Chapter 1540: Chapter 38: Blitz (21)_3

The officers watched everything before them in shock, following Yegor as they climbed higher.

The mud on the slope forced them to walk carefully to avoid slipping.

Through the wild branches, they could see, down the slope, a unit retreating from the front line passing through the valley like wounded ghosts, continuously moving toward the rear.

A few communication off-road vehicles sped past, their rolling tires splattering mud against the battered shells of the mechas, but didn’t provoke the usual curses from the hot-tempered warriors.

It seemed less like an army and more like a group of dismembered zombies.

"This is..." Peterlov turned to look at the retreating troops.

"It’s the Fourth Group," Yegor said gloomily. "They just retreated from the left wing. I’ve already sent someone to call their regiment commander."

Peterlov glanced at Yegor, quickened his pace, and charged up the hill.

The entire Maple Slope battlefield suddenly appeared before them!

Compared to the temporary command post several kilometers away, the view of the battlefield here was even more vast and majestic.

Just like a pangolin, explosions on Maple Slope rose five to sixty meters high, sprawling across the hill, blocking the sun and the sky. Various sizes of mushroom clouds appeared amidst the explosion’s glow, resembling frozen black pillars.

Countless mechas from both sides clashed back and forth on this fire-ravaged land.

The green and gray steel torrents wedged into each other’s formations. Charging, breaking through, encircling, and dividing... all the military tactics and all the killing methods summarized by the human army were vividly displayed on this yellow-leaved hillside.

In the center, the Suss’s troops attacking the main peak of Maple Slope had apparently just retreated from the slope. As the gray line of Suss Mechas pulled back, the enemies on the hill pressed down hard.

Teams of green mechas that Peterlov had never seen, like sharp daggers, pierced into the chaotic scattered line of Suss Mechas.

They gathered in groups of three to five, charging downhill like knights galloping on horses, shouting as they approached opponents at lightning-fast speed to deliver a deadly blow.

The color drained completely from Peterlov’s face.

His gaze fixed on the mountainside, where several Suss Mechas at the forefront of the scattered line were retreating while firing wildly.

A forward Suss Iron Armor Dragon medium-sized mecha was clearly at full firepower. The energy cannons on its body spewed fire with a speed and rhythm familiar to Peterlov. The energy bullets sealed off all frontal angles. Where the barrage went, dust flew, and the earth crumbled.

Yet, a ghost-like green mecha faced it head-on.

It charged downhill, its hefty body in the air resembling a predatory Lightning Falcon. After repeatedly changing directions, leaping over a large rock and several wreckages on the slope, it slipped through the dense barrage unscathed, and punched into the Iron Armor Dragon’s chest.

As the Iron Armor Dragon, far larger than its opponent, turned into a fireball, more than ten other green mechas on the same horizontal line on both sides simultaneously delivered fists, ion daggers, or flying kicks with iron legs into their respective targets.

The retreating scattered line instantly broke open a large gap.

The sudden glow of fire illuminated the ghostly figures, sending a chilling, sinister sensation down Peterlov’s spine, even amidst the roaring cannons and intense flames.

His hair stood on end suddenly.

And what frightened him more was not just here.

On the left-wing hill, hundreds of green mechas had already completely disrupted the formations of the 2122 division’s 3rd Group.

The entire 3rd Group was split into more than a dozen separate small units fighting independently. The panicked Suss Mecha Warriors could only fire violently without direction.

In this chaotic barrage, the enemy showcased their artful cooperation.

One by one, green Triangle Attack Formations rolled with the barrage of Suss Mechas, like waves, one after another.

Every five steps, the green mechas on the outer edge would retreat into the formation, while those within possessing intact energy shields would replace them to face the barrage from the Suss Armored Forces.

Blue, red, blue, red... the thin light curtain of the energy shield transformed like an aurora in the void, constantly changing. No matter how fierce the firepower of the Suss Armored Group was, it couldn’t destroy it.

Five steps, one fluctuation.

The green mechas’ exquisite steps were like the drumbeats under ancient wizard’s drumsticks, mysterious, natural, flowing, with seamless transitions! Every five steps, their formation would ripple, their mechas silently switching positions.

Their advancing path paused not a bit, while the formation’s periphery was eternally that hopeless blue curtain!

This footwork and cooperation had surpassed Peterlov’s imagination and also exceeded those young officers beside him, much younger and more imaginative than him.

Officers from the Suss 21st Army Group stood on the densely wooded hilltop, dumbfounded, watching the enemy below demonstrating a combat style they had never seen before.

Smooth footwork and cooperation yielded equally smooth slaughter.

The most ordinary Triangle Attack Formation was given new life by them. Each rotation of the Triangle Formation brought several green mechas forward side by side, steadily advancing, with fists, feet, and blades turning Suss Mechas into burning scrap metal!

The left-wing was hell, and the right-wing, likewise, wasn’t paradise.

Peterlov strained to move his eyes.

On the smoke-filled right-wing battlefield, more than two hundred green mechas formed five Triangle Attack Formations, deeply piercing the Suss Armored Group, continuously breaking through into the depth.

These green harbingers of death showed not the slightest mercy.

They dashed past the Suss Mechas, and every brush with them would open a bloodstained gap in the densely packed formation as if sliced by a knife.

With the retreat of the Fourth Group, the entire right-wing was essentially the enemy’s domain. The few Suss Mechas left on the right-wing to block, buying time for the middle and left-wing troops to retreat, were more consuming the enemy’s time for slaughter than resisting!

"General." The report from the guards came from behind.

Peterlov turned around and saw the commander of 2122 division’s Fourth Group, his lips blue, supported by two guards as he walked up the hill, collapsing to the ground.

His gaze moved past the commander, who had fainted due to his severe injuries, to the Army Group Headquarters staff rushing up the slope.

A bad premonition grew stronger with the staffs’ steps.

"Admiral, our flank was suddenly attacked by the enemy, causing heavy losses to the troops. The 2121 division in the center has already retreated. Rear troops have lost contact."

"General, the 2111 division’s 1st Group was fiercely attacked by the enemy main force twenty minutes ago, and amid intense fighting, the position was lost due to enemy circling and surprise attack. The entire group heroically perished. The enemy main force is rapidly passing through First-tier Sky Canyon, approaching 49 Peak."

Peterlov’s body shook violently, and darkness clouded his vision.
