Chapter 262: Chapter 169: Breakout

Lin Qi Huan cried out.

Zhao Poni planted a kick on his rear.

"Help my ass! You think you can take on a Tier Three Demon?"

Zhao Poni cursed. "Run! Don’t hold him back!"

Zhao Poni was clear-headed and rational. He knew that with the Five Flames Heaven-Shaking Bow, Su Mu could suppress the Tier Three Demons.

But if they stayed, they would be of no help. In fact, they would only drag Su Mu down.

Only once they had all escaped could Su Mu make a timely retreat.

"ROAR!"

The mountain wind howled, and the furious roars of demons echoed from the distance.

Trees crashed down one after another as a Tier Three Demon burst from the woods, charging straight for them.

The color drained from everyone’s faces.

They could put up a fight against a Tier Two Demon, but against a Tier Three, they were utterly powerless.

BANG!

Just then, a figure shot out and collided with the Tier Three Demon in mid-air, sending it tumbling.

"What are you gawking at? Run! I can’t hold it for long!"

The figure’s longsword transformed into a shower of starlight, desperately tangling with the Tier Three Demon. He dodged and weaved, shouting all the while.

"Go!"

Though Zhao Poni didn’t recognize Xue Shan, he knew the man was buying them time.

"Son of a bitch, this silver is damn hard to earn."

Xue Shan cursed under his breath as blood trickled from the corner of his mouth.

But he managed to pin the Tier Three Demon in place.

Not far away, Wu Yiqi’s body slammed into the ground, gouging out a deep crater.

He leaped back to his feet, wiped the blood from his lips, and, as if completely unaffected, said impassively, "Again!

I am your opponent. You will not do anything else, unless I am dead."

The fury in the two Tier Three Demons’ eyes practically boiled over. How dare a mere Rebirth Realm Martial Artist provoke them so brazenly? He was courting death!

They pounced in a rage.

Instantly, a series of muffled thuds echoed through the mountain forest.

Wu Yiqi’s body was sent flying back and forth between the two Tier Three Demons like a pinball.

A moment later, he slammed hard into the trunk of a large tree and spat out a mouthful of blood, staining a large patch of his white clothes crimson.

But his expression remained impassive, his gaze fixed stubbornly on the two Tier Three Demons.

Just then, Xue Shan, fighting as he retreated, stumbled into the same area.

He was shocked when he saw Wu Yiqi’s terrible condition.

"Wu the Second, you dead yet?"

Xue Shan yelled.

Wu Yiqi had hunted him for several months in the past, but Xue Shan had never been at a major disadvantage. Instead, a strange, grudging respect had grown between them through their battles.

Eventually, Wu Yiqi had given up the chase, and they hadn’t met again until now.

Though they were more enemies than friends, Xue Shan didn’t want to see Wu Yiqi die here.

"You’re still alive, so I won’t be dying."

Wu Yiqi said.

"The way you look, you’ll definitely die before I do."

Xue Shan shouted, "Zhao Poni and the others have gotten away! We can pull back!"

Standing back-to-back, the two were surrounded by the three Tier Three Demons.

The three Tier Three Demons had clearly realized they’d been tricked—lured away from their true target.

Enraged, the three Tier Three Demons had only one thought: to tear the two Martial Artists before them to shreds.

"We can’t retreat."

Wu Yiqi said impassively, his words brief and to the point.

’Judging by the looks of these three Tier Three Demons, they won’t let us go easily.’

’And as long as Zhao Poni and his group haven’t escaped Daxing Mountain, there’s still a chance the demons could catch up to them.’

’If you start a rescue, you see it through to the end. We have to delay them a while longer.’

"Didn’t that kid say reinforcements are waiting fifty li away? Why don’t we fight our way over there?"

Xue Shan said, swinging his blade.

"Are you an idiot?"

Wu Yiqi said. He seemed to hesitate for a moment before adding, "If we lead the Tier Three Demons to them, what was the point of their escape? They’d just have to face the demons again."

"It’s different! That kid said there’s backup. That would be our home turf."

Xue Shan retorted.

He was really just talking to vent his frustration.

In truth, he had to admit Wu Yiqi had a point.

’The Wuling Taiping Bureau doesn’t have any real experts. Even if there are reinforcements, they’d be no match for Tier Three Demons.’

’Leading the demons there now would mean everyone was saved for nothing.’

’But if we delay any longer, the two of us are toast.’

"Xue Shan, oh, Xue Shan, why are you playing the hero? If those people die, they die. What’s it got to do with you?"

Xue Shan couldn’t help but mutter to himself.

"You’re a decent man."

Wu Yiqi said, his voice devoid of emotion. "No matter how humans fight amongst themselves, we can’t let demons reap the benefits.

Humans... should not die at the hands of demons."

Xue Shan pursed his lips. ’This Wu the Second is such a strange guy.’

’Dead is dead. What’s the difference between dying to a human and dying to a demon?’

"Looks like we’re about to become dead men any second now,"

Xue Shan grumbled.

"Retreat that way. We’ll rendezvous with Su Mu and make a stand in the cave."

Wu Yiqi said.

"Won’t we be cornered rats then?"

Xue Shan asked.

Despite his words, he still coordinated with Wu Yiqi, fighting as they fell back toward the cave where Zhao Poni’s group had been trapped.

......

BOOM!

Su Mu fired two arrows in quick succession.

Finally, one of the Tier Three Demons failed to block in time and was instantly engulfed in five-colored flames. After a brief, agonized shriek, it was reduced to a pile of black ash.

The other two Tier Three Demons let out furious roars. Before Su Mu could nock another arrow, they lunged at him. They were so fast that he had no time to react.
