The flesh and blood on his body collapsed like an avalanche, peeling away from his bones piece by piece.

Zuo Zuo trembled even harder, desperately trying to press his flesh back together, but it was as if everything had changed completely, as if every piece of his flesh had lost its vitality, as if he had truly become an ordinary person in this moment, losing all of his healing ability.

"Stop talking! Please stop talking!!"

She frantically dragged his body forward with all the strength she could muster.

"Where did you drop your scythe?! Zuo Zuo will take you back right now!"

"Don't be afraid! Please don't be afraid!! If you're scared, then I'll be scared too!!"

"I told you not to show off!! But you just had to do it anyway!! I know you did it for that quill, I know you have a soft heart, I know you can't stand to see others suffer, you're just that kind of infuriating person, but... but..."

"I really don't want to see this every time, watching you throw your life away without a second thought!!"

She was practically flinging her tears away as she crawled forward.

Dragging him, crawling forward without stopping.

I'm taking you home!

We're going home!

We're going back to Wandering Souls Alley, back to the Bloodsaw Potion Shop! The people you care about? I don't care about them at all!! I have nothing to do with them! I don't give a damn whether they live or die!

I... I... I...

A long trail of blood stretched out behind them, staining the floor beneath the desk crimson from Lynn's body.

The cigarette at the corner of his mouth still smoldered faintly.

His eyelids kept drooping lower and lower.

His body had long since been shattered, and to maintain that broken posture, he had been continuously overdrawing his own blood essence. And what kind of courage was it that allowed him to write those words, to face that gaze from hell directly, to keep sitting there without taking a single step back?

That was a gaze that could make even gods tremble, the source of every curse in hell.

How dare he...

How dare he!

Lynn's lips parted slightly, smoke curling lazily upward as his body was dragged along, sinking further into darkness.

But it seems...

I didn't really lose either.

Because no matter what choice you make.

You've proven that I have the right to speak with you.

Because you didn't even dare... to ignore me...

He felt as if countless shadows were swirling in his vision, forcing him to strain his eyes just to keep them open. But still, the corner of his mouth curled upward as he asked Zuo Zuo:

"Zuo Zuo, was I... at least a little cool just now?"

Zuo Zuo yanked him along with all her might, sobbing as she shouted:

"Cool!! Cool!! You're the coolest, you jerk!! You're the coolest, alright?! If you want to hear it, I'll say it to you every single day when we get back! Now shut up! Stop wasting your energy!!"

And as if he had finally heard the answer he wanted.

A small, satisfied expression flickered in Lynn's eyes.

His eyelids kept drooping.

It seemed as if something heavy was making the shadows swirling before his vision grow denser and denser, until they almost completely blocked his sight.

But he turned his head slightly.

In his drooping gaze and increasingly hazy awareness, the lonely, twisted, and deformed figure standing off by itself was reflected.

"Good night."

"This time, I can finally get a good night's sleep..."

Like a murmur in a dream.

The cigarette butt at the corner of his mouth seemed to go out as well, tumbling onto the ground.

Only vaguely did he seem to hear some kind of sound, gently drifting beside his ear, like a peaceful dreamland.

[Your recovery level has reached 13.5%]

This cigarette.

Really is damn harsh...

"Brain!!"

"Brain!!!"

......

"His condition is indeed quite dangerous. It's hard to imagine—if what you said is correct, the fact that he survived at all after trying to use that quill to challenge this hell is practically a miracle!"

"That oppressive force had an extremely negative impact on him. At the very least, until that gaze disappears, he should remain in a state of total bodily shutdown for a considerable period. In other words, his self-healing ability and Cataclysm ability, even the Colossus's Heart's maintenance of his life, have all been severely interrupted! He's been holding on entirely through sheer willpower!"

"But strangely enough, there seems to be some kind of natural domain divinity within his body. I don't know where it came from, but that wisp of divinity managed to preserve his consciousness at the critical moment."

All sorts of noisy voices kept ringing in his ears.

Through the faint crack of his half-closed eyelids.

He could vaguely make out several extremely familiar figures.

Sir Aiwen, Colossus's Brain, even the furious Big Brother Titan, the sobbing Little One, the gloomy Wushen Auntie, and so many others.

So many... so many familiar family members.

"I don't care—if anything happens to my son-in-law in your Nightfall City—then all of our connections end here—I'll make every living being in this place be buried with my son-in-law!!"

"Shut up! Stop causing trouble here!! No one could have predicted this would happen, and he's not just your son-in-law, he's also my student! Do you think I wanted to see him end up like this?!"

Fierce arguing.

It must be the Matriarch and Father-in-law clashing again.

Slowly, his consciousness drifted into an even heavier haze, as if everything around him was floating away.

Then he seemed to hear Zuo Zuo's voice.

Still as noisy as ever.

And Alice, Miss Puppet, and the crying Miaomiao.

So many people.

All of them were the family who truly cared about him, the ones he had struggled so hard to find in this cold hell.

He felt a faint sense of comfort.

Because if he were to die like this.

It seemed...

Not so bad after all.

And then he lost consciousness once again.

Time seemed to pass for a long while.

He was awakened by a series of touches, sticky yet somehow carrying a certain grief, with a few drops of icy cold water faintly falling onto his face, sliding down to his ear.

He couldn't see who it was, as if she was right there in front of him, yet still so transparent that no trace could be seen.

All he knew was.

She seemed to be gripping his hand tightly the entire time, a touch unlike any human's, yet so firm it felt as if it were being carved into his very bones.

It wasn't until she left that he heard that suppressed, low voice.

"You will never, ever die."

Like the stroke of a pen being pressed down with all its force, carving deeply into something...

A promise.

And so the next day.

He woke up.

...
