Creepy Pharmacist: All my patients are scary!
Chapter 807: Humans Have Their Limits After All
And almost at the same moment, the System's prompt rang out in Lynn's mind as well.
[Ding! The Authority you invoked has taken effect. All backlash and gazes that the target was subjected to will now be transferred entirely onto you.]
[Ding! You have invoked the Authority of Fate. You will now receive a deeper gaze from hell. Countdown to descent: Seven days.]
Lynn's calm eyes finally showed a faint glimmer of light.
Zuo Zuo watched him with a tense, trembling gaze, her voice filled with worry. "Brain... are... are you okay..."
Lynn sat there, a faint smirk tugging at the corner of his mouth. "Of course I'm fine. I've never been better."
Zuo Zuo stared at him blankly. "Then... what's happening now..."
Lynn raised his head, smiling with narrowed eyes as he gazed up at the darkness overhead. He lifted his trembling hand with great difficulty to adjust his monocle. "Ah, it's simple."
"What I wrote took effect. It agreed to my demands."
Zuo Zuo stared blankly at the blood-red writing on the parchment. For an instant.
Her entire body trembled.
His words were calm, but she knew exactly what they meant, because if that was the case... if that was the case...
"You mean... you've transferred ALL of the backlash that was on her onto yourself?! You... don't you dare mess with me right now!"
Zuo Zuo practically lunged forward and grabbed him by the collar.
Lynn burst out laughing.
Then he raised an eyebrow playfully.
"Of course I'm joking! Why are you so worked up? Worried about me?"
Zuo Zuo froze.
"Huh?"
Lynn let out a breath and broke into a bright, easy smile.
"I won. Even hell has to give me some face. It really is afraid of that power inside me, so It went ahead and cleared out the backlash inside the quill as well. Otherwise, do you think I'd still be standing here talking to you, full of energy? I'd be long gone!"
He spread his hands with difficulty.
Zuo Zuo stared at him blankly. "Re... really?"
"Of course! Why would I lie to you about something like this? The fact that I'm not suffering any backlash is proof enough, isn't it?"
Lynn wore a completely nonchalant expression.
Zuo Zuo opened her mouth, her mind completely dazed.
R... really that incredible?
Even hell doesn't dare to cast backlash upon him... could it be that even hell is afraid of that mysterious power inside Brain?
This...
This is way too surreal!
But it did seem to be exactly as he said. She could no longer sense any kind of gaze from within Brain's body, and even the faint trace that had been there before seemed to have vanished entirely.
She said in a daze, "But... but Brain, aren't you afraid? Writing something like that... you're provoking all of hell itself!"
Lynn's lips curled slightly. He set down his pen, and with hands shaking like a stroke survivor, fumbled out a cigarette. "What's there to be afraid of? I've lived this long, and there's nothing that's ever made me afraid. Hell is just hell, nothing to fear."
A brief silence.
Zuo Zuo immediately went (✪‸✪).
This...
This is so cool?!
As expected!
That Brain guy might usually be a total freak who likes to control little girls of the opposite sex, but when he gets serious once in a while, he really does have an incredibly manly aura to him!
So had she been wrong about him after all?
Brain really was the kind of person who feared no authority or challenge, a peerless badass with the qualities of one destined to become the strongest?!
This really is... really is...
So awesome!
THUD -
(A sound of slipping and falling)
"Brain! What happened?!"
"Nothing, my foot just slipped a little, that's all. No worries, Zuo Zuo. Just keep looking at me with that (✪‸✪) expression from before."
"Ugh... are you really okay? (suspicious)"
"Really, I'm fine."
THUD -
(A sound of slipping and falling again.)
"Ah! Brain!! Brain, why did you fall again?! (ΩДΩ) Are you really okay?!"
"Heh, of course I am. I just deliberately tripped myself to test your reaction. It seems you do care about me after all, Zuo Zuo. Heh, I'm quite pleased."
"What does that even have to do with anything!"
THUD -
(Another sound of falling.)
"Brain... maybe I should just help you up (blank stare). Your legs are already shaking like a sieve. I don't think you should push yourself."
Lynn let out a light chuckle as he sat on the ground. Though the cigarette dangling from his lips was trembling violently at high frequency, his hand still moved with the utmost steadiness - in that stroke-victim way - to pull out a box of matches from his chest. With a scrape across his own bone amid the high-frequency tremors, he tried with shaking hands to light that cigarette which represented pure style.
"You think my legs are weak, Zuo Zuo? Heh, then you're truly naive. I'm simply using the high-frequency vibration of my muscles to perform butterfly-stroke-style demon training."
"This advanced and sophisticated form of cultivation is something a mere left hand like you could never comprehend."
Fwoosh -
He lit that cigarette that represented pure style.
"Fine! I get it! You're doing the butterfly stroke, not weak legs, alright!! But can you please hurry up and use your ability to heal your injuries already?! Haven't you noticed how wrong your condition looks right now?!"
Zuo Zuo could clearly see the state he was in. She stared at the wounds on his body with a look of utter shock.
But Lynn remained completely unmoved, sitting there with the cigarette held between two fingers, a faint curve maintained at the corner of his mouth, keeping that handsome and stylish pose.
Yet the violent trembling showed no sign of stopping.
Even as he struggled to maintain the smile on his face.
But his lips, blue and purple.
Seemed to tremble uncontrollably.
"Hey, Zuo Zuo."
Zuo Zuo trembled. "Mm, I... I'm here..."
She was increasingly realizing that something was wrong with his condition.
He seemed...
He smiled and raised his head, gazing uncontrollably upward as he took a difficult, trembling drag from his cigarette.
"Actually... I lied to you just now."
Zuo Zuo stared at him, trembling.
Lynn kept his head raised, smoke curling around his fingers, but his eyes gradually softened.
"I thought I wasn't afraid of anything."
"But this time... Zuo Zuo."
He took a drag from his cigarette and smiled as he looked down at his own left hand.
"I was scared."
A vast silence fell.
Piece by piece, flesh peeled away from his cheeks, and crimson blood flowed uncontrollably from every part of his body, spreading out beneath his feet into a pool of bloody ripples.
Zuo Zuo's gaze trembled more and more.
She didn't know what was happening. She didn't know whether he was lying to her again like before, whether he would suddenly break into that goofy grin and laugh, calling her an idiot for believing something like that, because Lynn was a man who feared nothing under heaven or earth.
But no.
His gaze remained so gentle.
The flesh on his body, as if collapsing, continued to peel and fall away piece by piece.
"Even if my heart isn't afraid, my soul, my body, every single cell, they all instinctively feel fear. I can't control it at all. Really, this is the first time I've ever felt something like this."
He took a difficult drag from his cigarette.
Raised his head.
His face full of smiles.
"Humans really do have their limits after all..."
