong!’
’So incredibly strong!’
Su Mu subconsciously glanced at Yang Changfeng. ’They’re both Commanders-in-Chief, so why is the gap between them so huge?’
Yang Changfeng noticed Su Mu’s gaze and couldn’t help but roll his eyes.
’So what if there’s a huge gap?’
’So what if I haven’t mastered a phenomenon?’
’Do you think every Commander-in-Chief can master a phenomenon?’
’If I’d mastered a phenomenon, would I have let him steal the show like that?’
He turned his head away, not wanting to deal with a clueless kid like Su Mu.
The Flood Dragon, Ao Qing, moved closer to Su Mu, staring fearfully at the burly Taiping Bureau Commander-in-Chief.
Fear filled its eyes, but it stood its ground, refusing to flee.
’Even if I run, I have to take my blood-food with me.’
’This is my chance to become a true dragon!’
The burly Commander-in-Chief’s gaze fell upon Ao Qing, and a fierce killing intent flared in his eyes.
The Flood Dragon Ao Qing trembled.
"Lord Commander, it just saved us," Su Mu suddenly spoke up. "Could you spare its life? I promise I won’t let it harm anyone again."
’Before, Su Mu would have been more than happy to see someone kill Ao Qing. But after that last battle, Ao Qing had helped him immensely. It might not have been the Flood Dragon’s intention, but without its help, he, Xu Chongyuan, Zhong Guizheng, and Zhang Wangyue would all be dead for sure. Most importantly, Su Mu thought it might not be a bad idea to keep Ao Qing around. A Tier Five Demon, used correctly, could be incredibly useful. And it was rare to find a demon as obedient as Ao Qing, especially one that could be controlled with just a bit of blood.’
"Extraordinary people do extraordinary things. You can keep it, if you’re willing to raise it."
The burly Commander-in-Chief reined in his aura, and the Thunder Fire on his spear vanished. "But remember," he said, his tone amused, "if it ever harms anyone, the responsibility will be entirely yours."
"I understand. Thank you, Sir," Su Mu said with a cupped-fist salute.
He turned to pat Ao Qing on the head, only to realize the demon was too tall for him to reach.
Awkwardly lowering his hand, Su Mu said to Ao Qing, "You heard him. No more hurting people for no reason. Otherwise, I guarantee you’ll never get another drop of my blood. Understand?"
The Flood Dragon Ao Qing shrank down, transforming into a ten-foot-long, four-legged snake. It hesitated for a moment, then nodded, its eyes filled with confusion.
It couldn’t understand many things, but that wasn’t important. As long as it could get its blood-food, that was enough.
It only cared about one thing: becoming a true dragon!
The burly Commander-in-Chief clicked his tongue, inwardly amazed.
’He’d seen plenty of people raise demons. Some liked to tame them for pomp and ceremony. Using a demon to pull your carriage is far more grandiose than using ordinary horses. But those people usually only tamed unranked demons—a Tier Two Demon at the very most. Taming a Tier Five Demon? Even the Marquises of the Taiping Bureau wouldn’t dare dream of such a thing. But what was this? A mere Taiping Captain had actually tamed a Tier Five Demon? Wasn’t this a damn case of a small horse trying to pull a huge cart? Right, and this kid had just stolen the kill right from under his nose, striking the final blow against that Demon Court General. He hadn’t seen a young man with this much nerve in many years.’
He wasn’t angry at all. On the contrary, he looked at Su Mu with clear admiration.
"What’s your name?" he asked.
"Wuling Taiping Bureau, Fifth-Grade Taiping Captain, Su Mu," Su Mu replied with a cupped-fist salute, standing straight to reveal the two cloud patterns on the lapel of his uniform.
"So you’re Su Mu?"
The man froze for a second, then clicked his tongue. "No wonder..."
Just then, Yang Changfeng walked over. "Li Tingkui, what are you doing here?"
"I happened to catch a Demon Investigator. When I heard the Demon Court was attacking Hujue Pass, how could I stay away?"
