Chapter 712: What Makes You Worthy to Be the Colossus's King

  • Next Chapter

Without any hesitation, Lynn snapped his head up, his gaze fixed on the direction where the black threads of the curse spreading across the sky extended.

This was the Colossus's mental space. The curse's invasion would inevitably spread toward the core of her consciousness, and as long as he followed the direction of the curse's erosion, he was bound to find It.

He leaped up in one bound.

Lynn tore through the cover of the blood mist, leaping continuously across the shattered earth, sprinting madly toward that direction.

Time flew by at breakneck speed.

And finally, just a few minutes later, as Lynn stepped through a patch of blood mist, his eyes immediately caught sight of a solitary, dim figure slumped in the distance, its back turned to him.

"Colossus's Brain!"

Lynn shouted.

In the sky above, the heavy ripples of the curse were like pitch-black vines, already spreading toward Its direction from all sides.

The glow of light on Its body was no longer as dazzling and brilliant as when It had charged the Hell's borderlands. Instead, it had dimmed to a dull, lifeless state, like a candle flickering in a gale, as if it could be extinguished at any moment.

Lynn rushed forward swiftly and stopped right behind It.

"The curse is coming any second now! What are you still doing here? Hurry up and take control of your body to fight back!"

Lynn stared intently at Its back.

But that back didn't respond. It just sat there, lonely and head-bowed, still clutching that illusory reflection of the Colossus's Heart in its hands, like a candle burning down to its last dregs in a raging storm.

Lynn's brow furrowed slightly. He was about to step forward.

But just then.

Crack—

A sharp, thunderous sound suddenly exploded in Lynn's ears.

And in that very instant, Lynn's expression shifted dramatically, because with that massive cracking sound, a colossal fissure violently emerged on the body of that illusory figure, and densely packed cracks spread rapidly around its form along with the gap that had opened.

At that moment.

Lynn almost instantly understood what It was doing!

It was shattering its own consciousness! It wanted to bury its own mind completely here, right before the curse descended!

"Are you out of your mind?!"

Without any further hesitation, Lynn roared, spinning three hundred and sixty degrees in a back-kick that landed his heel squarely on that frail figure.

Bam—

To Lynn's own surprise, Its body was sent flying sideways from the force of his kick. The illusory image of the Colossus's Heart in Its hand tumbled heavily to the ground, while Its silver pupils were nearly devoid of life, hollow and empty.

It hadn't become so weak; no, It had chosen to abandon itself. It had cast aside its own conviction!

Lynn clenched his teeth.

He grabbed the Colossus's Heart, which had rolled to the ground, and rushed back to It, whose eyes were lifeless. He hoisted It up, staring into those hollow pupils, and ground out through gritted teeth:

"What the hell are you doing?! Are you trying to kill yourself?! Do you think that by shattering your consciousness here, you can just run away from all of this?! Let me tell you! All this does is make you weaker than anyone else out there!"

"I know what you want to do. Are you thinking that by shattering yourself here, you can forget everything, let the Colossus's Brain evolve over a thousand years and give birth to a new consciousness, and let that new you take on this burden and curse for you?!"

"Let me tell you something!"

"You're a deserter! You're weak! You don't even measure up to every single dead Colossus consciousness here! What makes you worthy to be the Colossus's King?!"

Bam—

Lynn gritted his teeth and slammed It heavily onto the ground.

But that dim figure still didn't resist. It remained motionless, Its gaze hollow and withered, as if all vitality had drained away.

Lynn panted heavily, clenching his fists. He knew that It had lost its conviction.

Three thousand years of lurking and effort, shattered in a single moment.

Such a devastating blow was nothing short of ruinous for someone like It, who had bet everything on this charge.

Because It had poured everything into trying to escape.

But that was absolutely, absolutely not a reason to abandon hope!

"Snap out of it! The situation outside is extremely dangerous right now! The Colossus has fallen, and all the consciousnesses you gathered need your leadership and protection! The God of All Machines, the Flesh and Blood Dominator, the Desire Mother Tree—they'll be coming any moment to carve up your body! If you give up now, what about all those subjects who trusted you?!"

Lynn clenched his jaw, charging over to grab It by the shoulders, screaming at the top of his lungs.

But he knew.

There was no time to stay here any longer.

The curse was spreading and devouring this mental space at an accelerated pace, and there was nowhere left to hide. But if he let the curse bind the Colossus's Brain now, with It in its current state, there would be no chance of It pulling itself together again!

"Damn it!"

Lynn gritted his teeth, hoisted It onto his back with all his strength, snatched up the Colossus's Heart, and leaped up, sprinting away from the direction of the curse.

And behind him, high in the sky, that bone-chilling, malevolent darkness was already rumbling in from all directions, like an inescapable, destined fate…

He ran without stopping.

"Don't give up! Don't you dare give up!"

Lynn's teeth were clenched as he sprinted wildly:

"Why can everyone else do it, but you can't?! Big Brother Cyber, the Matriarch, even the Desire Mother Tree and the God of All Machines—they're all fighting to live! Even after being tormented by the curse for countless years, they've still been struggling to escape this hell!"

"But what about you?! What the hell is this about?!"

"Where's the courage you had when you charged into that mad riot of colors?! You were ready to take that step without a second thought, and now you're telling me you can't bear it anymore? That you want to run?!"

"If that's the case, then I should never have stopped you back then! I should have let you and your entire Colossus Civilization be annihilated in those colors, let that be your burial ground—not like this, where all the Colossus's consciousnesses are still counting on you, and you, their King, are the first to turn into a deserter!"

Lynn howled at the top of his lungs, leaping up and crashing through the broken ground.

On his shoulder, those silver pupils stared out, dazed and lost, the pain swirling within them enough to drive anyone who saw it to despair.

It gripped its hands, clenching them tightly.

Letting Lynn carry it, fleeing from the inevitable curse shackles closing in from everywhere.

Three thousand years…

Three thousand years of obsession and pursuit…
