Chapter 1527: Chapter 34: Blitz (17)

Compared with the towering snowy peaks of the Socrates Mountain Range or the Charloks Mountain Range surrounding the basin, or even juxtaposed against the skyscraping Space City with an average height of over a thousand meters, it was merely a dwarf clad all over with trees.

Even if one were to exhaustively consult electronic maps and speculate with numerous electronic boards, no one could have anticipated that in this beautiful star system called the Chuckna Gate, connected to the Southeast Main Channel, the most pivotal and brutal battle of this war would erupt here, in Resk.

At this moment, the western slope of Hill 152 was in complete disarray.

Everywhere you looked, there were fallen trees and craters in the yellow soil left by bomb explosions. The once lush green forest had turned into an unsightly patch of baldness. Dense cannon fire continued to ravage the ground, turning debris and dead leaves over and over.

From the mountaintop trenches, mushroom-like black clouds billowed upwards, white and black smoke rolled and spread out. Thousands of Suss Mecha lined up in five scattered battle lines, desperately looking upward to attack. Energy cannon fire crisscrossed from the mountain top to the base, weaving a gigantic web of light.

"Fire!" On the combat-weary and shattered front lines, a Lieutenant Chuckna fiercely pulled the trigger in front of the Universal Control Stick.

The massive handheld reinforced energy cannon held by the Mechanical Hand at the firing position spun rapidly, and then jerked sharply as hundreds of intertwined light threads formed into an olive-sized energy bullet that shot out. In a flash, it plunged into the Suss Mecha Group down the mountain, exploding into an incandescent white light that was impossible to look at directly.

The white light swept across the land horizontally, as if the surrounding air was ripped and then violently pushed outwards, creating a shockwave that carried dust and sand, forming a visible circle that spread in all directions.

It wasn’t until this moment that a thunderous explosion erupted skyward with the trembling earth.

This shot was exceptionally precise. A Suss Madman Mecha, just appearing from behind a large rock, was directly hit. The nearly thirty tons of steel body was violently thrown into the air by the explosion.

The hard exterior and the attached armor crumbled and shattered like the burnt crust on a millefeuille, disintegrating into several small black dots against the white light. As the faint smoke dispersed, all that was left was a charred skeleton.

With the shot on target, the Lieutenant quickly ducked back down.

Within the deep trench below, Mechas hunched down were running back and forth. Loose dirt, dislodged by the blasts, dusted over them from the sides of the trench.

At the left corner, a Mecha with its leg blown off was having a new mechanical leg installed at the emergency repair station in the trench. Below, several Eighth Generation [Wild Dog] Beast-type Single Soldier Mecha, utilizing their natural advantage of moving more skillfully than Human-shaped Mecha in the trench, were replenishing ammunition to the firing positions.

On the outer trench wall were densely packed firing positions. Every six meters, there lay a Single Soldier Mecha on the slope, firing madly down the mountain. The pounding cannonfire felt like thunder exploding right beside you, relentlessly tormenting people’s nerves.

The Lieutenant took a deep breath, calming his heart rattled by the explosion’s sound. He glanced at the charge time of the energy cannon on the Mechanical Computer.

Fifteen seconds until the next shot.

Although the handheld Mechanical Energy Cannon was immensely powerful, it had the drawback of slow firing speed. Any Mecha bound to this colossal weapon would end up like a plant entwined and drained of nutrients by constricting vines, dedicating eighty percent of its energy and engine resources to combat.

Waiting for the energy cannon to charge in a fierce battle is truly a maddening idea!

The Lieutenant scratched his disheveled brownish-yellow hair fiercely.

His chapped lips silently mouthed prayers, opening and closing quickly, his head bowing down and then lifting with the agonizing wait. He stubbornly stiffened his neck, desperately preventing his eyes from being drawn by the intense sounds of cannon and combat in the center of the position.

Without looking, he also knew. Just two hundred meters from his location at the central position, more than two hundred Bandit Army Mecha were locked in a life-or-death struggle with nearly a hundred Judgers!

Close-quarters combat on the frontline has always been the most brutal part of ground warfare.

In any era, such face-to-face human slaughter is filled with bloodshed, brutality, and the obliteration of humanity and hope.

When the enemy charges the frontlines, attempting to breach the defenses with melee combat, the impact and madness far exceed the horror of a mudslide pouring down from a ten-thousand-meter-high mountaintop.

There is neither cowardice nor bravery. Neither anger nor sorrow.

Both sides are like two groups of beasts completely devoid of rationality and thought, operating solely on primitive instincts to grapple and kill. They attack the opponent with all their might, eyes red with fury, driving forward. They rip and bite each other’s flesh, digging out the opponent’s bleeding heart!

This is the life deprivation between kindred, an erasure of one person’s entire history, existence traces, thought, and body by another.

Whether attacker or defender, after such an icy and fiery collision on the frontline, no more than thirty percent survive!
